I've updated the main post

I've made a video trailer:
1 min 47 secs
DivX 5.1.1 codec required to view it: http://www.divx.com/divx/
(be careful though, you don't want the GAINbundle version it contains spyware, you can still download the codecs free with no spyware, you want DivX, not DivX pro [unless you are prepared to buy it])

There's a 320 by 240 version of the trailer (1.5MB)
And a 640 by 480 version (2.2MB)

I can't hotlink so you can get it here:

http://members.lycos.co.uk/timosity/trailer.html

(note: there's adult themes and situations in the trailer, so sorry kids, you're gonna have to wait till your parents go to bed. It probably also has a few spoilers)

Why is Africa left off the AGS map?
Because Chris Jones is a white supremacist.  AGS originally stood for African Genocide Society.  Or, it could be that we've got no African AGSers.

Hehe.

I've mentioned this a few times before (about the map) and no one really noticed it, so I think we're being falsely lead by this "AGS" cult into believing it's about the adventure games.

I'm not sure If any Africans have been members on the board in the past, I'm sure they have, but I noticed someones profile the other day and they were from South Africa, can't remember who but it means the map is continentalist.

I think it would be cool to have Africa on the map, just to see if anyone puts a little flag there (and not just someone being silly)

It seems a bit odd to leave out a whole continent, and a bit rude, it could be an honest mistake, or maybe Chris Jones IS the head of the African Genocide Society. Yak, I think you're on to something, I'll see if he notices my new sig, that way we'll know for sure.

After thinking about this, It is normal for anyone from an American continent to consider themselves American, but obviously when communicating internationally, being more specific can help in locating where you are from. (if that is the intended outcome)

Yeah, Oceania is the collective term used to indicate a group of islands where Australia is the main piece of land. Even Tasmanians consider themselves Australian. It also includes countries like Tonga, Fiji, Samoa, Papua New Guinie and Sweden, The continents name is Australia.

A New Zealander would kill you if you called them Australian (unless you're name's Russel Crow)

What about other parts of the world, Is Scandanavia part of Europe? Is the UK part of Europe? do people like to be called European or the country they live in? or do they really care? Is it Holland or The Netherlands (and why are they also Dutch)??

What about Brittain, and the Uk? people just call them that cause they don't know which counties they are.

Is Russia part of Europe or Asia? Do Indians call themselves Asian? Is the Middle East part of Asia? Why is Africa left off the AGS map?

Do Dolphins consider themselves Mammals?

And Las, you crack me up with your choices of words, for the sake of showing off artistic ablility without actually saying much.

Also, You American's crack me up, yes, you know the one's you are (those American ones, from you know, America, which one, yeah that one.)

That was a really neat movie. But is it actually based on a real game? I thought it was just a fake game

you could well be right, I've never seen the game, but it could be an old atari game or based on a similar one.

It's funny cause I remember there were also action figures (or toy soldier type) in the movie  [there may have even been a D&D like game in there], and the movie was also a live version of the game in a kids fantasy sort of way, so it would have been a good opportunity to pimp a game and action figures along with the movie.

I don't know, I think an American that lived in that era might have a better idea.

Just on gambling, "Black Jack" as far as odds in your favour is the only smart game to play, except you're probably still smarter to save your money.

I hate it when people think they can beat the casino, eventually you will always lose (unless you know some tricks, but if you get too good you will get kicked out. They consider clever people cheaters yet they cheat everyone. Best to either own a casino or stay the hell out [unless you just go once for a bit of fun at little cost])

but some dickheads think they'll just win, and brag that they always do, (those people just don't mention when they lose big time)

The heading of this topic comes up a lot in real life and causes arguments between friends and family that can multiply into serious things like divorce. If only people could sometimes admit when they're wrong.

If you mean importing your own character over the "Roger" sprites, all you have to do is right click on the sprite in the "sprite manager" and in the menu "import over sprite".

or you could just import your characters sprites in the "sprite manager" and create a new view and choose those sprites in the view. Then create a new character and set the character to that view.

It's all pretty simple once you've done it once, if you have any more problems try looking at the "Setting up the game" part in the manual.

If you still have any questions just ask.

You can check out this thread for some suggestions

http://www.agsforums.com/yabb/index.php?board=8;action=display;threadid=7920

how big are the files? do you mean a 20MB rar file or 20 rar files which you don't mention any size.

most of the sites listed may have file size restrictions even if they allow 50 or more MB, they may only let you have 1 or 2 MB files maximum to download.

most of these sites will have ads on them and if they don't they will be really slow or not be accessable in some countries.

I know one that has 50MB of space and no file size limit (well, less than 50MB), decent d/l speed, PHP/MySQL.
It does have ads, and you can't link straight to your file from another site (hotlinking)
http://www.tripod.lycos.co.uk/

When it comes to free servers there is always some catch no matter how good it sounds, your best bet if you can't find one with the links I've provided, is to do a search on Google.

personally I don't really like custom titles (although CJ's & mitteneers are fine) but it also doesn't bother me if someone has a title.

I'm just not really one for labels

but if you like

Somehow methinks he's sitting back in his chair, laughing at us because we've been going on and on about a stupid little thing he started..

he may well be, or he has no clue or couldn't care a less, whichever it is, I'll sleep well tonight & yes we probably should stop posting cause I don't think he's coming back (once he finds AGAST)

note: I think he found it cause the AGAST site is gone, does anyone have a new link to it????????????

Welcome back Phil,

I've just watched the sheep flock to your threads, it's actually quite impressive that you've made a mark that you probably don't even realise. You have only made 10 posts, (only the 1 in this thread [& it's already on page 2]) not offensive, maybe just a bit ignorant (refering to past threads), but it seems you've been researching.

You have an advantage already if you complete a game, if you're wise it will all work out, as long as you remember the silly buggers that made you famous, and ignore the other silly buggers digging deeper holes for themselves (probably the same ones).

in conclusion, let's play silly buggers

Good luck

with RC2 in full screen mode it does still dissappear,
but in windowed mode it doesn't but it sometimes gets sent to the back window (or minimized, not sure technically) and the in the taskbar AGS is flashing. I only tested this a few times. [But I never tested windowed mode in RC1, I'll check that out later]

Hmm, were you still using SP1 when you tried this? Very strange.

Yep, I was using SP1

When i unzip, i get thing long funny error.

check the size of the file, it should be about 740kb, if not just try d/l again
#696
Yep the d/l works now

I d/l it before and I'll tell you what I think when I play it.

Edit: I just played it, very simple but it made me laugh, cool sound effects. There were a few little things I noticed, you could stand behind the doors in the coridoor & when you go back in the room the door opens but you are already inside. also the alignment of the characters sprites are a bit out in the walk cycle.

A good effort

I got 75 out of 77

EDIT: The download link is broken...

sorry, fixed now

I don't know what was happening before, but the link you gave to the site works, but what Mennuz said was right about the spelling on the link being wrong on your site therefore you have to copy and paste the link into the browser and remove the "z"

Unless you posted this before actually updating your site, the link is still wrong, and I deleted my cache just to make sure.

I tried it again today and it crashes during this period when ESC is pressed
(note: This is with sound card I thought worked fine)
Here's the code from the room: (note I used first time player enters screen, and it's the only time this room is used)

 // script for room: First time player enters screen
StopMusic();
SetMusicRepeat(0);

StartCutscene(1);
Wait(120);

SetObjectView(2,93);
AnimateObject(2,3,2,0);
while (IsObjectAnimating(2)==1) Wait(1);

I thought it might just have been during the "wait" but I tried starting the cutscene after the wait and it still crashed, but it seems to work fine after the first animation, even though there is a music change in the next few lines.

SetCharacterBaseline(STA,110);
SetCharacterBaseline(CHD,111);
MoveCharacterDirect(STA,156,123);
MoveCharacterDirect(CHD,156,100);
while (character[CHD].walking) Wait(1);

PlayMusic(12);
Wait(80);

If I press ESC in that last little part It doesn't crash. It still may have something to do with the playmusic but it's just strange.

Edit: if I comment out that PlayMusic(12); it doesn't crash

I guess I'll just assume for now that it's something to do with my computer, if it works on other peoples, that's more important. but I'll make a point during beta testing for people to test skipping the cutscenes.

What about movies based on people playing games?  (e.g. The Wizard)

One of my favourite movies when I was a kid was "Cloak & Dagger" I have never played the game, but I would have watched the movie at least 20 times. It had that kid from ET in it (Henry Thomas).

But as for the topic in general as people have said, they usually suck cause they have to be rushed out. But I have rarely played any of them.

In Sydney they usually tell you to get your feet off the seat, but I know of people that have been fined for it, I guess it depends on the guards mood at the time. There are signs telling you not to do things, there is even a sign that says "Smoking of any Substance Prohibited" I thought just saying smoking would cover any substance, but I guess some kids smoking bongs must have argued that the sign didn't say they couldn't. It sucks, all you can do on a train now is snort coke & inject heroin, well it passes the time.

As for the lines up in Newcastle, I don't think I ever paid for a ticket and never got caught.

I usually drive places or get a lift anyway.
