If you like sci-fi, Beneath a steel sky is going to beat pretty much anything else. It's still my most favourite adventure game of all time.

And, if you like sci-fi and\or enjoyed Planescape: Torment, you can check Knights of the Old Republic II by Chris Avelone, who also wrote P:T. If you find Star Wars repulsing in general, skip it. If you liked original trilogy (ESB especially), give it a try - it's probably darkest, most complex and ambiguous story told within that universe.
Don't forget restoration mod if you're up for it.

One more vote for Grim Fandango. One of two of my favourite games of all times.
Sanitarium - psychodelic, twisted, simply excellent if you enjoy psycho-horrors. And if you enjoyed this one, you'll probably love ags-made Downfall.
Non-adventure:
Second favourite of mine, Planescape: Torment. Very book-like narrative, great characters, twisted world.

Sure I do : )

Only 18 days left! When I get paid on Friday, I'll be putting down a hefty amount of money into this project. Don't let it die!

Not much time to check the series. Just bought it on GOG, it's on 50% discount.
Somehow I've never played Tex Murphy series.

Awkward one.

Early spring, beautyful day. A priest walks in a park. He spots girl playing with her dog. With nothing better to do, the priest asks the girl:
P: What's your name, little girl?
G: My name's Petal.
P: That's some unusual name you have. Is  there any story behind it?
G: Indeed it is, father. About ten years ago, after beautyful wedding ceremony in your church, my parents went to this park to spend some time alone. They made sweent love under this apple tree you can see behind me and their bodies were covered with it's white petals. So they called me Pealt to remember that night forever.
P: That's some beautyful story. And what's your little doggy's name?
G: Piggy.
P: And what's the story behind his name?
G: No story. He just fucks pigs.

I'll never forget fighting Arnold in Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis (Fist mode). I've never defeated him in hand-to-hand combat to this day, but on my first playthrough I didn't realize there's a hidden puzzle to kill him and I tried. And I tried. And I tried. And all you could hear from my computer room was: "Yes! Yes! Yes! ... FUUUCK!" Good memories.

I get angry at annoying character design too. Everytime I replay BG2 I murder the annoying characters (Minsc, Aerie, etc) as soon as they've served their purpose, even if I'm playing a 'good' character.

Minsc (along with Korgan, Viconia and Edwin) is one of characters I usually have in my party. Aerie, I hate. To the point of romancing with her just to get her vampirized by Bohdi and leaving her carcass in some dump.
And while replaying Planescape: Torment I'm always tempted to kill Vhalior - by making him doubt his belives for super-good character, in hand-to-hand combat for any other character.

In Grim's Downfall you play as a very disturbed person, but
Spoiler
most of his evil deeds comes from his delusions.

Harvester makes you play as a person who's
Spoiler
trained to become a serial killer

Hitman series puts you in role of an assassin. Sure, most of people he's killing are evil (probably because nobody gives a crap about paying lots of money for killing ordinary guys), but there are some innocent people you have to kill for, as example, their clothes to be used as a disguise.

I had some ideas to turn the walkcycle generator in to something vaguely like this: the idea being that you could easily animate the limbs to do any action by manipulating the skeleton, and that would make animation of any limb-based action with a character easier, but I never got there...

Did you mean something like this: http://files43.com/en/download/file/17346/skeleton/
?

Nimdok in "I have no mouth and I must scream" maybe? Quite evil and quite serious if you ask me.

You're thinking too deep (c'mon, he was a goon, not an intelectual).
Look in the text of Genesis, not chapters. "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth".

I decided to give your game a chance. There's that thing about me - sometimes I love to play a bad game. I mean, a terrible game. And I usualy find some little redeeming factor that makes the expierience worth it's time.
Here's my little comment based on what I've expierience so far.

1. What I've seen
I don't mind bad graphics. Really. I don't even mind no graphics at all like in old text adventures. But here... well, here something went terribly wrong. Like:
- Character can face only forward (or backward, hard to say). And and so far only thing he can do is... moving left or right!
- If action takes place in a village, it would be highly recommended to include some elements of village's setup... Like, I don't know, cottages, houses, fields maybe. Big gray plane doesn't represent said things sufficiently.
- Sucking one's calf insade his thigh isn't very good representation of walking. Most people face direction they're going.

2. What I've heared
Good dubbing or no dubbing. Really, after first several lines I couldn't figure out what language they speak.

3. What I can't forgive
Spoiler
Short summary of the plot so far:
Two guys talk. One of them gets shoot. Grim Reaper appears (to take him? did he got killed by personified death? did the guy turned into Grim Reaper? never figured out).
Two different guys (miners? did one of them said they are miners?) enter spooky village (well, they say it's a spooky village - all I can see is a plane of infinite grayness with some minimalistic decoration behind). Guys part ways for a reason unknown. And then... ONE OF THEM APPEARS HEADLESS!!! Ouch, right, it's my character and his head is right here, hidden behind upper edge of my monitor. Let's begin our adventure.
I try to look around. Unfortunately the guy isn't very reflective about his surrounding - all he wants to do is to go right. OK, here we go. After rather long walk in this uninspired area we encounter the Grim Reaper again! Short chat with him (he wants to avenge sins of my father I guess) we... go right again! Our friend (the one we entered the village with) awaits us here. He's the first thing we can interact with. Well, almost. We can look at him to learn he looks weird and we should be careful. Why wait then? Let's attack first... Hand cursor + weird looking guy = no reaction at all. Right, right. You want me to talk to him. Mouth cursor + weird looking guy = yep, no reaction at all.
I gave up at this point. Sorry.
