Site & Forum Reports / Re: Bug reports

Maybe that's a known problem:

The download counter for "The Can" for example doesn't seem to work.

The host site behind the download link is FileSwap.com.
With FileSwap you can't link to the download button on their site directly, so that the download file will appear
instantly (except for the very fist time). On all subsequent occasions of someone hitting the download button here in the AGS database, it changes to FileSwap and you've to
hit another download button again over there.

Not sure if that has any bearing on the issue at all though...

Thanks, Arj0n.

GameMcSherlock found another one in the archived data:

Everlight Forest Demo    - game's entry in the database  [It's a an installer version, setup.exe file]

Also, another double entry:
SWEE NIGHTMARE by John Scott [27 Sept. 2011] (had game-breaking bug/ see comment)
Sweet_Nightmare by John Phillip Scott [1 Oct. 2011] (seems to have been the updated version)
Both lost for now though.

Yes, waheela got it! It's Winter's Bone.
The connection to the previous screenshot was that Kyle MacLachlan and Sheryl Lee both acted in Twin Peaks and
Twin Peaks, as well as Winter's Bone, deals on some level with murder in a fairly isolated community. (named the
picture even 'firewalkwithme' hoping someone would get that connection ...I admit, a bit far fetched!)

Your go waheela!

Changed it, but please do me one favour AGA and let's not mention that one again...
Taking a screenshot was kind of a traumatic experience...

The Internet really is an eerie place sometimes... (sorry for double posting)

Managed to wrestle three 'lost' AGS games from the virtual netherworld over at Internet Archive!

For two of those, I'm not sure whether that is a good thing at all though - but that's not for me to decide:

"All Hallows' Eve"      ...that one seems actually fun.

"Hell's Satans"            ...mmhh... :sealed:

"Drugs and Alians"      (wrong) (wtf)

INFO for the AGS Panel, review comments for "Hell's Satans" & "drugs and alians" needs to be revised (broken link/wrong game files)

There's a link to the previous one, but rather 'intertextual' and not that helpful in order to guess the movie...

Holy crap, is that Robert Patrick in the picture? I've never seen From Dusk 'Til Dawn, and it would be super weird if I somehow recognized him from his sleeve. My super-power is identifying obscure photos of Robert Patrick.
He meant "Die Hard" was the right answer - but that's not why I'm writing this...FOR THE LOVE OF...MOVIES - grab a copy and watch that one, Eric!
It even works on a Road Movie level - that part alone makes it worth your while!!

edited, *note to self* think first, write later...

Quick info:
"Clash of Forces - Episode 2" was made available again for download by it's author. The download links to his website - if someone wants to archive it for future 'safekeeping'.

"D.Jones: Deceased" by Cameron Urquhart can be disabled. Got a message from him saying that he's fine with it.

I'm wrecking my brain here. There're still so many possibilities, "Pet Sematary" for example.
At first I thought it was "Maniac Cop" or "Psycho Cop", but the visual style of your shot fits non
of these - looks kind of like early-mid 90s. Another screenshot perhaps?

edit: Damn, I know what it is now. What a mean shot, that 'Mario' dude! I prefer not to go again though,
having posted the previous one and all.
When this movie came out, fine rib vests must've been a fairly popular Christmas present that year!

I'm going through the "broken links + broken downloads" unavailable list (as is) at the moment, contacting the authors. Could everyone who contacted game authors so far (during this effort!) send me a quick PM, about who they contacted and whether per e-mail or PM? This way I could avoid spamming the authors with messages.

Two entries I was able to isolate so far:

Crazy Mansion/ Maniac Mansion 3 - never was - there were a few attempts, first one here in the in-production thread, second one here (antimort & Black Knight are guests, no members here) and one on indiegogo.
I don't think the database should be abused as an advertisement spot for games that might one day happen (the only thing that entry ever provided as download was a theme song). I'd say chuck it out!

Matt and James Amazing Game For Everyone - never was - read comment on entry page! "Coming soon" advertisement from 2009. (by 'Coolmatt' - no member on the forums/ no in-production thread & no other references on the forums (aside from this thread))
EDIT: OK, researched some more for this one. There seems to have been a demo, according to the author's blog, but you needed to mail him on order to get it. Will try to contact the guy.

Another one would be Rise of the Dragon.
This game is edgy and mature, albeit a little clichéd by contemporary perception (it's more than 20 years old after all).

Hehe, nice one, Iceboty! He makes a great real-life Mario.

Is that bloke in the dark jacket a cop, is that the link?
#134
Well, that one might be too obvious, but Blade Runner (1997) immediately came to mind...

That's what I've been saying all the time. Just check the games db to see if the link points to agsa download (not games page). If not, check if the game's available on agsa. If it is, change the link to point there,
Yep, that's what we have been doing all along...
Quote
if it isn't and the games is elsewhere, create the page and download on agsa and point the games db to that direction.
No one has told me we were able to do that..?! That would've saved a lot of time!!! Mediafire...*mumblemuttercurse*

There your are, finally!! I told you aaaaages ago already!

Yes, it's your go...

Yeah, I wasn't clear about that. Linking the AGS database entries to Peder's AGSA is basically what we did for the past two weeks (with a few minor exceptions that actually only have outside mirrors). If the missing game was in the AGSA database, we linked it there. I even pasted an AGSA link as download mirror in most entries while fixing screenshots. I meant exclusively those games that have no mirror at all so far, no AGSA entry (or file!), no outside mirror...
Means, how/where shall we store those game files until someone can upload those to the AGSA database?

"The Laughing Policeman" aka "An Investigation of a Murder" (<-- which kind of moron thought that was a good alternative title for that film!!!)

Probably because I likely wouldn't ever watch a movie called "The Laughing Policeman". But "An Investigation of a Murder" sounds better (although still sounds a bit cheesy).
Obviously, but you know what I mean. That's like calling "The Big Lebowski": "Stoned dude wants his carpet back", how more dumbing-down does it get?! If you've seen "The Laughing Policeman", the protagonist doesn't even smile one single time throughout the whole movie, it's a hardboiled cop film - that's the whole cynical punchline...
#139
That would be great, Arj0n. Especially considering your ability to make those missing games appear out of nowhere!

Some info in between: All available versions of AS Racing Manager are missing the ac2game.dat file.
It seems to have been downloaded 5,500 times, no comments on the entry page. Was there ever a version that actually worked? Does anyone know?

edit: Nevermind, it seems to have worked at some point in 2005 at least:AGS Games in Production / AS Racing Manager, however buggy.
Anyway, every zip file is missing that file so far...

And one question: I'm slowly getting somewhat confused with all the upload/download resources we have. We can't just simply link those game entries to Arj0ns uploads (or the link Peder posted: http://arj0n.agsarchives.com/) directly, or can we? We download them and upload them to sites like mediafire for now (at least that's what I did with the few games I fixed from the 'unavailable' list so far). Sorry, total noob concerning all that server mubojumbo-overhead-bandwith-limitations stuff. :embarrassed:

Absolutely, Snarky! That's it.
A gritty urban police procedural film with a great bunch of characters. Quite cynical & "honest", in a sense that the protagonists are as clueless as the viewer at times and you see
them following up on many dead-end leads. In certain key scenes it almost feels like an "American Giallo" for some reason (yeah, I know, I'm an oxy-moron!), but it fits the overall mood of the movie to the point.) Watch it if you can...

EDIT: Dang, sorry bbX1138! Seems like you guessed it first! Stupid alternative titles, it's the same movie:
"The Laughing Policeman" aka "An Investigation of a Murder" (<-- which kind of moron thought that was a good alternative title for that film!!!)
Sorry Snarky! Blame the international releases! :)

Yep, your go bbX1138!
