General Discussion / Re: The end of a myth

It was not prooven.  Except for mathmatics, nothing is ever prooven, everything is just a theory.  Theories with more or less supporting evidence, perhaps.  Gravity, for instance, just a theory.  LGM having no taste or class, just a theory.  Me being awesome, perhaps the most supported theory of our time, but still a theory.

I watched it yesterday, matineé price, and am willing to state that it will be the worst movie of 2005.  This thing was worse than RE:A.  My friends and I just sat there making sarcastic comments, pointing out plot holes and breaking into laughter during the action scenes.  Mind you, saying "plot holes" implies there must be a plot, which would be going a bit far for this masterpiece.

Farlander, same sex marriages are now legal in seven provinces in Canada and the legislation is currently proceeding (despite quite a few protests by the religious community, I might add) to legalize it nationally as well as change the legal definition of marriage.

Yeah, Flippy.  Quit rocking the boat.

Shh.  Don't tell them.

It drags on in a lot of places, and the ending was a letdown.  They should have jazzed it up with some car chases, maybe  akung-fu fight.

Never played it myself, but apparently some people have. http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/1917  I play a lot of boardgames.  Go out and play them every friday night, in fact, at a university club.  I can state quite clearly that Germans make the best games, as demonstrated by the Catan series and such gems as Puerto Rico.  Or even Elfenland.  Man, that game's crazy.

Or, if you do, be prepared to run.  Run so far away.

THAC0 stands for To Hit Armour Class Zero, it's a level based atribute that decreases as you gain class levels.  Its progression varies by class, with fighters (and barbarians, paladins, but he's not using them) having good progression, and wizards havning the worst.  It's a terrible thing.

Your armour class is how hard it is for things to hit you.  It is 10 - dex bonus (if any, starts at 16 in the old editions, as do all stat bonuses.  You guys are screwed, by the way) - equipment bonus - magic and misc bonuses.  Lower is better and at higher levels -30 isn't uncommon for a really decked out fighter.  Attacking is a simple matter.

You roll a d20, then add some bonuses, subtract others, compare your thac0 and the opponents AC, and then just give up and go home.  (3rd ed solves this by turning thac0 into base attack bonus, and making AC go up instead of down, thus you add everything, and if your modified roll matches or exceeds the enemy's AC, you hit).  If you do hit, you roll weapon damage, which varies by weapon (longswords are a d8, shortswords are a d6).

That's combat at it's most basic.  Have I mentioned that you guys are doomed with stats like those?  And that you should really switch to 3.5, which you can find pdfs for easily.  Better yet, buy them.

Oh man, that's 1st or 2nd ed.  Why don't you just go back to chainmail?  CHAINMAIL!  I mean, THAC0?  Why put yourselves through that? Not to mention the complete cookie cutter classes.

Also, those stats you rolled?  I believe that those are mandatory reroll terrain, there.  The highest stat is a 14, no one's getting bonuses of any sort at all.  Really, consider 3.5, it much better.  I've played everything since 1st ed, as well as palladium, white wolf games, fudge, paranoia and Call of Cthulhu.  Do everyone a favor, switch systems and reroll those characters.

General Discussion / Re: About hair

I've had the same hair cut for almost 20 years now, and I think I'll have it until I'm bald. Ã, I don't have all that much choice in the matter, either, save for just shaving the whole lot off, as I have terribly thick hair, espically for a blonde (though I've got streaks of white from stress), four large cowlicks that absolutly cannot be managed, and way too much bouncyness. Ã, Every time I switch barbers they comment on this. Ã, I have to keep it between 2 and 4 inches, less and it sticks straight up, no matter what I do to it, more and it starts to get all wavy and curly. Ã, This means I need to get it cut every 3 or 4 months. Ã, And I tell you, it gets more and more tempting all the time to just shave the lot off.

That's okay, I didn't put any sounds in VOnLudwig, anyway.  And it is a windows compile, so you don't have to worry about mean old DOS crashing your machine.

You know, this sounds exactly like the cult brainwashing program I set up for the Scientologists.  They don't give you copies of dianetics and tell you about alien ghosts, do they?

Harry Osborne doesn't become Hobgoblin, he becomes the second incarnation of The Green Goblin.  I'd say he'll definatly show up in the thrid film, and probably Marry Jane will meet an unfortunate end as well.  It's inevitable now that she's with Peter and knows he's Spiderman.  That should leave the door wide open for the Black Cat to show up.  As for the Lizard and Venom, I'm not sure, but if I had to guess, I'd put the Lizard in the third as a minor villan along with Green Goblin II, and venom in the fourth with the Black Cat, and no more MJ, they have a nice synergy.

Actually, the laws of conservation of energy allow that something can come from nothing, just so long as an equal amount of negative something also come from nothing at the same time, such that the net total of everything is still nothing.  It's sneaky, but it works.  That's currently the theory about how the universe came into being, all the energy in the universe is equal to all the negative (potential) energy.  Right now, from all the calculations, it does appear that the net energy of the universe is about 0, it might as well not exist from an accounting prespective.

General Discussion / Re: Canada's Election Day
Tue 29/06/2004 04:35:18
I did advance polling a while ago, watching the results now, as Layton is giving his victory speech.Ã,  Well, "victory" speech, having won his riding (barely) and the NDP having doubled the number of seats they hold.Ã,  A liberal minority propped up by the NDP is really the outcome I was hoping for, Harper sends chills down my spine and the Liberals won't be able to be as corrupt as they have been.Ã,  But I didn't quite trust the NDP to not tank the economy.Ã,  I voted NDP myself, thought about voting Green, and am happy they got the 5% they needed for official party status.Ã,  At least, I think they did.

I'm in Ottawa, which is sort of halfway between those two places.  Just inconvienantly placed enough to make it difficult to stop by from either location.

No, a Koi is a type of fish.  A colourful, decorative fish most often found in East Asia.  Women love fish, you see.  More than almost anything.  What he was trying to tell you is that you should dress up like a fish, the more colourful and elaborate the costume the better.  You should then approach the girl and talk to her.  She should be so dazzled and facinated with your costume that you should have no problem bludgeing her over the head and dragging her back by the hair to your cave (house/appartment/lair/time share condo/whatever).  You see, women love a guy who takes charge almost as much as they do fish.  So if you tell them what's what and give them a taste of the back of your hand whenever they give you sass, they'll be yours forever.
