rvampire, 'conditional' brings up Interaction events, and the two scripting tutorials. But everything still applies to interaction scripting. Conditional is just the normal, non-programming name for an if-statement.

Pumaman, that did remind me. It always annoyed me that the tutorial help pages where all named 'untitled'. But I read somewhere (previous beta thread I think while running a forum search) that this couldn't be changed because of how the help file was compiled. Is this still the case?

QuoteHehe don't push your luck
Yeah yeah, I knew it wouldn't be with release cycle. But that would be my most desired feature (followed by a variable tab in the output window, but I won't expect that until at least AGS 8.3 :P).

And lastly, excellent work as always CJ! Shame (for AGS 3.2 :D) that your break will be ending soon.

Did you read the post before yours? I didn't mean that it couldn't be done, I just used the wrong words.

I think it could be pushed even further, causing for extra dialogue and scenes---insisting that the player mess up and explore around!

"Hey, there's that bastard that killed the sheriff!! Run him out of town!"

Excellent site, I've been watching the vids sporadically all day. One of the callers of a previous episode wanted more games on Mac and Linux, since most are for Windows. Luckily, AGS is multi-OS operational!

~Trent
PS-If that's not a real phrase/word, it is now.
#725
The asterisked phrase (as now edited) should start from 'pretty'. Yes it's possible, but like you say, horrible and unlikely.

Although I am excited for Crystal Shard's raycaster!

Sounds like a great idea, but should there be a 'self-moderating rule' that states that you can't immediately change and rebuke someone else's addition?

For example on Apocalyptic's paintover. The logical thing would probably be to add a hook hand, or maybe something random like an umbrella hat. What would be unacceptable would be redoing the legs and cancelling out the previous edit. Granted, once the picture has evolved enough (background, npcs, etc) it would be okay.

Then again, such a thing would probably be done only by trolls, so perhaps it's not needed.

This was originally question in Beginner's Tech asking why += and -= weren't in the manual. This sparked a 'discussion' on the other operators and that they should be implemented.  I changed the topic title, but it was never moved (as I found out, most likely because those mods hardly log in)

1) Add += and -= into the manual. They already work, so why not update the manual? I find them immensely useful, and more so than the binary ones.

2) Added support of *=, /=, and %=. As dkh said in the orig, *= and /= are used very often, and I don't see how hard it can be‡ to implement all of them into AGS.

~Trent
‡  I bet people use that phrase all the time.

From the other topic:

I can't say for sure why the += and -= shortcut operators aren't included in the documentation (but yet, as you say, the binary operators are...).

Definitely I'd say it would be useful for new members to know about.

It is notable that at the moment there are no *=, /=, or %= operators however.
Quote from: dkh on Thu 06/11/2008 10:30:56
While we're talking about these, I have often noticed the lack of *= and /* respectively and thus would welcome their addition. Can't imagine it can be much of a time investment to implement them?

I really use the remainder operator % so rarely that it's not a big hassle to type in the few more characters. I use *= and /= often though!

Of course, if Chris implements *= and /=, it wouldn't be a problem (I suspect this should be pretty easy to get into AGS) to just add the %= as well, at the very least for consistency's sake!

robvalue, you mean Morrowind, not Oblivion. Morrowind popped up a window and treated you as intelligent, Oblivion treated you like a baby and wouldn't let anyone important die (which I guess is okay when it comes to AI acting random, but that's what the cheating;) debug console was for)

But rob reminded me of another topic/idea:
Suppose that an AGS had walking deads in it. Suppose it was an excellent game even though it had walking deads. Suppose it had a frequent autosave. Suppose it popped up a warning saying (you have passed a point of no-return and have missed an important item).

In this hypothetical game, would you support a feature that turned off all saving features once you entered walking-dead mode?

~Trent
PS-That game truly is hypothetical, I would never implement such a thing.
PSS-I only cheat in TES after I beat the main quests and main guilds on subsequent playthroughs. And even then, it's usually just teleporting :)

I still can't stand that sideways picture. If you want me to believe that I'm the character and I'm looking through his eyes and I'm controlling his actions, don't force me to tilt my head.

Wow! Just skimmed through this topic, and I too would be interested in the progress that's been made.

Don't know what caused it, but I do know that you can rename (I'd make a copy of it first) Game.agf.bak and remove '.bak'

I like the pale yellow color that you did in the last edit. I'd also try other colors of light (pink, green, blue) with the color you have. I think the saturation is pretty good, but you could try changing the hue.

Then again, that might look horrible in a game (especially in your style).

~Trent
PS- I wasn't trying to insult your intelligence by suggesting that you didn't get what he meant. Rather, it's an insult to mine and my common sense, and says that I should really sleep more. :D

Flash (and the rest of the Adobe Suite) does have the 30 day trial, which is excellent for programs of such high caliber.

The only font editor I know of for AGS is Radiant's Font Edit. I didn't even know .wfn was a normal format outside of AGS.

You're color theory is messed up. I'm used to:
Red--Control, leader
Yellow--Fun, party-lover
White--Peace maker
And I can't remember Blue.... :(

Not that your color theory is wrong, I've just never heard of those ones used.

I've found that cheap wireless routers are not worth it whatsoever, and for a short jaunt like this probably unnecessary. And if it bugs out, it'll be a pain (cause they both "need internet access simultaneously"). But if you're willing to spend the cash, I'd say it's worth the investment and convenience.

A basic normal LAN hub however, can usually be found at thrift stores. (Plug in an Ethernet cable into all of the ports after you buy though, just to check).

PS-CJ's picture made me laugh out louf for 2 min. straight.

I use credit because it's faster than debit in person and because I can't use debit online... I've heard people talk about how it's possible, but it never has been for me. Maybe it's a Canadian thing? That said, I always make sure my balance is 0 at least once a week, and usually every evening that I've used it. Paying interest on a credit card is about the dumbest waste of money I can imagine.

My brother's debit card is both through his bank (a local Utah one) and Visa, so he uses it online all the time. Accepted wherever Visas are.

How about making the light yellow to match the original bulb?(that might have been what Questionable meant) Most artificial light appears that way (except neon, argon, fluorescent, and some others).

If you're good enough with AGS, you can make pretty much any type* of game genre. Check out all the games in the Games Database marked Non-adventure games (my personal favorite being Art of Theft). You can also create Adventure hybrids, like the QFG series (and AGDI's QFGIIVGA Remake is excellent!).

~Trent
PS-Calm down on the smileys.... Seriously. More than two is too much (including any that you might quote).

If beomoud's advice doesn't work (and I don't see why not) then you may want to check whether or not you changed the Clickable property for cReceptionist.
