Just yesterday I tried out this product as an alternative to having to have some dual boot type system.

It seems to be pretty good so far.

For anyone that doesn't know, it let's you run a "virtual" computer from your existing one, as the product name seems to describe.

I installed Win98se, on it, it's capable of running as many operating systems as you like if you have the space (or at least a few).

at the moment I'm Running XP Pro with Service pack 2 RC2, and I can ALT+TAB between XP and Win98se.

It seems to work alright and can run some games that have trouble in XP even with vdmsound, dosbox etc.

The only thing I noticed is it uses a fixed virtual soundcard and video card, which may not be too much of a problem, but can be a problem if you need a Nvidia Gforce or something.

anyway, for most Sierra games it comes in quite handy, and GF as I did end up having problems running that with VDMSound on XP.

Has anyone used this? I'm just using the 45day trial to test it out, I'm just wondering if it's worth the US$129. and If it can screw up your computer or anything (well of course it can as it's made by MS)

All I can say is the 1st Spiderman movie was very thin, what I mean, is that it was like there where 3 people in the movie with a few extras, and not much happened, a few effects that were way out of physical possibility in reality, it was like the laws of physics had changed. but hey it's a movie, and one that's just full of hype

stepping back from the hype it's all pretty sad that it made so much money, that we'll have to go through all the sequels.

I've seen shorts to the new one but I don't think I'll be rushing out to see it, maybe when it's on free to air tv, or happen to witness it on someones dvd, or I just happen to be in a silly mood.

but that's just my opinion, I don't mind action or comics coming to life, but I really think they put too much money into special effects and shitty actors, with an already famous character and expected that everyone would be fooled.

but I guess I can't really judge the 2nd one as I haven't seen it, but nothing is really drawing me to it.

sorry to crap on, I just fealt this movie needed some negative energy to even it out.

As what MrColossal said, It is completely random so there isn't much point to it.

The only way you can really judge is by luckily not hitting any mines and see how far you get.

my record with no mine assistance was 347.7, it is considered a foul if you even hit 1 mine. (this is pot luck too, but the trajectory of the shot is more important)

another comp is to get the lowest score after actually hitting the penguin, I got 26.6

I didn't crack the 1000, but I'll still sleep well tonight, 957.9 was my best

If you wanted to get a lot of Sierra games in one go and have pleanty of money (not long to go on this one)

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8118371956

maybe you like that Lucas fella better

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8118803898

It'll be interesting how much they go for, and I guess shipping would be pretty steep

edit: actually shipping for the Sierra one is free worldwide

To be honest I can't really remember as I've got atleast 1 hint in most.

Before the internet, I remember getting walkthru's from some BBS, and before that, I just had to wait until I got to school to see if anyone had got past the particular part.

dialling the sierra-online hintline internationally was not something I considered as my parents would have killed me.

I've finished a lot more AGS games without walkthru's

I defenately Finished these games without walkthru's (although some were joint efforts with friends)

LSL 3
SQ 3
Hero's Quest - that was my biggest achievement (game wise) at the time I thought
MI 3 & 4
Full Throttle (in one sitting)
Grim Fandango
Broken Sword 2

One's I know I definately cheated (although some I only may have got a few hints)

LSL 1,2,5,6,7
QG 2,3,4
KQ 1,2,3,4,5,6,7
Colonel's Bequest, Dagger of Amon Ra
SQ 1,2,4,5,6
PQ 1,2,3
Sam & Max
Maniac Mansion, DOTT
MI 1,2

ETC...........

At the moment I'm playing Broken Sword 3, and I haven't cheated yet, I'm in the castle

Yay, my games arrived from 'sold-out' I got 3 games, one was free with the offer although you still pay for its postage.

I got Broken Sword 1 & 2, so now I have the full set

and I got Lotus Challenge, which is just a car game, but I think I had an earlier version for the Sega Megadrive.

Anyway, it's interesting that BS 1&2 work fine in XP even without scummvm, and on the box it says BS1 works with win95/98 NOT Me, BS2 works with 95/98 & Me.

But the problem is Lotus challenge says it works with 98/Me/XP but I can't get it to work

It comes up with a message as soon as I click to start it, which says Lotus.exe must close sorry for the inconvenience.

it is a big inconvenience cause it says that evertyime. I've tried re-installing, and changing all the diferent settings in the external config setup for the game.

I'm not sure if the problem is the fact I've upgraded to XP service pack 2 RC2?

It's strange that the only game that says it works with XP is the only one that doesn't

I tried installing it on my other computer with win98se, it loaded up alright with no errors but it doesn't have a compatible graphics card for the game so it doesn't work properly.

I don't know if anyone will give any advice from this particular thread, I just thought I'd bitch about it. Also I doubt anyones even got the game. atleast it was the free one.

It's great how sometimes you can just put in an early bid and end up winning, that's a great find, the only version of SQ3 I own is in the 1-5 collection.

I'd never played SQ6 so I put in a bid for $1 US and won, it cost $6 US for postage, it ended up about $12 AUS with the exchange rate at the time, it would be less than 10 bucks now

Not one of my favourite games, but I still have the cartridge for the C64 version, actually the game just used to piss me off, along with Choplifter

But your version looks pretty cool, for a nostalgia thing-ami-bob, yeah, all it needs are those monks and it will be sweet.

and I never knew they were monks, they were just the guys that came to get you.

I was looking up a game I used to play on the C64 a while ago, 'Wizard of Wor' and found a remake of it if anyone is interested

Pirating software or anything is wrong, but I also think that the potential buyers of particular software doesn't always have to be related to how much pirating is going on.

The whole reason things are pirated is because they are over priced, or some people are addicted to it.

If people can get it cheaper or download it free, they will probably do it for the sake of it, rather than actually needing it, so more pirating goes on for no real reason, but these people are not really potential customers to the creators of the original product anyway.

which throws the stats out, making the whinging companies thinking they are actually losing more money than they really would.

if anything, they'll sell more copies, because their product is reaching more people that normally wouldn't get a chance to experience it.

But hey I'm probably off topic anyway, as I didn't even read the article, cause I'm selectively  illiterate.

Aww, you were here for the second game? Should've told me, I would've looked out for you in the crowd and waved my Maroon-ey awesomeness at you! ^_^

I wasn't at any of the games, I was just in that particular state on each occasion, but I'm actually closer to Brisbane from Sydney, than where I was in QLD (Cairns)

I think Lockyer was paid to kick it straight into Fitlers hands, I hope fitler is now fully retired from rep footy, and Gus Gould can get the hell out of the game too, I didn't notice the cuts on his face, I try my hardest to not look in that direction, it's quite a scarey site.

Well the NSW Blues Finally won the series, and I know it had everything to do with me, here's why.

The first game was in NSW, I was in NSW, NSW won
2nd game was in QLD, I was in QLD, QLD won
Decider was in NSW, I was in NSW, NSW won

so what ever state I was in at the time of the game was the deciding factor, which only counts for this years series

I would have liked to see Fitler go out a loser (and coach Gould), but I'm still glad the Blues won.

It's interesting that over the 20 odd years the series has been going, both teams have won exactly the same amount of games.

Just on a similar topic

I played Broken Sword 2 for the first time a little while ago and I thought it was great, I'd like to get a copy of the First one (I'll have to look on Ebay)

So I bought BS3, I haven't had time to play it yet, I've watched the intro and had a short go (the interface will take some getting used to [damn the laziness of creating cross platform games, surely it's not too hard to create mouse support]) but it looks good so far.

I also bought CSI & CSI:dark motives packaged together, just for the hell of it about 3 months ago and I still haven't even loaded them onto my computer, but if ever I get bored one day and feel like playing something new, at least its there.

But Lazy Z, I'd also definately download "Flight of the Amazon Queen" if you haven't played it, it's also a free one that you can get through the scummvm site and is much better than BASS. (and of course that's just my opinion)
