you can set objects to ignore walkbehinds eg.

SetObjectIgnoreWalkbehinds (1,1); // will make object 1 ignore walk behinds.

but if the object still needs to be behind other walkbehinds you'll have to play around with other baselines.

You can change object, walkbehind and character baselines in script with

SetCharacterBaseline(CHARID, int baseline);

SetObjectBaseline(int object, int baseline);

SetWalkBehindBase(int area, int baseline);

which can get tricky in some circumstances but it is possible.

eg. if 2 characters are standing in exactly the same spot physically on the screen, but one is walking over a bridge and one under it, it can be done by manipulating different baselines.

Edit: yep you beat me, but I did add in some other ideas if it wasn't just the first bit

What the hell is boxing day?  ::)

As someone from northern Europe I had never heard of this tradition before I spent some time in Canada. However, boxing day is the day after Christmas when you go around the town and beat the living daylights out of people who gave you crappy presents.

I like that rendition of boxing day, it seems like more fun.

I always thought it was the day you put all your christmas presents back in their box never to play with them again, or you played with the boxes that you got your presents in.

but it is a public holiday (originally st. stephen's day or something) it's of British origin and is celebrated In Brittain, Canada, New Zealand, Australia & probably other commonwealth countries. It is something to do with giving less fortunate people gifts the day after christmas, or something along those lines. I guess people haven't changed much over the centuries, giving away their crap presents to seem like they're doing something nice.

These days It's really just another excuse to drink for another day, but more importantly it is the day I can go and see 'Return of the King' at the movies, although there are already advanced screenings and it was officially released in NZ on Dec. 1.

That has been my boxing day for the last couple of years, It'll be dissappointing that there won't be another one on 26th Dec 2004, There's also the "Boxing Day Test", an annual Cricket test at the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) and there's the "Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race" which is also a Proud tradition (I'm totally not into it) but it is one of the most Dangerous Yacht races on earth, there can be some of the most trecherous sea conditions of anywhere in the world down the South East corner of Aust.  The "Roaring 40's" go right through Bass Straight, many people have been killed in the race, even recently.

That's about all I know on the subject, but Yak, that was the most interesting, and most intelligent thing I've read in this thread. (seriously, even though it was just an off the wall statement/question)

It seems strange having live auditions, Especially when most people from these forums are not from the USA or NY (and I'm sure won't make the trip), although I'm sure you are advertising this on many websites.

With technology so advanced these days, I think some people would be able to submit samples from all over the world. I know you will want professional sounds and you can't have people using different equipment for the actual recordings, but to get a sample to see if someone has potential is a must I'd say.

It is also essential for a game like this to have many different accents from all over the world, I'm sure there are people from New York that have plenty of different accents, but it is essential not to have too many American accents for a game like this (IMO).

It's Up to your team to decide on these matters, but I'm sure you're limiting the potential of this game by using this method. It's hard to find enough good voices in one place (even in a city the size of NY) but you might get lucky.

Good luck in your quest

You can just check the box in each room "play music on room load" and select the track number.

if you want it to play the same track in a few different rooms just put that track number in that room. (if the track is already playing, it won't start again in the next room if it is the same track number) if you want another track for other rooms, just put another track number in that room.

if you want the music track to repeat over and over, use:

SetMusicRepeat(1);

if you want it to play once and then stop use:

SetMusicRepeat(0);

If you change music within a room script, you need to Stop the current music playing first with:

StopMusic();

then you can start a new track using:

PlayMusic(5); //will start music5

That is just the basics of playing music and should be enough info to get you started.

Hope it helps

Very simple and clean looking, I like it a lot. Just out of interest seeing as it is a LA style gui, will you still have right click to cycle through modes. Just personally, I don't know why most LA gui's don't use this feature as an added bonus, it just makes it better IMO.

I think I've heard of something like this happening, and a work around was just import some temp sprites (so the sprite number is filled again that it was looking for) then you can go and find the sprite you want.

I could be thinking of something else though, but it seems logical.

Looks excellent Duzz, I see you've come up with a name, and it's close to completion. I loved that bear video thingy, excellent animation.

I've put it on my Christmas list, I hope it's done in time.

Good luck with finishing.

It was a total fluke really, I was looking at the Top 15 posters list, and that strange number just popped out at me. I don't usually post crap like this, but It was an impulse reaction.

I don't even write 1337, it pisses me off usually, but I thought some people here like that kind of thing.

Quote from: MrColossal on Sat 06/12/2003 06:49:55PS What duz 1337 mean?!!?!

It means "One Thousand Three Hundred and Thirty Seven"

13+37=50, 5+0=5

1+3+3+7=14, 1+4=5

So in the end it means "S"

There is an 'S' in "Silly"

Which 5ums it all up.

The show sounds like a bit of spam itself.

On spam, I don't get a hell of a lot of it on my main email (I don't give my address to many people.) And I quite often try to unsubscribe from some of them. I probably get about 2 to 4 a day, occasionally more.

It's a bit dodgey unsubscribing cause sometimes you fill out a form with your emai address on it and are probably subscribing to something else, but I've been doing this for a few years with this email address and I don't get a lot of spam.

So I think the odds in unsubscribing do actually work in your favour, If I didn't unsubscribe, I'm sure I'd get a shitload more.

I hate ones you can't unsubscribe from, or the unsubscribe address is a broken link, also spam that is sent and doesn't even have your address in the TO: bit, I can't work out why you even get them. (even if you look at the email properties, your address isn't in any of the paths)

I remember playing pong on atari, that the kids next door had, before I had a computer.

I did have a 'Game & Watch' which I had a game called Turtle bridge, Donkey Kong was on 'Game & Watch' Too on a double LCD screen, These were the original Nintendo's before the consoles. They were so cool, I think I still have it somewhere.

There were basic arcade games Like Pacman & Space Invaders, but these were at Arcades.

Eventually in the Early 80's we got a C64, and had Pitfall & Pitfall 2 on tape (a computer tape, same as audio tape, but these were used before floppy disc's)

My favourite cartridge game on C64 was "Wizard of War".

My First adventure game I played wasn't until I was in High School, in about 1989 (in Year 8 ) I played LSL3, Then SQ3, then all the previous ones, and others like PQ, KQ, Code name: Iceman, then I got Hero's Quest for a christmas sometime (I still have the original box, 3.5 & 5.25 discs & manual, probably worth a bit these days) I'd heard about MI & MM, but never knew any one that had them and it wasn't until I was into my 20's that I played the MM & MI games.

It wasn't until this year that I found a copy of GF in Kmart.

Also have a search through this forum, cause I'm sure there's probably still one of these topics that hasn't slipped off the end yet.

You can change object, walkbehind and character baselines in script with

SetCharacterBaseline(CHARID, int baseline);

SetObjectBaseline(int object, int baseline);

SetWalkBehindBase(int area, int baseline);

you can change any of these any time during the animations (but obviously at the right time)

To have animations occurring and allow you to still have control of your player character play around with something like this:

in rooms repeatedly execute

if (GetGlobalInt(10)==1) { //set global int 10 to one when you want the character to animate (eg turn away)

SetCharacterView(EGO,5);
AnimateCharacter(EGO,0,5,0);
SetTimer(4,200);
SetGlobalInt(10,2); // to get to next part of code
}

if (GetGlobalInt(10)==2) {
if (IsTimerExpired(4)==1) {
AnimateCharacterEx(EGO,0,5,0,1,0);
SetGlobalInt(10,3); // to get to next part of code
}
}

if (GetGlobalInt(10)==3) {
if (character[EGO].animating==0) {
SetGlobalInt(10,1); // to get back to start of loop
}
}

with This bit of code, EGO will turn with the first animation, then wait for about 5 seconds and then turn back, this will happen continually and you will have complete control of the player.

If you want the character to stop turning, you can set globalint 10 to 0 or 4 or higher when you pick up the object, or somewhere else in the script where you like.

You could have it so you can only pick up the object when globalint 10 = 2, or something like that.

I hope I'm on the right track for what you're after.

I just have a new challenge that I'm quite excited about, the bamboo jungle in LSL3, now this seems easy, but like usual things in this game aren't as they seem.

The jungle itself is 72 rooms (to the naked eye) but in the original this was done with 2 rooms. There are 2 different rooms that have an exit to the N, S, E & W, with objects on the screen to block off each direction. this will take a lot of scripting for walking off edges and keeping track of where you are in the maze. Also keeping in mind different walkbehinds and walkable areas for the different possibilities.

I will keep the same amount of rooms for the maze (eg. grid size, 8 wide, 9 high) and I have designed a totally new maze, but to keep the scripting easier and less messy, I have made 16 rooms for different directions, to help with walkbehinds and walkable areas.

Now it's up to the scripting of walking off edges, I've gotta actually start it before I can get my head around how I will keep track, but I've planned it all on paper and all the screens and walkbehinds are in place. I'm looking forward to it.

NB. I know no one really cares, but I just had to mention it.

Happy B'day Scummy,

The name of this thread reminds me of a story:

when I was at college a few years ago, in one class we all had to set up hotmail accounts, and there was a Russian guy sitting next to me who's English wasn't too good and he typed in hotmale.com, you can assume the type of site he ended up at. I noticed his mistake and helped him out (I was sore for a week) and got him to the correct site.

It almost sounds like one of those urban myths, but it actually happened.

Hope you have a great day.

just on running, they don't necessarily lean forward that far, if you notice sprinters almost look like they're leaning back (still pretty upright), with their chests out, heads up and bum back. Leaning that far forward looks like a struggling runner running out of breath, or he's about to fall over forwards, or about to cross the finish line.

I think it's more to do with the arms and legs, from your first attempt, unless you're going for an uncoordinated look.
#819
just as another trick, you could make it a hidden file, but that also depends on the windows personal settings, ie whether they are set to 'show all files' or 'do not show hidden or system files'

the files will still be there but less chance of people noticing they are.

I never use my hotmail account except for signing up for somethings I think will give me spam.

A Handy Hotmail Tip:

I found out you can actually set it up so that it only accepts emails from people in your address book, and deletes all the other shit automatically.

Seeing as I haven't used it as my main email for about 5 years, no one sends me emails to it, so the only emails I get are from the hotmail staff.

The downside is you have to add an address to receive an email from someone you might want one from but don't have their address. but it's much better than getting 100's of bullshit spam every week.
