This comp seems like a pretty good idea, I can't believe it hasn't been around for ages.

here's a very small one (10k) not too inventive, but works well for when you score points in a game, get hit on the head, or whatever else you feel, quite a versitile sound.points

General Discussion / Re:Free DVD Decoder?

Thanks guys, it works fine in Media Player Classic, not that I really need to watch DVD's on my computer when I can watch them on a TV with with My Sony Digital Cinema Sound System, but I just wanted to see if it worked.

I might check out the trial of Power DVD, but I'm not really sure why I'd need it. I'll probably also try Maximus DVD to see what It's like.

& strazer, that link you gave is down, so I'll try it later

Thanks again

General Discussion / Free DVD Decoder?
Sat 13/03/2004 09:07:06
I got a DVD RW drive the other day, and I just asumed you could play DVD's through WMP, but I found out you need a DVD Decoder for that to happen, I also noticed you can buy it through Microsoft.

What I want to know is, are there any good reliable FREE DVD Decoders out there, I've searched Google but I'm not sure what to trust.

Are there any Free media players that come with DVD Decoders?

I got Nero burning software with the DVD RW, but no decoder.

I'm sure they must be out there.

I'd just like to offer my condolences to all the people effected by this terrible event, It's a shame that things like this still happen in this day and age, but I guess it's almost just expected that these things will happen. (where and when is just a mystery)

Just on some strange statistical note, I heard this occurred 911 days after 9/11, I haven't bothered to count or even care if there is any link or if it is true, It's just a horific tragedy.

I haven't seen the news or anything for the last few days so I kinda missed it all, but I did hear people in the pub talking about it, I wasn't sure if I was just hearing things, obviously not.

I hope as many of the injured can resume normal lives, that's about the best we can all hope for at this stage.

wintermute74, I appreciate your comments,

As far as ISE, IZE, I'm not sure if you're aware, but I've been making it with screens flipped horizontally (mainly just because I thought one day, "wonder what a game looks like opposite") and It just changes your perspective of the game slightly. And along those lines, I've change some spelling and a few other subtle things, (and quite specifically) to the way I prefer rather than the normally just accepted American way (with no offence intended to any Americans, or for that matter anyone)

As far as the Death scenes go, they do actually still exist and have all the animations dialog etc, the only difference is..... (you'll just have to wait)

"Walking deads", well as far as I'm concerned, that's one improvement I've made (although there are only 2 in the original [although a couple are within a specific one] There is also an extra cutscene because of one, (if you make that mistake)

To be completely honest, I'm not really making this for any other reason than it was one of the first Sierra games I ever played, when it was released in 1989, I was age 13 in year 8 at high school, SQ3 is another around that time. But my point being, this is just a game I started to do a few scenes, then decided to complete.

The ways I've done things is all experimental, but still keeping it as close as possible to the original. It's an experimaent to see if I can translate an SCI game with text parser into AGS.

I'm not bothered by comments or criticisms about the game play, it's more about the bugs.

It's more to get my programming skills in AGS to a standard where I can feel confident to make my own original game with less hassels.

It's quite selfish, but I've done it all for myself, not really regarding any outside thoughts, releasing it will only be a privilege to the few who bother to download it.

I'm not looking for any type of status after releasing, I'll just feel I completed a challenge I gave myself, and nothing more.

And I'd be very happy for you to Beta test when I've completed, you can either leave your email here or send it to me via an Instant Message and I'll get back to you at the appropriate time.

Thanks

Just out of interest, I mentioned 3 bugs no one else mentioned in my hidden text, not sure if you got them, although I guess the picture must have stood out, any way just helping out.

It'll tell you when you've hit the right spot, so don't try for 2 until you know you've hit 1

I loved it Darth, excellent at all levels.

Spoiler

I liked the fact that there was a timer going, on my first attempt I took so long exploring the house, that the earth kept exploding before I could take off. But once I knew what to get, It was easy to restart and do it quicker. - great idea.

As far as bugs go, it was pretty good although I did find a couple, at the end, If you interact with the chair up the top of the spaceship while standing at the level below it, It gives you points (or you get the points sound) at the same time it says "climb up there first"

There was also a baseline issue downstairs in the house as below

I noticed that I couldn't get my score cause the end was all blocking, so
I just went and tested this for the points, I got 290/300 but I found that out after it went back to the start screen. Then I tested whether the points carried over if you then start again, and I was at the start with 290 pts

Ah, I know the 10 pts I missed, the paper towel, I got it the first time, but when I started over to be quicker I forgot it.

Thanks for this wondereful game, and I look forward to some more chapters, the story seems very interesting.

Congrats on completion

Try

character[NPC].x=100;
character[NPC].y=100;

change the coordinates to what you like, that should be what you're looking for

I'll get back to you...

Geez, Floods Hot weather, cold weather, everythings been happening lately.

Today was bloody hot, the hottest day in Sydney since December and it' was 0.7 degrees C from the hottest day in March (in recorded history).

It was Still 39 C at 6pm (103 F)

It's odd, there's always really hot days, just before and after Summer, I suppose it's not really that strange.

An interesting fact, as the Earth moves around the Sun in an oliptical orbit, the Earth is closest to the sun in the sothern Hemisphere's summer, The Northern Hemisphere's Summer is at the earth's furthest point from the sun.

Therefore the S.Hem's Summers are generally more intense and the Winters are also more intense, but It's more noticeable the further away from the equator you are.

It's 8.30pm now and it's still bloody hot.

As for the fucking weather, I was pissed off on Saturday, cause it rained and Cricket was called off, so I didn't get to play the very last week of my season, therefore I have to wait until September to play again.

rain, and we're still in the same drought as we have been for the last few years, why didn't it just rain today instead.

The thing that was most annoying was the rain was predicted but it only started at 1pm when cricket's supposed to start and stopped after 6pm when it finishes, perfect fugging timing.

At least we made up for it in the Pub

Edit: A cool change just came through, It's really pleasant outside now (1:30am) it's still 27 inside (80 F) probably 3 or 4 degrees cooler outside

Klaus, I just checked out your site with a few browsers, IE, MyIE2, Mozilla Firefox and Opera.

The only one that really screws it up was Opera, The Iframes were really small, making the whole page really short, they didn't adjust sizes like the other browsers.

I use Opera a lot so that's why I noticed that particular fault with Iframes.

I've done pleanty of web design myself and I know it's hard to get everything to work on every system, I do like using percentages rather than set widths as you've done, but sometimes certain little things don't translate well across browsers.

Just on the Iframes issue, Is it necessary?, I know It probably makes the outside design static and it just scrolls in the little bits, but you still have to scroll anyway.

I think I'm just picky about these things but I like to be able to see a bit more text rather than it being in a little box without being able to make it bigger.

Also if you use a mouse wheel you have to put the mouse in the box to scroll, rather than just scrolling anywhere (that's also picky but how I prefer to browse)

It's still a good layout (except the banner but I know it's just an example)

anyway, that's just my opinion

I don't think AGDI have proven it possible, well not yet, they've gotten popular by recreating something that has already made millionaires, but it will only be proven if they create something original and make a profit.

although I don't think that's what they're about, If they eventually create their own original projects, they will probably still be free (or I hope anyway) The other reason it's popular is because it is FREE (although obvious reasons why they can't sell their products)

If they did do a commercial game, they would do OK, but they would only sell to a small fraction of the equivalent of how many people d/l their remakes. But they definately have an advantage over most if they decide to go commercial.

As far as sick days go, I never get sick, what, you mean you pretend to be sick to get a day off work/school, that's just immoral, I'd never do that.

I work part time/casual/contract anyway so I don't need sick days, Just work days here and there, I get enough days off not to worry about them, although I don't get payed for my days off.

but I use my days off to watch movies, buy dvd's, play Adventure games, make adventure games, but I also do some of these things on the days I work too.

Cool Squinky, Finished it, loved it & now I can find out what happens in 3, oh, I already played that one.

Graphics, humor, actually the humor was the best bit, puzzles ran very smoothly, all in all entertainingly excellente

Spoiler
I loved making the sausage, top notch ingredients, and what happens to that dude from fry1 with the help of your neighbour is hilarious, the 2nd cutscene made it even better (brilliant cause I'd forgotten about him)

can you go into that other guild building on the left of map? cause it said only if I had to, and I didn't need to

thanks for finishing it, I really appreciate it, and congrats

Just saw Harvie Krumpet, It was entertaining, but the story I thought was a bit thin, had it's moments, I'm sure there was a lot of work going into it as it was animated, but I wasn't as impressed as I was led to believe.

I suppose a whole life story in 20 mins has to be thin. Had a few funny bits, but it just felt way too short. It just felt like it was at the end the whole way with the pace of the life.

I just felt like it was getting started when it ended, (and I knew it had to unless they went into the after life)

The characters where very similar looking to the Simpsons, although made of plasticine or something like that. not too original.

I'm just wondering what it beat to get an oscar, I guess I can look that up, but I'll probably never get a chance to see them anyway.

On the other hand being a short film, I can see why it could win, being a film that had a complete story from birth to death, simple, not too offensive, not too ground breaking (but seemingly ground breaking to Academy types) sweet story with pity being a drawcard also.

still worth the watch

I thought I was seeing things, then I made sure it didn't say Fry3, then I checked the date to see if it was April 1st.

So unless I'm in a Lucid Dream, and I've created this reality in my mind, I think this might actually be it.

well it's downloaded, so time to unzip and ........

I like Darth's New one, although I did like the green dots instead of just standard like links, but that's not too important.

I also Think that having Iframes can get quite annoying and also may not be compatible on some browsers. That detracts a bit from Klaus's.

I don't mind either way as they're both great, but Darth's new one for me

It's working now, I tried logging onto some public hubs and they worked fine.

Then I tried again and there were only 2 users & I couldn't log onto them, then finally another user came by, and it worked.

I guess it only works for some users.

Still only 6KB/sec d/l, but at least it works.

edit:
Yeah, TK, I think you're right, I had changed from "active" to "passive" as well
#559
Strange, it still times out all the time.

I have Zone alarm, but It still doesn't work if I turn it off (and I also allowed DC++ to use the internet)

Is there something in the settings you have to adjust, cause all I did was put a Nick in & connect to the server: 213.93.124.148

I see names on the right hand side with other info eg. How much the others are sharing. If I double click it , it says connecting & eventually timed out.

Is there a certain amount of data you have to share first or something, cause I'm sharing about 89MB, and I see others are sharing eg. 136GB (which is more than 3 times the size of my HD)

has anyone got any good stuff through this, and how fast is it (As fast as the 2 peoples connections?)
#560
I've never used this before, but I just tried it , I got logged into the chanel and all that, there were a couple of users there, but I couldn't see any of their files.

Is there a certain way to see files, I right clicked on the users and clicked 'get file list' it then says connecting, but always times out.

I'll try again later, but first, am I doing something wrong?
