Are you talking about the FollowCharacter command?

I was inspired by matt's recent post in General discussion and an old post by Akumayo to create a new wiki page.

Enjoy :=

I could care less either way.

What are your 'anonymous user statistics' reporting?

Happy birthday Ben!
Did you eat lots of cake?

I was thinking about it too and I came to the same conclusion, you may have to use run-script after every line....

Maybe CJ can implement a new on_event EventType for this?

Yay!!!! Absolutely love it CJ!!

Any better now? I think it makes him look ghostly.

I think he needs pupils, because without them he looks dead (especially with the floppy tongue) as illustrated here:

PS-Despite the fact that that is a completely worthless paintover, it was fun!

I am currently working on a tech demo of my game, and I need artist(s) that can create Backgrounds and Characters based on my descriptions. These can be on the most simple MS Paint level just as long as Characters can fit in them and have correct perspective.

If you wish to work more permanently, I'm looking for Sierra VGA style art.

Please PM me if you are interested.

[Edit1]:After realising how bare this post truly is.

My game is titled Hero of the Rune and is a Adventure/RPG hybrid much the same as Quest For Glory is. I'm aiming for at least the length of QFG1, but I'm a horrible judge at how long it is/will be/ and so forth (I'll leave that to the testers to decide). However, the game and plot are designed specifically to allow the game to break into and be released in two parts (hopefully 1/3 and 2/3 for each).

I'm making it at 640x400 right now, and hope to achieve the quality found in Sierra's VGA games (QFG1, 3-4, SQ4, KQ6, etc). For an AGS example, think ATOTK.

What I need right now though, can be MS Paint linework that shows basic walls, perspective, and objects. Same with character sprites, and portraits (portraits can be 1 frame for now). Once I find a permanent artist (if that's you, all the better!) then I'd like the quality mentioned above. I just basically want something I can put in the engine to start working with.

[Edit2]: The first third has 11 (maybe 12) rooms, 6 unique characters, and 6 characters that look the same but with different portraits.

[Edit3]: I should be fine now.

He has? Oh, that's awesome. I can has link please?

Same site as before, but it's pretty bare now. No forums yet either. But he's been working on backgrounds and plot a bunch for the new Norse setting.

As I recall, it had ten writers and one artist :) Not so great a combo.

I don't even think they were writers, it was probably fans such as, "OMG! QFG4 is teh best!!1 Lets make game about kartina!!!"

Right click a sprite and choose either "Edit in default image editor", "Copy sprite to clipboard", or "Export sprite to file...". Then edit them in whatever paint program (please don't ask which one to use, there is a thread already for that), and then re-import them over the previous Roger sprites.

Well I'm just using it as an example (and it has voices included too) of one way to use Display and Speech separately.

Ever played QFG4? I recently beat it again (20+ times) and it's in my mind right now. So I'll use it to demonstrate:

This video uses the Display function for the narrator.
This other video uses the Say Function for characters. And with AGS, you can even simulate the full-screen version of Speech display.

~Trent
PS-I just used the first videos I found on Youtube, so no need to watch them for more than 30 secs at the most.

I don't like the people in the foreground, I honestly liked just the cityscape and the sky. Since you have the man and kid, it makes it seem like you should focus on them, which draws away the focus from the rest of the picture.

Granted, I'm not an artist whatsoever.

Hahaha! I laughed out loud when I saw that raptor. However, his eyes are bugging me. The Ptero's eyes are okay, but maybe it's cause they make him look asleep.

1)I wouldn't use Display for your player character, and instead use Say for both characters.
Code: ags
function hPicture_Look()
{
 cEgo.Say("That's a lovely picture.");
 cOnlooker.Say("You obviously have no taste.");
}
There is also SayAt and SayBackground that you should look up in the manual.

2)If they're permanent, then I would just stick with properties window settings. Unless I'm understanding what you're saying wrong....
If Bob stays in room2 the entire game, then I would just set his property to that room. If he changes rooms, then yeah, you'd have to use scripting.

~Trent
PS-densming's videos are very helpful, and a few go into the Say functions and things you can do with them (randoms, timers, etc). Check them out!

So A-Tec, are you already working on an installer for KQ8?

Have you ever been in a black room (no windows) with a candle being the only light? It's pretty bright.

One could always supply an Installer and a zip. That way the author will feel proud of his installer, and the people who don't like them can download the zip. Everyone's happy  :P
And find oline space to store the same game twice, and update it twice if you fix bugs.

So are you saying that mirrors aren't worth the hassle?

Why not Mirror1=install, Mirror2=zip?
Professional effort games that will make an installer will have multiple mirrors, I'm sure.
