It is done at last. The game is in 320x200 and 32-bit because the GUI graphics look best in true color. But it doesn't change much if you downgrade it to 16-bit, so if it runs slowly, please do so.

Here's some other related stuff:

Some alien sketch Mozesh drew.

Another important character and his portrait picture.

And just for comparison, here are some characters we were going to use, before we decided to go for more realistic style. All made by Mozesh:

Aren't those cute? ^_^

We won't reveal anything about the story because it's still in designing stage. It's a sci-fi/horror game based in somewhere faraway future. It is gonna very serious game, though the demo is a bit parodic. That's all I'll tell you. :)

Hope you'll enjoy the demo!

rhape and Pablo: You know I didn't talk of you with my "I'm in" statement...

Yes, I know that. It wasn't actually a reply to your post. :)

Edit: Oh and, congrats Wretched... again! :D This makes you a Grand Slam winner in the Hall of Fame!

It is done? Really? Is this true? YEAH! :D

Downloading... :) Damn this looks good...

I was going to make another 2 hours entry yesterday, but then I had to go clean the kitchen, and I lost the inspiration.

I really don't think the head fits in with the style of the body. The body has a lot more contrast. Maybe darken the outline of his hair a bit... Then it might fit better.

There was something in this character that I really liked, so I just couldn't resist to make a quick paintover! :)

I think it's very good for a first sprite. You just should watch out for double pixelling (pixels side by side). Also, I think sprites look much better without black outlines. But that might be part of your style too.

Nice sprite anyway!

Haha, just hilarious :D

And yes:

How terribly awkward at times

Wow. Absolutely amazing graphics! Makes me really want to play this game. I especially like the background of the first screenshot. :)

One question, will you release this game chapter by chapter? Or will you release all chapters as one game?
#1029
Well, there is no such code as PlaySpeech.

Why can't you just use PlaySoundEx and use channel 3-5?

Something like PlaySoundEx(yoursoundfile, 3);

Planning is a funny word. Yes we are planning on releasing something with Mozesh. I just have to stop being lazy so that we can get it done for the deadline. :=

She probably wanted to show him that the image doesn't work.

I did read through it but it doesn't really go in-depth enough to cover what I needed to do.

Visible property (GUI)

Example:

gSettings.Visible = true;

will turn on the SETTINGS GUI.

That was the example from the manual and I think that was all you needed to know. :)
#1033
You just simply use the Visible code again:

gQuitgui.Visible = true;

If this is what you meant.

Me too, very good idea ProgZmax! I'd like to see something like this in the later versions of AGS.
#1035
Code: ags
if (button == 0) { //The Quit button
Ã,  QuitGame(0);
}

if (button == 1) { //The Return-to-game button
Ã,  gQuit.Visible = false; //Here gQuit is your quit GUI.
Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  Ã, //So if your GUI's script name is for example "EXIT" then you change this to gExit.Visible = false;
}

I hope this helps.

By the way, I love the change of expressions while the characters are talking, it's something that's not common in adventure games (The Curse of Monkey Island was the only 2D commersial game that does so, as far as I know)
Monkey Island 2 does that too. And yes it is a very nice add to the game. I love it.

The demo was great! I really liked those cutscene animations, they looked wonderful. Very nice animating work! I didn't like it when the cursor mode automatically changes to walk mode when you click on something, but otherwise it's a very cool interface.

Good luck with this project, I'm waiting for more!

I was talking about face expressions, not arm movements and so on. That thing was on Sam and Max as well.

Monkey Island 2 does face expressions too in some places.

I didn't find any function that would allow you to change GUI border and/or GUI background color from the global script. This would be a very useful feature to have.

Also, if there is one but I just didn't find it, please tell me.

Thank you.
#1038
Hahaha, that pic looks so great! I want to play this! If you cancel this project I will cancel YOU! (Did that make any sense? ...whatever...)
#1039
Well, actually what I meant was that there have been quite much arguing with new people here lately. Especially with Flukeblake. I'd just want people to stop this, if it's not too much to ask. Now that I read my post again, yes you're right that might sound hostile, if you take it that way, but I certainly do not want to start a flame war.

Esper: I of course didn't mean that YOU alone are making it worse. Sorry if my post gave you that image. :) I meant that many people here don't accept him. If they did, I believe he would turn out to be a very nice person after all. Really...

* Pablo takes a chill pill.

Guys, you know, you are not acting any more mature than Flukeblake is. I mean, yes he can be irritating sometimes, but PLEASE guys stop being asses at him! This community should be a friendly and nice place to be in. Nobody should be in the fear that everytime you say something, someones gonna attack you!

(and don't listen to Fluke.. .we didn't make him that way... )

Yes but you sure as hell are making it worse.

Now that I've said what I had to say, welcome aboard Snaezy. Enjoy your stay at this nowadays so hostile community.
