The second game that caused me a considerable amount of discomfort & a feeling of nausea due to 'motion sickness' upon my very first try
(...the first game being Wolfenstein 3D). Nudge, nudge!

I'll be honest: too much hassle to make this one google image search safe :cheesy:
Stay fair peeps, though the choice is yours, obviously...

I'd like to finish something up today, so I'll hand it in tomorrow if I may.

If all requests would rhyme so fine,
how could anyone reject your act.

As under the auspice' of Miez,
at his behest, leniency is a frequent guest!

So, do not fret, I wager he'd agree, it is a bet.

To all of you, as ever,
all yo' entries appear 'sweet ass' and very clever!

edit: Dang, Anian. You changed it, it doesn't work anymore!!
edit2: Uhh, saved it, thanks to the invention of the 'back' button!
edit3: Also: I tip my hat to you, good sir, well played!

The other "The Birds" movie...

Spoiler
Ahh, George...Stark?
Then it's probably 'The Dark Half'.

Admittedly, I would've never guessed it without your hint.
Never played the game, only read the novel during my Stephen King craze, a long,
looong time ago.

That's a great idea, Phemar!
A central and concise hub for AGS resources would be awesome. Especially considering Peder's offer to host it at AGSA.

Our AGS Wiki is quite confusing at times, especially for newbies (even provided they worked their way through the manual).
Since I'm exactly at that point, where I'm searching for script tutorials etc., I'm definitely willing to help out in this endeavour
in any way I can!

One thing we should definitely consider is having a direct link to Densming's AGS Tutorial Videos on YouTube, since they're an invaluable
source of a first step-by-step approach for people new to AGS. (Or maybe even hosting those videos itself - not sure what's more feasible?)

@ Calin Leafshade/ @ ddq
Another mandatory read for "advanced" newbs IMO should be "AGS Script 101: A Primer" by Steven Poulton and Drew Wellman.
It was hosted somewhere for a while, but seemingly the site went down. I was able to retrieve the data from google cache, but
it's all garbled due to formatting.

I've tried to contact Calin about it, but that friggin' woodelf doesn't seem to check his PMs too ofton . So if either DDQ or Calin are
seeing this thread: Do you guys still have a hypertext version of that document somewhere? (an additional PDF version for offline work
would be awesome too).

Densming's video tutorials and "AGS Script 101: A Primer" should definitely be included in a central resources hub under tutorials.

I have been slowly working on my Simpsons Template over the years.
Awesome to hear you're still working on that Simpsons template, Joseph! :cheesy: Downloaded it ages ago and was really impressed. Your template
would provide people starting out with AGS with the perfect means to create a game without much "fuss".

I think it's a brilliant idea!! Especially, with your background. Go for it!

Yes, it may be true that the majority of games produced during the '90s FMV craze were utter crap and lacking in so and so many ways.
(All the more reason to produce something of value using that technique!)

Think back for a moment, guys and compare the technical limitations of those days with the technical standards we have today (...and progressing) -
game production and film making alike. (new technique in a new medium, resolution, memory restrictions, affordable equipment, post-production modalities... ...etc.)

However, that is not even the point IMO. I'm indeed fairly certain they could've produced more brilliant games even in those days. Just not many desingers seem
to have bothered to do so at the time. To me it looks nowadays like a slight case of a medium's technical side 'taking over' it's narrative side, rather than vice versa.

I thoroughly enjoyed "Gabriel Knight 2: The Beast Within" at that time. (6 or 7 CDs(!),can't remember, see technical limitations ).
A FMV title with great atmosphere and when it ended, I felt deeply affected by what I had just witnessed. (Not sure if it still holds up today, haven't played it in ages.)

Another game using the green-screen technique, here on the AGS forums, is "The Face of Corruption" by Xenogia. Unfortunately due to some 'complications' during production it is somehwhat in hiatus at the moment and all the photo links seem to be broken.
It looks very, very promising. You can still check out the youtube links in the first post to get an impression of the game.
Maybe even drop him a PM. I'm quite sure some of his experiences might be of value to you.

Could write more, but I'm too tired right now - another time.

What about a variant of #1?

You could integrate it into the Verb Coin on the Player.  This way, you would not need to interact with another object, only yourself.
That could be a solution, though one major disadvantage of an 'interactable' player character is that it's frequently going to block background hotspots.
The player would be forced to move his character 'out of the way' prior to interacting with those hotspot on many occasions throughout the game.

Another possibility would be to cycle through those shapeshifting-modes by using the mouse-wheel. Considering the shapeshifting theme and the correlation of interface
and player control, this could be a pretty smooth solution I'd imagine (i.e. putting the player in direct control of those transformations).
The obvious disadvantage being that not every player has a mouse-wheel in the first place and it'd be fairly restriced by the amount of shapes needed before it becomes cumbersome.

I have reworded the voting bit to be far more obvious.  I have vaguely considered adding some sort of context based AJAX thingamabob that lets users do certain things, but don't hold your breath.

Cheers, AGA. You really ARE on a roll! :cheesy:

I may be a bit crazy. I've just left a comment, but don't see a place to rate the games (only the AGS panel rating).
On the game page, just beneath the list of details (to the right of the screenshot) is a little box marked 'public opinion'.  There may or may not already be some stats in the box, it depends if enough people have rated it.

Same here, man! I was actually too embarrassed to bring that up. (Since the "new" :-[ snazzy game's page design) Every time I wanted to (quickly!) rate a game after finishing, it went something like this:

Look at game's page:
...see AGS rating (or not yet) - don't vote here - OK!
...read Player Rating Website: not enough votes yet - OK! - but I want to vote - follow link - mostly 404 error (and yes, I do realised it's two sperate categories - NOW!)
...read 'Public Opinion' box, but only up to the 'not enough votes' part - ...BUT I WANT TO VOTE AND CHANGE THAT!!! = vicious circle
(I swear I miss that 'your vote?'-link EVERY single time! - and yep, I'm an idiot!)

Still, my point is, people not using our forums frequently (and me!) might very easily miss the vote option. Is there any way to implement a 'quick vote' bar for numbskulls like me? When logged in, you could choose the amount of blue cups on mouse-over (Similar to the faded out/solid 'AGS Panel Rating' bar). We are (still) 'point and clickers' after all.

edit: ...to clarify: not only for thick dudes like me, but to ENCOURAGE voting, primarily!
edit2: This is only an 'issue' if a particular game hasn't received enough votes yet! See 'Public Opinion' box text.

I thought Cat was joking during the AGSA ceremony, but AGS members really DO seem to be taking over the WORLD!

(...is there some secret agenda that I'm not aware of...?)

Heartfelt congratulations, hofmeier!
Probing new territories in gaming and what games can also BE is already very commendable in it's own right, but it's
especially awesome to see people acknowledging that 'journey'. (...also that dough!)

I thought about these people on abydos in stargate too, but I've seen the movie way too often to know it's not from the film so I didn't post at all

Uhoh, then I did you a grave injustice, Ponch.
I thought your 'Stargate' guess was a 'Blade Runner!' guess.

I totally knew where you were coming from though:
'The Man Who Would Be King' ends, desert still there, 300 years or so pass, there you go = Stargate! (<- That sequence
seemed absolutely logical to me at that time - disturbing, ain't it?!)

WOW! I tried to make that shot as obscure as possible without being unfair. But that didn't seem to bother Baron one bit. Dead on target!

It is indeed "The Man Who Would Be King" (1975), the adventures and misadventures of Daniel Dravot & Peachey Carnehan.
An adaptation of a Rudyard Kippling novella and directed by John Huston.

Your turn, Baron.

@Ponch: It is also 'Stargate' - but only AFTER it is 'The Man Who Would Be King'

Trying to fill out your interview. "If so, when did you first played to Maniac Mansion?" translates to, "When did you first play Maniac Mansion" (date?), doesn't it?

I don't know why people don't bother that much with the demo category, perhaps they think it's jinxed or something, or just unnecessary.

I'd really love to hear some personal impressions, especially of people having produced a demo, why that is. At the same time, I just realised I never actively searched for demos in the
database. (I usually just dowload them as they appear in the 'in production' thread) Also the search option seems to be deselected by default - that's not a plea to change that - just saying it might perhaps influence people's perception of the demo category?
Also, I just realised, subconsciously I don't ascribe the same 'importance' to the name tag 'demo', as I do to the name tag 'game', which is quite ridiculous here on AGS. (some demos are longer than some short games,... etc.)

@ Tramponline - From your words both to Ponch and myself, I assume you've been doing nothing but drink beer since the Awards Ceremony?!?!?!  8-0

Haha, do I really sound THAT deranged?? I swear, I didn't touch a single drop since then! Though, I admit ,occasionally I do sound drunk when I'm sober and
sober when I'm drunk.
Even though it was an act during the award announcement itself (honestly!), it did kind of catch up with me afterwards. Mmh, now that I come to think of it,
sounds a bit like a twisted upside down version of 'method acting' to me.

I was interested in whether having a demo released and receiving some sort of recognition boosted that percentage - not very much, it would seem!  A shame that some really promising games will never actually be made.

Don't you dare to subconsciously twist some flimsy excuse for not finishing Captain D. out of this! That demo has the best british-humor-Douglas-Adams kind of vibe EVA'!
We NEED that game, I tell ya!!! *tramp wipes off sweat of madness from his brows*
