QuoteMaking it possible to set custom properties during runtime: like having SetTextProperty.

This has been requested a few times over the years; the reason it doesn't happen yet is to cut down on the size of the save games. But it probably wouldn't add too much data to persist this.

How about separating the two into Run-Time Properties and Read-Only properties (or more likely just a bool checkbox) so that the ones that don't need to be won't bloat the save size.

But I don't know much, so my suggestion might bloat it more.

Hints & Tips / Re: 6 Days A Sacrifice

eureka and charly,

The problem with your questions are that you're too vague. Luckily 6DAS is sectioned into days, so if you tell us what day it is and what you've done then we can more easily help you.

General Discussion / Re: Vista & admin rights?

Well, if the admin thing is unchecked, then it shouldn't pop up the window. Since it is, I'm guessing* it's probably not a Windows problem  and it's a possibly a Last.fm/Winamp conflict or something. I don't use Winamp anymore and I've never use Last.fm so I'm afraid I can't help. Maybe it's a version incompatability? Have you tried reinstalling Winamp or running an update?

Although you could try checking that box (on the main program), running it, closing the program, then unchecking the box. That might the smack on the head that Vista needs.

For the GUIs, you'll have to make your own:
For quit, check out QuitGame in the manual.
As for Save/Load there is a tutorial on the AGS Wiki, and default ones will be included in the next release of AGS. If you wanted to, you could download install the RC of the newest and export both GUIs and re-import them into your current project (assuming you have a 3.x version).

And I have no idea about the music.

So letterboxing or pillarboxing depending on the game's native res? I'm with that.

Does the Winamp icon have the admin addition to it (the little shield)? What about certain shortcuts? Try rightclicking and choosing 'Open file location' until you get to the exe, does it require admin there? Have you checked 'Run this program as an administrator' under the Properties>Compatibility?

Just random thoughts and suggestions, so I have no idea if they're actually relevant.

PS-I actually like Vista. I wouldn't suggest upgrading, but it's on a new comp---I say keep it.

Or you could not show the ceiling. In most adventure games, there is no point to interact with the ceiling, so it isn't even present in BGs.

A "hero"? More like an unfortunate idiot.

Both sides are to blame, the cop should have fired a warning shot (I don't blame the other cop for throwing a stun) and the kid and his buddies shouldn't be pelting cops anyway.

Freakin' speachless. I so want to see your WIP.

Which isn't to say I don't love the others and their connection to the theme.

Now now, no need for that. Just think of the mess the janitor will have to clean...
But Roger Wilco can do anything! He even has a golden mop!

I was gonna take some screen captures, riddled with sarcastic comments, and post them here. But I decided not to because Gilbet, suicidal pencil, and myself are all right.

And Stupot's right too. Most Adventure games don't use or require the arrow keys so it's not really something you think about (parser games excluded from that). It's just an extra convenience which is why it's included with the Default Template.

Ghost is right about the mouse thing, and it sounds like you know what the drawing part will require.

To expand upon suicidal's comments, you should look up DrawingSurface and DynamicSprite in the manual. But I'm not even sure if you need them....

I can't believe no one has mentioned Yahtzee's adventure games. They're not fully horror games, maybe "thriller" is a better term. They have their share of spookiness and gore though.

I figured it was a given, but I had forgotten that he said "keep in mind I'm a total adventure gaming newbie."

Walking with the Arrow Keys is from the module that's included in the Default Template. Just delete that script from your game and also the related line from game_start.

What speech setting do you have? Lucas Arts? Sierra with no picture? Sierra with picture? Sierra with full portrait? (I think that's all)

Hosting services can easily be found by googling image host (sites like imageshack) and there is also a sticky in the C&C that you can use for short-term AGS-related pictures (such as a Sprite Jam entry)

And also, welcome to the forums! Can't wait to see your entry.

You'll have to make a new Gui for Quit conformation, I'd suggest looking at the code for the Restart Gui (included in the Default Game Template).

Also check out QuitGame() entry in the manual.

A powerpoint-kind of slideshow tutorial - "like click on little arrow to go to next page" is super easy to make in Flash.
Adding music wouldn't be too difficult neither.

That actually reminded me... I think I once saw a software that converted powerpoints to flash... I think it was basically for presentation things, so probably nothing too fancy.

But yeah, I'd have to say flash too (plus there's a free 30-day trial of CS4). If you plan on using Flashscript (it's scripting language) then know that it was updated to 3.0 with the CS3 release, and earlier versions using 2.something. I believe that 3.0 is more object oriented... but I can't remember. It's been a year since I used it.
