Ok, that gives me something to look for at least. Thanks, jkohen.

Glad you enjoyed it, Tabata :)

Huh. Ok. I can't seem to replicate that.

Spoiler

When you shoot the barrel, the cloud of gas appears above it and the guy covers his face, and you can't click on him? Or do those things not happen?

Hmmm, I don't think thats a bug; theres two ways past that; one is time-sensitive so you can't do it anymore, the other you can still do.

I mean, there >might< be a bug but I can't reproduce it. Here's what to do if you don't ming spoilers for a single puzzle:

Spoiler

If you shoot the barrel you have a very short time to hit the guy. You might want to reload and try it from an earlier save. But you can also give your pistol to Dr. Landri (she says something about "I don't have a weapon") at which point she'll start trying to shoot the guy and distract him. You can then take him out with the rifle from the mercs.

If you do try let me know how it goes, if only to be sure weather its a bug or not.

Gah! I squashed some bugs last night and rezipped/reuploaded the file and it looks like it was corrupted. I've uploaded a working zip just now. Sorry about that  :P

Well, its as done as its going to be for now. I won't rule out revisiting it later, or doing a bit of bug mashing here and there if people find things, but for all intents and purposes the game is done.

Its a short, five-room sci-fi adventure, and my first "completed" game project as I start towards my Game Development degree at SCAD Atlanta. Sadly, thats why I have to move on to other things; next quarter we're doing some heavy Unity-engine development and I have to familiarize myself with that ASAP.

I hope you all find it entertaining! And as I mentioned before in my other threads, thanks very much to the community. You all are awesome; the volume of helpful advice to be gleaned from these forums is fantastic. And AGS itself is really a great engine to work with.

Anyway, on with the show.

You can find and download the game here:

Huh, please do send me the error code so I can try to replicate it. If you use the interact (hand) Icon it shouldn't happen though. A lot of people asked that I allow "walk" on the shaft and its causing some issues.

Well, tons of updates! Almost done I think. Same link.

Thanks again to everyone who's helped!

And its up!

Unless anyone finds any major problems I'll be calling it done and moving it to release this week.

Hey guys, sorry I disappeared. I turned in "enough" of the game to do well enough in the class, and since then progress has slowed but not stopped. I'll be putting up a new version with comprehensive updates and fixes soon. Right now I'm gonna make sure some animation are working, then I'm going to go room by room tightening up the text and fixing what minor bugs are left.
#10
Tabata, I have not been able to replicate the error, but I will poke around the code in that section and see if I can figure out what happened.
#11
Thanks for the kind comments Trampoline, and thanks for bringing up those errors. I'll look through them soon, probably tonight.
#12
Hey no sweat, stray. You guys are doing me a huge favor as is.

Updated the download with a few little bug fixes. Still haven't implemented everything but some of the more blatant errors should be gone.

Ok, uploaded a new version with a bit of new art (the equipment box) and corrections for a lot of the typos and some of the issues that straydogsrut found. More fixes coming during the day today, especially more fedback for the point Stu got stuck in and in general for things that don't work.

I also have the game pausing properly when in menu now which will make combat easier; this'll be somewhat counteracted by some other things I'm planning so it won't be >too< easy.

UPDATE: Found a game-breaking (well, almost) bug in the final puzzle; nothing major, just a wrong graphic being displayed. I'll have it fixed tonight. Right now I need some sleep.

straydogstrut, thanks for the awesome playtest!

You are on the right track for that final puzzle.... aaaalmost there.

Those of you who've commented on the art/story, while I don't know if I'll be doing any more straight-up point and click adventures, this adventure is set in a sci-fi universe I'm developing so there'll definitely be more art/story in the same universe, and probably more games in some form. I'm considering a space exploration game in the same vein as the old Starflights and Star Control 2. But first I have to finish this one!

I'm finishing up the last "static" art right now (the equipment chest in the first room) and I will me putting in a ton of minor changes all over the place tonight. I have to show the game tomorrow at our last crit, the final being due a week from now.

Thanks for the comments guys. I'll definitely take them into consideration. Gonna put a lot of time into it today.

Yea, there needs to be an "intructions" thing before the game starts to explain the psychic command. Stu, did you ever get past the forcefield? I don't want to outright say the answer cause I'd like to see if anyone else gets stuck there. PM me if you want me to tell you so you can see the rest of the game.

I will definitely have a substantial update by tonight.

Thanks again, guys.

PS: What I would like to do about the combat is have the game to pause all cycles when menu or inventory screens are active, so you can switch weapons, etc without getting shot at. I'm not sure if pausing the game stops the cycles though. I'll have to dig there today.

Thanks a lot for trying it Stu. Feel free to PM me if you get stuck; one of the things I want to find out is if/when people get stuck so I can make sure its not too easy or too hard.

I just uploaded a minor update to it (same link) with new graphics for the final puzzle, which leaves just one unshaded eyesore as far as the backgrounds are concerned; hopefully I'll be able to tackle it today.

Sslaxx, thanks a ton or taking care of the screenshots for me! (and thanks to the mods for editing them into my post!)

Captaind and Dualnames, I'm glad you like the art style! Even after Im done with the game I'll be creating more artwork based on the same universe.

And yes, my deadline is November 18th. I doubt I'll be getting a lot of sleep.

I just updated the test version with new graphics for the final puzzle, which just leaves one minor background to finish (hopefully will get to it during the day today).

Oh snap!

Gah, thats what I get for trying to think without caffeine. Unfortunately I'm stuck away from my computer right now; I think theres something wrong with the html, but the zip file is there. I'll try to link directly... HERE.   Depending on your browser you might have to right-click/save as.

I'll fix the real link in a couple of hours when I get back to my PC. Thanks for giving it a shot.

AGS Games in Production / Echoes of Terra
Mon 08/11/2010 11:51:55
Hello everyone! I registered years ago with some thoughts for a game but then disappeared. Well, I'm back and the good news is that there is actually a game!

Darkdawn - Echoes of Terra

The Story

Earth is gone. The Terran Empire has fallen, destroyed by a mysterious alien race. 800 years later you, an Erudite Seeker, search the stars looking for clues about your ancestors, hoping to reclaim humanity's lost legacy. Now you've found a small, long-dead outpost that once belonged to the Empire... but you quickly realize you're not the only one interested in its secrets.

Echoes of Terra is a short (5-room) sci-fi adventure. Its being produced for a class and I'm swiftly approaching my deadline, so comments and suggestions wanted! I realize this isn't the forum for it though so I'm linking to a thread HERE. Please, I need playtesters!

Some screenshots:

Backgrounds and most art is 90% complete
Game is playable start to finish.
Interface art is like at 70%, need to work on text and text boxes
Sprites are like 2% done and are what I'll be concentrating on this week.

I'll be making a project page on my website soon and there will be daily builds for playtesting until the game's due date on Nov. 18th; the first playable build will go on the linked playtest thread right now.

Thanks, and thanks to everyone who posts answers here in the forums. I haven't had a single question that hasn't been politely answered to someone else already! AGS is a wonderful engine with an amazing community.

UPDATE: Close, Sslaxx... dunno how you found that html but its project1.php that I'm using :p

But yes, heres the proper Project page.

Hello, well, like the title says, I'm a game design student and this is my first game.

Its a short 5 room sci-fi adventure; the promotional thread is HERE.

Theres a lot of placeholder art in there still, but he game is playable start to finish; everything *should* be working, but theres always bugs and issues and I need you guys to help me find them!

I will of course owe you all some playtest time later! Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time.

Game can be downloaded  HERE.

I will have a nicer download page up later today and there will be daily builds over the next 10 days as I approach the turn-in date.

Thanks a lot!

UPDATE: Fixed the download Link! 11/9/10: Fixed hotspot issue in last room
