I also loved John Safran's Music Jamboree -- did you see that too, Timmy?

No, I didn't see that, I haven't seen much of John Safran since 'Race around the world' where he showed how to break into Disney Land without a ticket, atleast I think that was him, He had some clip a few years ago, but haven't seen any of his recent work (that I know he was involved with)

What's with Aussie sitcoms, they're pretty few and far between, and usually pretty crap, I can't remember the last successful one, Hey Dad was ok. I think what it takes for Aussies to actually like stuff is for it to be popular overseas first. Eg. Russell Crow (Even though he's from NZ) including his fucked up band, Steve Irwin. It's all pretty sad really.

I doubt many Aussie shows are played on free to air TV overseas, especially in America, there's a few crap ones that get played in the UK like 'Neighbours' & 'Home & Away' They're more popular there than here, which probably keeps them going. You hear of shows being exported but never hear about if they're successful.

There's probably a bit of sport shown on Fox, and a couple of other networks but probably not much and at strange times. England would get Cricket, Union & League on pay tv, probably Sky or something.

There's not as much TV of anysort made anywhere compared to America, I can't believe there are actors out of work over there, they're just not trying hard enough.
That's why there's heaps of crappy shows, just too many with a few good ones hidden in amongst them.

Does anyone get any Aussie shows?
Has "The Secret Life of Us" made it to the UK yet?

Edit: There was one cool (extreemely bad but cool) soap/drama/comedy? a few years back called "Pacific Drive" It was an absolute classic, it was sort of like Melrose place but more sex & set on the Gold Coast QLD, Here's a few examples of character from it:

A Canadian & Kiwi who were both Male prostitutes,
One  successful business women slut who slept her way through everything
A real estate guy who was a sex addict which came from an affair he had with his step mother at 14
A Lesbian that was Married to the Canadian prostitute
A couple of insane people & plots that were so bad, it was the funniest show on TV.
It was played overseas, and was more popular somewhere in Europe but it was axed after a year or so.

Happy new year Everyone,

What did everyone do for New Years? (or have planned)
I had a quiet one with my sister and a few friends, not many drinks, a bit of music, fairly layed back compared to the average new year, and I'm actually home at 1:40am.

Hope it's a good year for everyone, that last one went so fast.

Just a trivial point, you know how each year of your life seems to go faster, I've had a theory for a while about that, as you get older 1 year is a smaller percentage of your life, eg. when you're 5, 1 year is a fifth of your whole life, if you reach 80, it's one 80th of your life, therefore it seems like less time even though each year is pretty much the same length.

Enjoy your celebrations!!

Most people do it but maybe it should be required to edit your MAIN post to mention there is a demo there, If you don't, It won't be on the AGS awards list, Now that would make it a piece of cake for you.

I still don't think a Demo should be required, it leaves more suspense, but I guess the impatient are most people. I'm not saying people shouldn't release demos, cause I love them too, just not a requuirement.

Yeah, I've seen it, I can laugh at it, but I don't really like the characters much. My parents watch it, but that's only cause the ABC is the only station they watch. Glen Robbins spoils it for me a bit cause his charcters in general suck, although he pulls them off well, I just can't stand him, I think it's psychological since Uncle Arthur. If I watched it more I would probably enjoy it and grow to like Kath and Kim, I do like the style of the typical dry aussie humor, but it doesn't draw me in enough.

I did enjoy CNNNN

I don't know about having a demo as a requirement is a good Idea, as some people might not want to release a demo.

I agree that it does get a bit crazy in the productions forum at some stages, though other times it's fairly quiet.

I have a game somewhere back on that list that has been constantly worked on for the last 10 months and is probably over 80% complete, I didn't post it until I was passed 50% when I wanted some beta testing. I'm not releasing a demo, if people wanted to play it they could have signed up for beta testing. But most people don't do it this way cause they need people to know they're not being unproductive, but it backfires on them when they become unproductive.

I've kept it pretty low key as I don't really want a huge following, just a few people that drop by here playing it.

I know I'll finish it, hopefully early next year (if I'm still alive), but yeah, I know a lot of people come flying in here all keen and put up a couple of sceenies and think they will make the worlds greatest game, then when they realise how much work is involved to fit in amongst their lives, they sort of just dissappear.

Oh well, I think people will still keep doing this if the rules are changed or not.

Sorry to crap on, but I do agree with you Squinky, except about the demo thingy.

maybe just stricter rules, eg. game must be at least 50% complete before announcing it. I think that would bring the forum to a bit of a hault. And the games that were there would more likely get finished.

People are just too impatient, and it seems the more patient the person is the more they get done. There's a clue for everyone, It takes time to make a game, You don't need everyone to know about it every step of the way.

Ah that's enough crapping on.

The game is Awesome Duzz, I love the whole interface, the graphics, animations and music are great. The Anger Meter is original for an adventure and well incorporated, Although it's short, It still takes a bit of time to figure it out, well until you figure out how to get angry consistently.
almost brilliantly scripted except for a few things:
Spoiler
*using the Gun or Poster on various things eg. Target or Vending Machine results in the message "No I need all the money I can get"
*Similarly if you use the Rope on things it gets a message about being a brick
*Also if you use the chips on the vending machine it thinks it's the gun
*You can keep getting the rope.
*When the boss is dead, if you look at the booth, it still gives you a message "Must Kill"
*In some places, the first time you use an object on something it doesn't display what you used it on, but after that it works fine eg. If you use the poster on the back door, it doesn't display "back door" in the message the first time but everytime after it does. ie it says something like "you can't use the pink poster on the" (note: I tested this again and couldn't get it to work, maybe another object has to be used first not the poster, but it was a speech type message not the gui text window)
*After I kicked the dog Twice, once from vending machine, then from the skill tester he was running around in the booth screen, then I left and came back and the dog was positioned in the air off a walkable area. like this:

A game well worth playing, and I hope it gets the recognition it deserves.

Ummm, and I don't know how Alynn missed the beautiful readme, which is also titled "ReadMeYouBastard". Quite appropriate  ;D

Converting Video file formats is one of the reasons processor speed has been going up (besides games), It's one of the only things that actually utilises CPU speed but it is still just a slow process.

The reason the file size is large is probably because of the different compression ratios, what you've described sounds pretty much right as far as I know.

It's a bitch of a process, I don't know what processor you have but the faster the better as far as time is concerned.

It's much faster to actually make it into a DVD or copy a DVD, it's just converting a file to the right type to make a DVD that is the killer.

but it's probably easier to just watch porn on your computer

Great game Duzz, I haven't got far yet, but I like what I see.

Excellent stuff

I had cable TV for a few years and all that I watched was a couple of movies, it was just a waste of money cause I still watched a lot of free to air programs, but here in Australia cable is pathetic, but probably the same as anywhere, just probably not as many stations, and most of them American anyway.

I prefer British comedy to American generally, If you ever get to see a British sitcom "Coupling" watch it, It's clever, witty, well developed characters, hilarious, best sitcom I've seen in years, I just wish it was still on here, I haven't seen it for almost a year, I hope it gets played again, I have no idea if they still make it.

As far as American sitcoms go, It's gone down hill since Seinfeld finished, I don't like any that still get showed here. And for some reason Everybody Can't Fucking Stand Raymond became the next big thing, and it's really annoying.

as far as Drama/cop shows go, CSI was good at first but becomes a bit the same hence boring after a while, I did enjoy X-Files in the first few series, but nothing of note has been intersting since.

I never watched Charmed, but I can see why it's been popular, put some cute chicks in sexy clothes (or lack of) and put them on tv, it doesn't really matter what they say.

I used to like tv but now I prefer to use the computer or go to the pub.

It's good in a way that Tv has gone down hill, it allows you to do other things without thinking, "but I don't want to miss that show". If I miss a show these days, It doesn't really phase me.

I watch a lot of sport, Cricket, Rugby League, AFL, Tennis, so these basically cover the whole year, so there's always something to watch.

The only good show I've seen in the last few years was Coupling, so if you can find it anywhere, it's worth the watch.

here's a link http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/coupling/

If you know the show, I'm like the character Jeff

No no no, The Toxic Avenger or Maniac Cop, now they are up there

I finally got to see it, I guess most people have seen it by now, it only came out here on boxing day and I broke my tradition and saw it the day after.

I must say, I wasn't as excited about going to see it as the others, but I guess it's just soooo loooong between them, that the excitement wore off a couple of years ago.

I did enjoy it, but I thought they left out some important bits and didn't emphasize other bits I thought were important to me. But hey, it's a movie and not the book, I do realise that.

here's some spoilers to describe some of my thoughts:

Spoiler
note: it's been I while since I read it so I may be wrong about some things, and some names, spelling etc
At the end of the second book they were in shalob's lair, but it was well into the third movie when they decided to insert that part.

I though Faramir's dad, can't remember his name, actually killed himself behind the door, not by Mithrandir, though I could be wrong, but that's the way I remember it.

When Eowyn killed the head Nazgul there was a bright light that shot up into the air or something which was mentioned in three seperate parts of the 3rd book, it was a land mark point that linked to where the different parties were positioned at the time, I thought the movie didn't highlight the importance of that event.

The order of events was changed but it was probably not that bad a thing cause the book was written in seperate chapters following the different characters paths and then going back to do other characters, and in the sense of a movie I think it worked well the way they did it.

The end of the movie was a bit drawn out and a bit girly, but not nearly as much as the book. (eg. the destruction of the ring was about halfway through book 3 if that)

I was very dissapointed that Sauraman was left out in the third part cause it was really important to know what happened on the journey home and the path of destruction leading all the way back to the shire, and finding out that that bloke was Sauraman. (not that you didn't know it was him anyway)

They did slightly brush on the fact that Eowyn eventually fell for Faramir, for about 2 secs, if you blinked you missed it.

That's just a taste of my thoughts from the 3rd part, It's pointless to go on cause the movie isn't the book, but some bits could have been better.

I've already mentioned other thoughts last year so I won't go back there.
Tom Bombadil, woops!

tim, can you tell us all the AGSers in the picture? I cant figure out some of them

From the left sky in the first picture clockwise:

Fidodido, Flippy D, Pumaman, Trapezoid, Ghost, Elvis, M, DG McPhee (a hard one as it's an aussie actor named 'Daniel McPherson' he's probably familiar in England as he was on 'Neighbours' and is now on 'The Bill'), Minime, Snake, Timosity, Bspeers, Scotch (a nice comfy spot), 2ma2, Tarantula, Plasticman, Mr_Frisby, Panda, Punch and Thunderstorm (the background obviously).

I think that's the lot

Ah, It's already the 27th now, but I haven't been online since the first post in this thread.

I didn't have a hangover on christmas, I just drank lots of water before I went to bed, and more when I got up, had a great day (drinking again), and scored pretty well, I got a new motherboard and P4 2.6 Ghtz processor, and the Indy DVD set.

It was bloody hot xmas day, about 37 C, (99 F)

but I spent most of it Either in my cousins air conditioned house (eating and drinking) set at a cool 22 C or in the pool which was 28 C.

Much better day than I expected, I guess I was a bit hasty saying I was over it, It hadn't really begun. It was the best xmas I've had in ages.
#775
Yeah, I agree with Igor in a way, It's totally different at different agaes.

When you don't have much money, it's silly to fork out money you can't afford. If it was up to me, that no presents thingy would be sweet, but it does go far beyond the commercial side, it's just unfortunate.

The best solution would be to agree to not buy presents for christmas and then go sick at the sales the day after or during January, you'd be sure to spend at least half as much and get the same quality shit. How dumb are we all.
#776
I've had a great night on the piss, I just got home from the pub at 10 to 2 am on christmas morning, I caught up with people I hadn't seen for ages, and now it's time to go to bed, and wait for santa.

damnit, when I was about 7 I prentended to be asleep to see if santa was real, and caught my mum delivering my presents, I never thought santa was real, and I proved myself right that night.

I wish I wasn't so inquisitive, anyweay, happy christmas everyone, and I hope the Kebab went down ok.

Have a great day

Edit: I'm too drunk to post, Is this real, Happy xms anyway, I love this community.

Yeah, maybe like Mills said, but have 3 from each years awards including 2003 when done. Just so it's some of the old & new.

The only problem is which games get to star, who decides? this will cause debate in itself, but I guess atleast 'best game' from each year.

Happy birthday Petteri,

18th, is that the legal age for drinking and going to clubs/pubs in Finland?

Have a great birthday and Christmas, it's about 4:40pm on the 24th as I'm typing, which means it's only 7hrs and 20 mins till Xmas.

It's traditionally a big drinking night on xmas eve here, and xmas, & boxing day etc, new years, at least I'm sober now, well I don't drink that much anyway lately. Almost time to go to the pub.

Have fun

Everyones getting movie vouchers from me, everyone likes movies, and it saves much time thinking & shopping. One day I'll get more adventurous but I can't stand shopping on a normal day, so shopping at christmas can just get flossed.

I hope people are more thoughtful for me, I'd love heaps of movie vouchers.
