General Discussion / Re:How pure are YOU?
Mon 22/12/2003 05:37:24
57% pure

people less pure than you (38%)
people like you (2%)
people more pure than you (60%)

out of 13,789,282

that's a fair amount of people, but how many of them have lied? and how many are women?

I feel that's fairy normal, I've done some bad things but I'm not a sick bastard.

I'm 31% slutty
which is actually less than the average, 46%.

So I'm less slutty than the sluts that took the test.

Here's 20, some probably easier than others.

Here's another

I was curious why it wasn't working so I made a test game with 2 rooms and used your code (copy & paste from here, except the guion's and different object animation numbers)

It works fine in before or after fadein and even with the getgamespeed() part.

I don't know why it's not working for you, maybe there's some other code that is stopping it from working.

Sorry I can't help, cause it seems you've done nothing wrong, maybe someone could move this to the tech forum and get Pumaman to see if he knows a possible problem.

If your not too far in maybe you could start it again, but you may have to upload it somewhere for someone to have a look at ie. Pumaman

otherwise there is just something really simple your missing.

Sweet, looks promising aussie.

I'll be interested in seeing how it all turns out

Good luck

You have the animation set to repeat so it should continuously repeat, I assume that's what you want to happen until the timer expires.

What is the game speed set to? maybe you have to physically set the game speed first, cause maybe it's setting the timer to 0 which cancels the timer.

I'd say it has something to do with the timer because that's the only bit of your script not working, just have a play around with it.

Try what James Kay suggested, but I don't see how it would make much difference with the way you've done it already, cause it's already a non blocking function. but sometimes these things work.

I have cable, I think it's a 10 Mbit line but that information is hard to find on the website, even in the FAQ's under speed. It just says it uses the maximum speed possible.

I get a 3GB a month limit anyway, but I just got an email today saying happy christmas and get 6GB for the rest of Dec, then 6GB in Jan, and 6GB in Feb from my ISP (which is for everyone not just me)

18 months ago there was no limit and for 2 years I got used to downlaoding movies and large files, probably atleast 10GB per month, plus I used to get up to 1000kb/s eg. d/l a 60 Megabyte game in 1 minute

now I get generally around 200kb/s sometimes more sometimes less depending on sites, time of day. It also makes a difference how close your house is to the nearest exchange.

So it now costs more to get slower speed, monthly limit of downloads (if you exceed you get capped to the speed of a 28.8 modem until the next month)

It became popular so they fuck it up for everyone to cash in.

I never understand the speed stuff cause it never seems to make sense,

eg. 1632 Kbps or 200 Kbytes per second.

they are both the same speed but whats the difference between Kbps and Kbytes per second (I always though that Kbps was Kbytes per second, but obviously not and is just there to confuse people into thinking they have faster connections [or slower]. I guess the difference is bits or bytes

the above speed was my second test, but the first test I recieved these results

that was pretty flukey.

I got the result from this page

http://www.dungogtlc.org/speedtest.shtml

edit: I'm not sure where this site is hosted but probably in Australia, I remember there was a thread somewhere on this forum that had links to other speed tests, I'm sure someone can post a few different locations.

Try putting this bit after fadein

// script for room: Player enters screen (after fadein)

SetObjectView (0, 7);
AnimateObject (0, 0, 15, 1);
SetTimer (1, 5*GetGameSpeed());

or even just this line

SetTimer (1, 5*GetGameSpeed());

hope that works

Happy B'day Fizz,

I got told on the weekend I don't look any older than 23, I turn 28 in Feb, so I hope it lasts until I'm old, suddenly I'll probably look 40 at 35.

19 is a great age, use it wisely.

Quote from: SimSaw on Wed 17/12/2003 13:45:08Ha! Ha! It is a lot easier! When you have recorded one file then go to your windows directory then to the sub directory temp and then copy the file ~av7ae.tmp and name it x.wav (x is what you want). Very simple made programm, isn't it?

But it's also easier with the full cracked version

The name of Timothy has made you serious-minded, responsible, and stable. You love the security of a home and family, you are fond of children, and, as a parent you would be fair and understanding. Although you have good business judgment, you are not aggressive in your dealings because you do not like to create issues. You would be successful in any position dealing with the public as you have a diplomatic and tactful manner and possess a charming, easy-going nature which puts people at ease. People are drawn to you because they feel that you are patient, kind, understanding, and responsive.

It's accurate in some areas and not others, therefore exactly what I expected, just like peoples star signs and shite like that, you will always find some part of it that relates to you. (If I had more self confidence it would be much more accurate)

But the description for my name seems quite positive and if I could live up to the description, I wouldn't complain, but nobody's that perfect.

Hehe,

That's where I bought my sega megadrive, I was living in Jesmond at the time

General Discussion / Re:Saddam Captured?
Mon 15/12/2003 06:27:40
Yes, it's pretty obvious that the socalled search for WD40 was really just an excuse to go in and get Saddam, which should have happened in 91.

whether the WD40 exist or not in Iraq has really been irrelevent in what's been happening. It's good that they have captured the Evil Dictator, but as others have said, It's just one man (although they have already captured some of his mates) and there are pleanty of other people who are just as evil.

We don't even hear about what's happening in Afghanistan, which is where it all began after 11/9 before it got sidetracked and surprise surprise somehow ended up in Iraq.

Bush has achieved all he wanted all along now, so hopefully he can just get fucked, it was just personal family business.

Nothing much has really changed, he was doing nothing in a hole, now he is out of a hole.

THe question is what will happen now. Where will he be tried? What will be his punishment?

There's no reason he should be taken to the US, why would that even be a consideration, what has it got to do with the US justice system. He was in Iraq, captured in Iraq so it seems logical to be tried there. by who I don't know.

The problem is it is likely he will be executed, which is too good for him, he deserves to be interrogated and psychologically tortured for the rest of his life. That would be much worse than death.

As for the Iraqi people, we will see much more footage of the people against Saddam, where I'm sure there is still pleanty of support for him.
It will still be a long time before they can repair the country, physically and psychologically, and I'm sure some children that have lived through this will become the next generation of pissed off leaders with similar attitudes and start this cycle over again.

So only time will tell whether what has happened is a good or bad thing (and by time I don't mean short term, ie atleast 30-40 years and onward)

The events that have occurred in the last few years are exactly like a thread on these forums that goes completely off topic, just with fewer deaths. (well maybe just a few more)

There is a program I've used to do it:

http://www.midi2wav.com/

it does cost money though, although there is a  free demo version that has some restrictions, but if you're converting midi's to wavs for sound effects it works well, cause it allows you only to save 10 second wav files.

If you need more, if you're clever you can break up the midi into sections and then join the wav files.

but the program works perfectly.

The game looks alright, unfortunately I don't own any console except a sega megadrive. I can imagine it would be popular Penrith way seeing as they won this year, but I'm sure commercially it will do alright in Aus.

I'll probably play it at someones house one day.

I'm so glad Penrith beat Easts in the GF, I couldn't stand the fucking roosters winning again, Go the Raiders

As far as global warming goes, we definately have some impact, but the earth over many ages has warmed up cooled down over and over without anything much to do with us.

There are certain events that can change it much more dramatically than us, eg. a large ateroid hitting the earth causinga lot of dust in the atmosphere, cooling it down to another ice age, wiping us out.

There are much greater forces at work than humans in altering our planets temperatures. Plus you'll probably find out that the current weather isn't out of the ordinary if you compare it to other years in the past.

The other thing is that the records we keep are hardly comparable to anything significant, considering how long we've been keeping records to how ever long the earth has been around.

We have caused a lot of problems and still aren't changing our ways, but in the end, it's really out of our control, we can try to help in the short term, but the long will be changed by greater forces than us arrogant humans can imagine.

Weather does come in patterns, but there are greater scale patterns above that level and then even greater etc so eg there are patterns in the time we have recorded, then there are say, patterns that occur every 1000 years, then some every 1000,000 years etc

we can't possibly comprehend certain events that may change our planet, but we probably won't exist then anyway, and the events of our global warming may just have given some other species a chance of survival better than ourselves, Like  some other creatures probably did for us once upon a time.

So at the greater scale, we're not as significant as we think we are, the sooner we realise this, the more fun we can have without worrying about power and control, and the other more serious shite that fucks up a simple life.

Quote from: Pumaman on Thu 11/12/2003 20:21:26I might have to take a holiday there, but "accidentally" forget to leave.

That does happen quite a bit, all those poms over staying there visa's, I can understand why they don't want to leave, the sun, the surf, the women.

I'd actually like to experience a Christams in the snow one day.

It has pretty much rained all day, and has been in the mid to low 20's C so quite cold for summer but as usual the weather man got it wrong, it was supposed to be 31 but they did get the thunderstorms right, yay I love ligtning (as long as it doesn't take the power out)

Note: They don't worry too much about English outstaying their visa's compared to some poor refugees that they stick in a "detention centre" (terrible jail in the middle of the desert) The system is totally fucked

Well It was bloody hot and humid here in Sydney today, (the humidity is the killer) not too used to humidity here cause it has hardly rained for the last 2 years or so, but there has been a little bit lately, but not enough to lift water restrictions.

Still wearing shorts and t-shirt at 3:15 am and it's not to cold to go out for a smoko, It's actually quite pleasant.

Summer can get really hot over here, and winter is not that cold, but still too cold for me, probably gets down to about 10 C near the coast. I have never seen snow in Sydney but maybe a bit of sleet once. But big Chunks of hail in summer (destroying homes cars etc)

Nothing like a christmas drinking beers around the pool to cool off. I feel sorry for Santa wearing that bloody suit when he comes down here, he's a friggin moron, he should strip down to underwear and shave off the beard (silly fool, also lucky his sleigh can fly cause there's no snow to slide on)

There is hardly anywhere that snows on the whole continent, I don't think we could physically pull off a winter olympics, cause even where it snows, it's not gauranteed.

A couple of weeks ago I played cricket on a day close to 40 C which is about 104 F, (each saturday it goes from 1pm to 6pm) It's not the hottest day I've played in but to strenuous physical activity in that heat is extremely hard, it's draining enough to be in the sun on a day like that.

So Yeah, I hate winter, I'm just really glad it's SUMMER, I got all sad when everyone from the north was going into summer a few months back, all I can say now IS "yay it is summer"

Just a couple of things I love about summer:

Cicadas singing deafiningly loud in the trees (even on a warm evening at 3 in the morning)

A fast violent thunder storm in the afternoon to cool things off (rare in last few years, and as long as they don't destroy your home)

Watching thunderstorms out to sea (at the headland at Bar Beach in Newie is an awesome spot)

The amount of topless bathers there are these days

You'll find a lot of DVD players have the ability to be multi-region even if they are not. I know that even some stores tell you how to do it.

It's usually like pressing some really strange combination of buttons on the remote control. you could probably look it up on the internet.
