My job isn't the most exciting (meter reader as mentioned previously) but it keeps me fit and I work in a different area everyday, no chance of getting stuck infront of a computer.

And sometimes the areas can be unbelievable, I googled some photos from the area I'm currently working in. The views are amazing, but I hardly have time to really enjoy them, but areas like this can just make you feel happy by just looking around.

It's hard to tell from these images but it's a very hilly area and some of the water meters are half way up cliffs, so I get to do a bit of rock climbing and bush bashing, brings me back to my childhood, it can be quite dangerous at times and I've worked 12 of the last 13 days, but I get a month off in about a weeks time wooo hoooo

I'm all grown up and still don't know what I want to do but I don't really care at the moment either.

At the moment I'm a Meter Reader for Sydney Water, which means I walk all day searching through peoples gardens for water meters and punch the numbers into a handheld computer.

At the moment I'm working around the Northern Beaches area of sydney which has awesome views of beaches, and houses that are so far beyond imagining the value that it breaks my mind how people can afford them. That's about as close as I'll get to being in this area.

The good thing is I work 2 months on 1 month off in which my month off starts on the 30th May.

so I'm going up to Cairns which is about 2500KM north of my place, to visit my sister and meet my new nephew, and I got cheap tickets to fly there, $96 return which is fucking cheap plus I get free accommodation.

I want to be on a permanent holiday, that's my ideal job (not sitting at home on unemployment but roaming the globe, with endless salary [without having to really work])

I guess I need to win the lottery (I've never bought a ticket but I'm still hoping)

After filming the sequel to "Point Break"  they thought they had something really original so they renamed it "The fast and the furious"

Congrats SSH, that's great to hear :D

I've heard that in Germany they have some different forms of sexual behaviour, Mrs Cartman style, and I think it would be pretty hard to conceive that way, Mmmm, I think they must have been doing it the wrong way.

They must have been very sheltered people without much contact with the outside world, or TV, cause surely you'd know these things by your teens let alone 30's, I don't even remember learning this stuff as I've known about it as long as I remember and before I even knew what it meant. I guess it's a gradual learning process that eventually, the pieces fit together.

I guess this is one of those very rare cases, cause surely animal instinct would kick in, or just curiosity of different body parts (I guess they probably never saw each other naked)

It seems strange that they figured out how to go to a fertility clinic, before they even knew how to conceive, makes it seem even more like a bullshit story.

Edit: ok, they were sent to a fertility clinic, but still it's a pretty sad story, I sure hope they educate their own kids better (or maybe the reason was, they weren't meant to conceive but the curiosity of others have now caused a disruption to the natural phenomenon of the situation and the offspring will be the downfall of society, the rebirth of .........)

Hey Sasha,

Good to hear from you again, I wondered where you'd gone.
congrats on the boyfriend

I saw a band a little while ago with a chick lead singer that could do the growling vocals, it was quite freaky that it was coming from a female, but she did it well if you like that stuff. They're called Tourettes, you can check out their site if you like http://www.tourettes.com.au/main/

Thanks Junclgmtketc,

My Dad leant me a 10GB drive as well so I have a lucky 13GB to back stuff up on which should be enough for all the stuff I want, which saves screwing around with other backups,

and don't worry I've got pleanty of backed up sources for my essential projects, If I lost all of them at the same time, I'd say it was my lucky day.

I know that XP installs over 2000 pretty well as that's how I'm using this computer right now.

I'll post back when I have it all setup, which will probably be within next week, to see how it all works, and maybe even explain what I did, If that helps anyone else that wants to try it.

Whenever you want to have two versions of windows, it's always better to install the oldest one first. Trust me on this.

I don't really remember the specifics, but I had Win98, and then installed XP Pro on a different partition. When installing XP, I chose to keep my old OS (that would be 98), and then XP created its own boot menu, allowing me to choose between 98 and XP.

Doesnt' Win2000 use NTFS anyway?

It might, but I sort of skipped from 98 to XP but I have 2000 professional and an XP upgrade. I never used 2000 so I'm not up to date with file systems.

So does this sound like the best way.

a) Install 98 on the 40GB HD

b) then insert the 2000 CD, and choose to install it on the 120GB HD not update over 98

c) then it should automatically have an option on which to boot?

d) then boot up 2000 and install XP over it

e) I also only have an upgrade to 98 SE from 98 so I guess I should do that at some stage too (probably between a & b)

damn this getting all these things in bits and pieces, but once it's all installed, it should be sweet (hopefully)

thanks for the info LazyZ

Edit: my only Dilemma now is that I want to transfer some stuff from the 40GB to the 120GB, I'm pretty good with backing stuff up but I only have 3GB to back stuff up on and anyway, I'm sure I can work out some way,

1) like first copying what I want to the 120 drive,

2) then format the 40 drive and install 98 etc

3) then copy back to the 40GB from the 120

4) then format the 120 and go from there

5) of course I have my important AGS projects backed up in various places as that's the most important stuff I can't afford to lose.

I was going to keep the drive I have at the moment as a back up for my files etc, at the moment I have a 3GB drive I plug in through the firewire port, I was going to use the 40GB I have now for that function and keeping the 3GB as a second backup (I back up to another computer and CD's aswell)

If I keep them both as seperate internal drives and install win98 SE on the 40GB & XP Professional on the 120GB, how do I choose which one to boot?

Would I go into the bios and choose which drive I want to boot from, or is there another method.

Also I can only upgrade from win2000 to XP, cause it's an upgrade not a self bootable copy.

and I wasn't aware of this NTFS, I always thought it still used FAT32 (if I've upgraded from 2000 to XP would it still be FAT32?)

I guess I can still use the drive with 98 on it to back up my AGS and other important things, I mainly want to have 98 so I can play some older games and use some functions that XP wont allow (and I can play most of them on XP with all sorts of progs Like VMDsound, Dosbox, ScummVM etc, but there are still a few that cant work properly, even if they load and work for a while [others like SQ6 have no chance with XP])

Thanks for the ideas guys, and I probably won't need to partition anymore, but I might just for the Defrag, and Full Scandisk time. I could always devote a partition to everything to do with AGS.

Thanks for the info Toefur,

so does it matter what OS is installed first? as you say 98 first, and Boyd recommended installing XP first.

I'm guessing that if you install XP first, it musn't allow you to install an older version? is that the reason?

This is the drive I'm getting

Maxtor 120GB 7200 RPM DiamondMax® Plus 9 SATA HD

I've never used a HD that doesn't use the IDE slot, but I'm sure that won't make any difference (except better performance)

should you partition the drive to certain sizes before you even start to install an operating system? I've done it before using FDisk, but I'm usually not to fond of partitions but if I ever want to do a defrag, fucked if I'm gonna wait for it to finish a 120GB drive.

so how big should the partitions be for each operating system? I'll probably divide the rest in half to have seperate drives for things in each system.

or do I just have 2 partitions and the OS's just sit in one each with the rest of the space available for whatever else?

I'm just planning ahead at the moment as I haven't got the drive yet.

EDIT:
I just had another thought, I'm not sure if the motherboard I have is compatible with win98, It's fairly modern with built-in stuff like sound card and other features. It may be possible, I guess I can only try, I can experiment with the new HD & if anything goes wrong I guess I can just format and start over (unless I can do some damage by trying to install 98, but I doubt it)

I'm just about to get a new 120GB HD and I want to install Win98 SE & XP so I can choose which one I want to boot at startup.

I remember about 5 years ago I had Win 98 & some version of Linux, and I sort of remember how I did it.

I'm not sure if this is the order I did this in,  and that's where I'll need some help and some suggestions of some programs to do it.

1) I had Win98 installed and I ran a program called "Partition Magic"

2) I then installed Linux on the new partition (not sure of the size)

3) I then ran a program called "Boot Magic" which gave me the option to choose between win98 & Linux

Now it's quite possible that you run the Boot Magic first, but I don't think so

Now I'm sure I've heard of some people doing something like this with win98 SE & XP, so I hope it can be done.

Now Also can you access files from the hard drive using either of the operating systems?

It gets me a bit confused, just for example, just say you install a program while in XP, and then you try to run it while in 98, files get stored in diferent places in both windows versions, therefore you could run into problems.

Are there any good programs out there to do this?

As I mentioned, "Partition Magic" & "Boot Magic" the versions I have are probably really outdated, I guess they still exist, I'll have to get out google, but are there any that people have used and can recommend some good programs (I have no idea if they are free or you have to buy them but any suggestions are fine)

I hope someone comes through for me, thanks for reading

Just had to bring this back as I saw the "Mad Caddies" last night all the way from Santa Barbara.

I've seen them before but they are an awsome band to see live, and they have only been here twice I think, but I think they're moving out here, If I heard correctly (unless he was joking) but I think he was serious.

here's their site if anyone is interested.
http://www.madcaddies.com/

Earlier in this thread I mentioned an awesome band "The Fireballs" who no longer exist, well the other week I saw this band "Sinshifters" which contains the Drummer/singer & the Double Bassist, They're very similar so after 8 years in the wilderness they're back. They're like a heavy psychobilly band, quite original really

http://www.sinshifters.com/txt/default.htm

One of the supports last night were an awesome ska band from the Gold Coast, up near Brisbane, called "Dr Octopus" they had a sexy lead singer chick too

http://www.dr-octopus.com/

I'd suggest checking out these sites if you like ska/punk/jazz/blues/reggae/piratety goodness

I'm going to see the Mad Caddies again today, say happy mothers day to my mum for me, Cheers.

KQ2VGA aka RPGcreator

The kickme ones where he claimed he wrote that song or played guitar with that dude, I can't remember his name.

I wonder if RPG has made any progress on his games, I'm still waiting for some screenies, I guess he'll come out of the woodwork to ruin the QG2VGA threads.

I don't know if LSD being made legal is such a good idea, but I wouldn't stand against it, but I wouldn't go out of my way to use it. And yes it does unlock parts of the mind not usually used, but they're probably not used for good reason (or just subconcious reasons) Also the possibility of flashbacks is concerning.

Ecstacy is interesting as it was onced used (or developed I'm not really sure) in Germany in World War I or II for soldiers suffering depression, it was originally thought of and trialed as an anti-depressant. It was forgotten about for years and made a comeback in the 70's or 80's I think.

Abuse of any substance prescribed or not isn't good for your body.

I think the most interesting thing is how much study is done on Wine, red wine especially. They always go on about how you should have a glass everyday, and come up with new benefits from it all the time.

Now seriously, This is almost propaganda from wealthy vineyards to get you to drink their wines, and also it's an upperclass thing to do, drink red wine. All the Doctors are recommending this for these reasons.

a) they are alcoholics (in denial)
b) they need more ways each day to rationalise their drinking problems.
c) they need more friends to drink with.
d) they need to increase the share prices of their vineyards
e) have something to talk about

Now why don't they just eat grapes to get all the goodies from them, I'll tell you why, cause grapes aren't addictive enough without the added alcohol.

If they devoted enough study to other drugs in the same way, they'd all be legal cause they do all have benefits in some way or another.

eg. smoking pot believe it or not can be used to stop asthma (not a cure) but it opens up the airways in the lungs instantly and can save a life if they don't have their medication handy.

that's just one little example but there are many others with all sorts of illegal drugs. but of course there are bad side effects as well, as with legal and prescribed drugs (the liver and heart seem to come off worse with most of them)

I don't think an installer is necessary but If you think an installer makes a larger file size than a zip, rar or ace, then you haven't done your research.

I just tried an example with ags, the current beta version is 3.49MB

and using the mentioned Innosetup it compresses to 3.13MB

not that much difference, but for larger files it makes more difference.

I think it should stay as a zip, I'm just clearing up some peoples misconceptions.

But yes, I too prefer knowing exactly what files and where I want them, rather than creating unwanted menus etc.

I can't think of any witty car messages I've seen lately but what pisses me off is people that get really bad wanky personalised number plates.

One I saw was on some try hards car, the sad thing is he probably thought he was living this life for real.

RU34SX

and one of my friends (that's a dickhead) tried to get this numberplate but it wasn't allowed.
