at one stage last year I worked 10-12 hours a day for about 9 months, with days off here and there, and I worked part-time. I learned a lot and got a lot done. but it takes it's toll, and I'm still waiting for that burst of energy to get back into it.

I'm still working on that same project (well really it's having a slight break, but my real work these days is pretty full on.) it's still 85% complete and quite a major project if anyone actually remembers what it is.

I don't recommend working that hard on anything

Congrats SSH, that's great to hear, just as you were about to get back into a decent sleeping routine too, I'm sure it's worth it.

I just moved recently which caused the forums to go down for a few days, so now I've got a different view from my house.

This is the view out the front.

It is one of the busiest roads in Sydney, it's the main route north so there are constant trucks, but it only took a couple of nights to get used to it.

I only have neighbours in one direction, and the house isn't extremely close so I can make as much noise as I like, the other neighbours are car dealerships. it's also close to the local pub.

It's on the corner of a side street and literally 5 doors up you get a great view of the city

I live about 25km (15.5 miles) out of the city (by road, not sure as the crow flies) and pretty close to the highest part, it's not a bad view.

I shrunk the image down so it's not as clear but you can even see the Sydney Harbour Bridge in amoungst the trees to the left of the photo.

Speaking of lie detectors, Moe's one kicks arse

"
Eddie: Do you hold a grudge against Montgomery Burns?
Moe: No! (buzz)
Alright, maybe I did, but I didn't shoot him. (ding)
Eddie: Checks out. Okay, sir, you're free to go.
Moe: Good, 'cause I got a hot date tonight. (buzz)
A date. (buzz)
Dinner with a friend. (buzz)
Dinner alone. (buzz)
Watching TV alone. (buzz)
Alright! I'm going to sit at home and ogle the ladies in the Victoria's Secret catalog. (buzz)
Sears catalog. (ding)
Now would you unhook this already, please?! I don't deserve this kind of shabby treatment! (buzz)

Impossible to find a favourite as ther are so many, but here's a good one.

"Mayor Quimby supports revolving-door prisons. Mayor Quimby even released Sideshow Bob, a man twice convicted of attempted murder. Can you trust a man like Mayor Quimby? Vote Sideshow Bob for Mayor."

It's best not to think that far ahead, 10 years ago I really had no idea where I'd be now, and it has gone so fast and not a lot has really changed (although a lot has changed and then changed back, got twisted, bent and fghdskloisd)

and Josh, 28 isn't that old, I still feel young anyway, it's 38 that's old, that's where I'll be in 10 years.

*Well I hope to be at least paying off a house by then, well much sooner than that or I'll be dead before I pay it off, debt forever, Noooooooo.

*do some travelling around the world

*have some kids

Firefox 1.0PR, I've only noticed it lately and I've recently updated to the latest version.

If you refresh the page it fixes it, and seems to keep working for that image until you close the browser and reopen it.

I guess it's a small bug in the latest version, or atleast after 0.8

Interesting, it does seem to be a Firefox thing, I've got cable so it's nothing to do with speed and it doesn't happen in IE or Opera.

I had noticed the smurf, but I just assumed that was the whole image, so I didn't consider it being an error as I haven't used IE in quite a while.

I don't have one either, or really care about gmail, is there any real benefit of having one? a gig of space who cares, I've got a lot more on my hard drives, and I've got emails from a long time on them.

mozilla thunderbird's junk feature is pretty cool too

I might try the casual worker thing, cause my work is classified as casual even though I work 5-6 days a week. (so I won't get paid from work. I think you get some allowance from the jury duty and travelling allowance but I don't think it's that much, I'll have to find that out)

Otherwise I'll just try not to look my best, old shorts  & t-shirt, unshaved for a week.

I'll have to take a few pairs of Homer's glasses.

General Discussion / 'ken Jury Duty
Wed 20/10/2004 09:26:42
I get home from work today and what do I find in my letterbox? cool, a cheque for some dividends from some shares I have, then a Jury Summons.

Has anyone ever been on a jury before?

This is the second time it's happened to me, most people probably go through life without it ever happening, I wish it was the lottery instead (I guess it's more likely if you buy a ticket).

The first time I never even got to go into the court room, the case I was assigned to was over before it started, the person pleaded guilty and the case was dismissed so I got to go home after just sitting around for a few hours.

That time I was unemployed and I was looking forward to at least having a chance to do something.

This time I just don't want the hassle.

You can fill out a form and give some excuse that they can consider, but it is compulsory to attend if they think it's not a good enough excuse. If you don't turn up you can get fined. Work is not an acceptable excuse. (although I'm sure if you were a brain surgeon they would let you off)

It also doesn't necessarily mean you will get to be on the jury, once it's your groups turn, if either party doesn't like the look of you, or doesn't think you're the right type to get their person off (or find them guilty) they can get rid of you, they do this to each person until they have selected the 12 that they both agree with.

It is estimated that this case will go for 3 weeks, so I really hope I don't get selected.

If anyone can think of any ways I can limit my chances of being selected, please tell me, or atleast make up some cool stories.

General Discussion / Re: About hair
Mon 18/10/2004 12:58:10
I can't grow my hair long, it just goes curly and really frizzy, I had longer hair when I was at uni and it looked more like Einstein's hair. I just keep it short these days, but I really don't think about hair much, or any style just to get reactions or fit in with any crowd, or to be different or to be the same.

I used to have what was called an undercut for years when I was at school, eg. shaving the back and sides to a #1 or bald and having a mop on top, it was quite long and covered most of my head, so you couldn't really tell unless I tied it back or if it was wet.

I didn't have a decent covering of facial hair until I was into my 20's, and I can only grow a decent goatie, the sides still aren't that full at 28,  but I'm not as self concious about that sort of thing anymore.

I have no chest hair

I think females look better with long hair, but some are suited to short hair. it is only hair after all.

well technically it's not okay, but technically buying 2nd hand games (software) off ebay isn't either since usually a license is for one computer only.

so technically it's exactly the same issue as abandonware, (buying games off ebay), but it seems more socially acceptable.

I'll keep an eye on ebay for another copy, they have copies all the time, I'll just wait till I win one at a reasonable price, i'm not in any rush. I never seem to find these games on Kazaa, and very rarely use it these days.

Sorry for crashing the thread, it just reminded me of the above, and I have no idea about whether copying it to a DVD works but it sounds an interesting idea.

Speaking of this game, I recently got it off ebay and I got all the way up to disk 6, and it worked for a little bit and when I got to a certain point it kept crashing.

There was a few scratches on the disk but it seemed to work and I could view all the files, I was a bit worried but I had to get up to disk 6 before I could tell. It seemed allright for a while then I found out is was corrupt.

I tried to burn an iso from it and try copying it but it failed.

I didn't pay too much for it, but now I'm going to have to buy another version unless some one wants to send me disk 6.

It's the first bad ebay experience I've had, it's frustrating getting so far and then not being able to finish.

It's a bit different with remakes though, word of mouth spreads quickly and everyone has already played the original, that's how Tierra (agdi) got a following to start with. If they make their own games eventually, they've got a big head start.

And Dave, if it's a good game, it markets itself to an extent, and it gets a boost from the game nuts around here. How else do we find out about Yahtzee's games, and they're played well outside the community.

Also being free usually is a good incentive, but it's a whole different story if you want to sell it. put it this way, even if it was $1, that limits people obtaining it quite substantially.

I also think a lot of people around the world already enjoy your games, so that's also a great start.

With your reputation and the advertising stuff others have mentioned, I'd say you've got a better chance than most of being successful.

Commercially though, it would be tough unless a company offered to publish and promote it, if you wanted to make some serious $$$

Moving from the tropics to Melbourne in December will not be as much of a shock as you think, It'll probably rain less than Townsville and be hotter, just not as humid. YOu get much hotter days down south during summer, none of this 30 something every day, it's usually around that but you get the 40's and 45's every now and then.

When winter comes though, you'll wish you were back up north.

I don't live in Melbourne though, but it's similar in Sydney but even less rain these days.

on a side note, it was 35 in Sydney today and it'll be 37 tomorrow, and as weather goes, that's in the shade, I work outdoors in the sun so it sux.

I now feel sorry for uni students, with the 25% increase in HECS fees that will be introduced.

The fact that the schools that are rich as hell, get more funding than the Government schools.

The fact that Howard is a product of a free education, and now he wants people to be in debt before they have a real job, have to pay a larger percentage of their income to buy a house, and have more kids than they can afford, while he sits overlooking the Harbour in his mansion.

and that's just education, I wont get into the hospital situation.

And yeah, the rich get richer while everyone else gets further behind, that's what I don't get, obviously people think they're richer than they are, or it would be impossible for Howard to keep power, I can't believe people fall for the pathetic scare tactics.

I now just hope his bum chum bush gets booted. otherwise the next few years are going to be quite scarey.
