Critics' Lounge / Re: [WIP] Character for game

Actually, I think his face is shaded fine in comparison to the rest of him. My only complaint is that his hair may not have enough shine on it. I know it's a bowl cut, but it could use a little more reflection, just to show off it's smoothness.  ;D

Meet...Uh... Well, she doesn't really have a name yet. (Suggestions are welcome)

Anyway, I've started drawing out a horror game, and designed up the main character. I have NEVER, EVER sprited before, so I'm not sure if she came out right. xD But I'm pretty happy with her design. I may add a bit more to her idle animation later, since I've already been working on this since 10 ( and now it's 12:20am >.>), including clenching and unclenching her fists, and looking to the sides at random intervals. Anything that symbolises anxiety...

This is also a portrait of her face + hair + All that other jazz. As you can see, her sprite changed a bit from her old design, but I'm planning to redraw the portrait with her updated features, since I don't like her punkish look. It'll mostly be used when the characters conversing or investigating certain objects/places, to express her current state of emotion  ;D

If you have any idea of how I can improve either of these (such as changing the design and/or colour) feel free to say so. I'm pretty open minded...  :D

Critics' Lounge / Re: Help with scanned image

Here's what I've tried. I edited it in Paint.NET simply by editing the contrast and brightness levels. It's pretty simple to do so, as finding the perfect shade of black basically requires a bit of fidgeting, tweaking and experimenting.

This is what you were looking for, yes?

I played the game, and I LOVE IT. Unfortunatly, I couldn't get very far, as the controls were really starting to bother me as I was playing. So to be fair, I'll started off with the things I didn't like, then make up for it with the things I loved. :)

I think using the arrow keys might be a little inconvinent, so I was wondering if it could be possible that you include a "W,A,S,D" keys option? The arrows make timing runs more difficult, and trying to run with the "right-shift" (Since it's much easier to use with arrow keys) is very annoying, especially when you die as often as I do, and have to continuesly move your hand to press the space button. It's also the control more gamers are used to using.

Another SMALL (very, very small) pet peeve of mine whilst I was playing this game was that for a I was a bit lost whilst looking for the inventory. But then I again, like I said, it was only a small problem, which I don't really mind. I'm just one of those gals that runs into a game without reading a manual.  :P Maybe including a small text tip after picking up the glass shard at the very start of the game? But honestly, I don't think it's that much of a big deal.

Now to the good:
I loved the game environment, and the graphics in general are wonderfully made. Definately reminds me of Another World, but in a good way-- Since I haven't seen anything like it in a long time.
The atmosphere is PERFECT and I love the sound and music.
The game overall is quite relaxing...  :=

YEEEEEES. That's exactly what I thought when I saw the screens. I swear, as soon as my internet goes back up to it's normal speed, I am SO downloading this. It just looks so cool.

Until then, I'm going to sit in front of the screen, fidgeting my thumbs, and hoping that I won't fall victim to any of the bugs mentioned.  :)

Bahaha... I honestly have no idea what to write about myself. Well, nothing that's interesting about me anyway.  ;D

My first name is Russian, my surname is Italian, I was born in Wuzburg,Germany, my parents are Yugoslavian, I speak Bosnian/Croatian and I currently live in Melbourne, Australia. Incase you want to know my name, it's Vanja.
I am a idiotic-15-year-old highschooler who enjoys nothing more then videogames and art. I think I'm pretty good at drawing, so here is a link to my gallery incase you guys want me to draw some portraits or something for your games: http://ultra-vanilla.deviantart.com (Shameless advertising? Most likely.)

I want to get into the gaming business when I'm older- and I'm keeping a close eye on my dream job: concept artist.  :=

Personality wise, I'm loud and lose track of my thoughts as quickly as I get them under control again. I'm often very friendly and empathetic, not to mention stupidly naive. I'm usually defined as the "slow-but-always-happy-bimbo".
I'm a proud procrastinator, but I still finish 99.9% of things that I start (Except... Homework. Shh. I still get good grades, so it's fine.)
I'm also very, VERY enthusiastic and easily excited by many things, and tend to try and spread the joy around. But, if I'm asked to, I can be serious and horribly honest. And I say horribly, because well, I've made a few friends cry with my bluntness. (Oops.)

I love heavy metal and rock music, but also have a open mind to other genres (As long as it doesn't include Pitbull, T-Pain or Lil' Wayne, I'm happy.)
I still watch Cartoon Network (Courage the Cowardly Dog is definately in my favourites) and watch anime SOMETIMES. I'm not a huge fan, but I tend to favour Animes aimed for older audiences, mostly because I hate how cliche they tend to be when aimed at teens (Although, I can admit, I still love Sailor Moon with burning intense pleasure. Such a cool anime  ;) )

I'm currently brainstorming and sketching ideas for a AGS horror game that I will begin making shortly, just as soon as the story and characters are bit more fleshed out. I imagine it being a Silent Hill styled, since that's one of the titles I tend to look at when I think "HORROR". That, and every Bratz game invented so far. -shudder-

And... That's about it from me.

TL;DR: I'm a martian that shoots chainsaws out of shotguns. Hell yeah.

Critics' Lounge / Re: Help with adding legs.
Sat 30/07/2011 13:49:44
If I may have my two cents in the conversation, I would suggest that you elongate the legs, if you want to keep it to the proportion of the human body. It looks a bit strange that the whole upper half of your character's body is well proportioned whilst the legs are much shorter. It makes them look like midgets... (no offense, really. If that's the look you're going for, go ahead  ;D)

But that's only my preference anyway, so do anything you feel comfortable with. :)

Also, you didn't actually make any changes to the actual picture you just posted... The legs are still the same as the ones you were asking about in the first post. At least try and follow Anian's guide, just to see if it suits the character. :)
