I actually disagree with Ben on the visible forehead thing. I liked the longish hair that goes all the way to his eyebrows. I did however make his eyes one pixel lower so that his forehead wouldn't look too small.

This is my take on the shading and colors. Also modified the face and hair a bit.

You were using a lot of "useless" colors in your latest version. I took the colors down to the minimum amount that is required for shaded sprites. I also used a bit less saturated colors.

You're off to a good start!

If it's just a matter of voting now then yes, English please!

A physics engine in an adventure game sounds a bit too ambitious and quite frankly useless in my opinion. Unless one wants to improve the visual look of the game but that can be achieved by other means too.

Excellent! Looks really nice and indeed a very good theme song. This looks like the kind of game I would enjoy playing. Good luck with it!

I doubt it. As it is the dialog system pauses everything else in the game so every button and action will be disabled. If your programming skills are high enough you could try and script your own dialog system. I did that once when I had a similiar problem. Apart from that I can't really come up with any solution.

She's a bit old and dusty but she still works like a charm.

I just wanted to point out something. People seem to be worried about other people feeling left out if they only mention one name as their best buddy. Well, that is incorrect. Think about it like this. You post one name, someone will think "He didn't mention me." but they will also think "Ah well, he didn't mention anyone else either".

BUT! If you write a huge list of names, there's someone you are bound to forget. That guy will think "All those names and *I* was not mentioned!"

This is why it's better to just say one name because really, you can't concider everyone your best friend. You can only have one of those. Or in my case, two apparently...

The editor compiles a small (under 1 kb) speech.vox file into my compiled folder even though I don't have a single file inside the Speech-, Music- or Sound-folders. Also I noticed that if I remove the compiled folder completely and try to run the game the editor crashes without warning. And if the compiled folder is removed the editor won't recreate it automatically while recompiling, which it did in 2.72.

The graphics look nicely old school. Not Sierra/LucasArts but AGS old school. Reminds me of a lot of some of the older AGS games. Sure, they're not the best around but they're not horrible either.

The story does sound very good. Good luck with this!

General Discussion / Your bestest AGS buddy?
Sun 13/04/2008 03:22:27
This is the thread that's gonna make most people go "Why is nobody mentioning me!?" and make other people shed happy tears.

So there I was, lying in my bed, trying to sleep. It was no use, I don't feel sleepy at all. So I started thinking about stuff. About people. About AGS people. I began to wonder: "Whom do I consider my best friend around the AGS circles?"

This was an intriguing question for me, since I've made a lot of new friends around here and I like them all so much. But there are a couple of people who I'm more in touch with than the others. Finally I managed to cut the list of people down to two. Both are the first people from here that I really got to know, Mozesh and Ishmael. These are the guys I can talk to about almost everything that's going on with me and get along with better than the rest. Between these guys it's almost impossible to me to choose whom I consider a better friend...

I'm almost certain that every regular member of this very socially active community, who has been around for a long enough time, has made some friends here. To you I present this question:

Who is your bestest AGS buddy and why?

That's some pretty damn good looking art! I love the style. Well done!

I think the problem here is that you are using the Pick up -event when you are not in fact using the Pick up cursor. The default "hand" cursor in AGS is the Interact-cursor, which I assume you are using. So instead of making an event for Pick up object, make an event for Interact object and see what happens.

I don't really know how parsers work or what exactly you're trying to achieve but there is one error in your code. In an if-statement you don't use the semicolon. Also, you need to put brackets around an if-statement. So in this case it would be:

Code: ags
if (Parser.Said("What a wonderful day.")) {

You guys trying to "help" just made a mess of it.

IMO the first is the best out of them :P

Well, seeing as this IS the critics lounge and seeing as his image indeed needs improving and seeing as he asked for "help" himself it would be sort of rude not to "help".

Thought I'd try to fix some points and maybe give you a few ideas:

The first thing to bother me was the head. The eyes in his mask seemed a bit too small and overall it looked a bit wonky. Then there was the huge ass that doesn't necessarily even have to show from that angle. Then his left foot was really overly large.

I did like how you managed to do the hands though. I personally find drawing hands very difficult and especially his left hand (our right) looks very well positioned.

I also tried to give you some pointers on how to make his torso a bit more muscular.

I hope you find some of this helpful! Keep it up!

or is it just ignorant/arogant to think that - since the c&c-forum is exacly the same?

Yeah, it is. :) Just be active in C&C if you want to help people, as mentioned. No point in starting a specific thread for something like this I think.

Give me a reasonable example of why someone would be a member of these forums for at least a year and not have been using AGS for at least just over a month?

Just off the top of my head, this hypothetical person loves adventure games, by which I mean loves playing them. Only this person has ran out of commercial adventure games to play so they have come here to play some good amateur games. They have no interest in creating them. We have lots of these people here.

Why do you care so much anyway? Hell, you've been registered for a longer time than I have so that would cut you out of the beginner-category, would it not? And why are people debating this so much instead of doing it since they so much want to see it happen?

Tuomas kind of beat me to it, but anyway:

Entires wont be disqualified because their too good, only people found to be not real beginners will be and there's other ways to find that out than how good their entry is.

I'm intrigued. What ways? How do you define a "beginner"? This is a big problem that will no doubt stir up a lot of controversy if this idea is developed further.

Is beginner someone who has no experience in game creation? Or is it someone who just started using AGS? Because in that case the person could have years of experience behind them and could make an awesome game even though hasn't made games with AGS before.

I'd really like to hear your definition on this.
