The way I see it, if a thread hasn't been posted in for six months, then the project probably has been abandoned.  There's no sense having someone post a "When's this coming out?" reply on a two year old thread, especially when it only takes two seconds to find out that the original poster hasn't made ANY posts for six months.  Every time I check it for updates to the games I'm interested, there are two more dug up threads on the front page.  If its not on at least the second page, let it die until the developer wants to update it.

I haven't made a WIP thread because I don't want to babysit the thread for two years.  When I have a working demo and the end appears in sight, then I'll post and babysit it for two to six months.

EDIT:  I agree that the hints thread should only be started by mods.  If there is a game in the database there should only be one hint thread for it.

I'm just making a small suggestion to help clean up the WIP boards.

Is there any way to automatically lock all the WIP threads that are say, six monts or a year old.  I keep seeing four or five locked threads on the first page because someone dug up an old thread.  This would at least eliminate the obviously abandoned games from being dug up by someone.  Or would this cause Darth Mandarb's PM box to be inundated with "Unlock My Thread" requests?

One more small question:  If I find an old thread in the tech forums that is related to my question, but does not fully answer it; do I dig up the old thread or do I create a new one?

I think it does now in the latest version.
But I couldn't play the demo of Al Emmo because it didn't give me the option to downgrade to 16-bit (although the error message that I got said to make sure the box was unchecked.)

EDIT: Problem is now solved!  I just came home with a 2.8GHz P4 with a 32 bit graphics card.  I now have no opinion on the matter of making the game with fewer colors or in a smaller download.

I, for one, vote for a lower res version, but not for the smaller file size.  I have a high speed connection, so I don't really care if it is 50 or 100 Mb.  I just haven't yet aquired a PC that has 32bit capabilities.
(Maybe I should look for a PC that doesn't have a coal shute on the side.)

Will your game be available in English or only Italian?  Your website is in English, but the screen-shots are in Italian.  Also, the title on your website is "The Curse of Life," but here it is "The Curse of Live."  It makes more sense in English for it to be "The Curse of Life," like it is on your site.

His arms just move too much.  If his hands only came in as far a his hip, and his elbow didn't bend pulling his hand up, he wouldn't look like he's working so hard.

Good luck on the game, and especially the alcohol-free life!

I hope you post a link to that scene when it's finished.  It ought to be cool!

SteveMcCrea: All Samurai (at least Stateside,) had leaf springs front and rear, no coils.  Also, all had recirculating ball steering gearboxes with linkage, not rack & pinion steering.

Da_Elf: I know your model is modified, but they also all had the axles over the leaf springs, not under them.  But I don't think that there are any left that are still in that original configuration.  All the ones I see go through my shop have had the spring-over conversion done (or at least they all left that way.) They also all seem to be wearing 31x10.50x15 SuperSwampers.

All you have to do to make fake bids is to create a bogus e-mail account.  I suppose e-bay will try to hunt you down, but I'm sure there's a way to create the bogus e-mail account and ebay bidding account without someone logging your IP address.

I once tried to sell my truck on ebay, and set the reserve to $14,500 USD.  When the highest bid I could see one hour before ending was $2500 USD, I logged in under my wife's ebay account and bid $14,450 USD just to see what the highest bidder'd max was, and hopefully to get someone to crest the reserve.  Unfortunately, the previous max bid was only $5000 USD, and no one would bite.

The Rumpus Room / Re: The music thread
Fri 02/02/2007 00:17:37
I haven't heard of several of the bands mentioned.  I guess that makes sense, because I don't listen to pop or rock music.  We have a great 24hr classical music station in Cincinnati to which I usually listen (when I'm not listening to the Christian preaching/teaching station.)

My favourite music composers:
Dvorak
Handel
Mendohlsson
Tchaikovsky
Haydn
Luther

My favourite teachers:
R.C. Sproul
Lasaire Bradley, Jr.
J. Vernon McGee
David Jeremiah

Your "jeep" looks more like a Suzuki than a Jeep.Ã,  But other than that, I like it.

We all do something for a living, and we all want to something we like to do for that living.  I fix cars for a living.  I also do some work on demolition derby cars, for free.  I do some work for my family, for free.  Ocassionally, an friend of mine needs some work done, that I do for $20-30 per hour plus parts.  But if you come to the car dealership where I work for $21/hr, the SAME job costs $85 per hour plus parts, plus tax, plus environmental fees.  I enjoy working on cars, but I SELL my services.  The guys at AGDI obvoiusly like making games.  They realeased two, for free (with voice acting, to boot!)  They're working on a third, for free.  Now, they go to the office and produce a BETTER product.  Why is everyone blasting Himalaya for doing that?  Is $30 too much for their game?  No, It's just more than you want to spend.  If their game was $5, I don't think this thread would look any different.  (If it were shareware for $5, they'd never get paid.)  I couldn't play the demo (my video card isn't good enough,) but every other demo I played, I determined whether I would by the game based more on the demo than the purchase price.  If you didn't like the demo, don't buy the game.  If you liked the demo, you'd be willing to pay for the game.  When I upgrade my PC will I buy the game?  I'll let you know when I play the game.

I wanted to do the same thing on the last translation I was working on.  Since I didn't know the host language, I had to rely on his *nglish translation file.  Some of the *nglish I was sent was so rough that I really wanted to see what I changed it to "in game" before sending it back.  In fact, at times I wanted to recompile it several times in an evening to make sure it flowed.  But the developer was cooperative and quickly recompliled it for me when I asked for it.  Of course, he was finished with the game, and was just waiting for the English translation before releasing it.

It all started when I was looking for a cool name to post on the KQIX site.Ã,  They had just been told by VU that they had to call their game something other than KQIX and they named it The Silver Lining.Ã,

So I went to an on-line thesaurus and typed in "silver lined" and a really interesting word "ciborium" popped out.Ã,  I then looked up the word and checked Google for pictures to find out what it was.Ã,

It is aÃ, container that houses comunion bread, which represents the body of Christ. (Okay, okay, it is a Roman Catholic vessel which houses the Eucharist Host Wafer, which when blessed by the Priest is trans-substatiated into the Body of Christ, according to the Catechism.Ã,  But I'm Presbyterian, so I don't believe in trans-substantiation.Ã,  [Let me be anathematized.])Ã,  Anyway, I thought it fitting to take it as my screen name, and use it on all the sites I visit.Ã,  I pray that I can live up to the moniker I have chosen.

BTW,Ã,  I created the picture of one in Blender.Ã,  It's the only thing I've made in Blender that I consider finished.

My "Company"

Well, it's just a logo to look cool in the forums.  While I am attempting to make a game, you would have to give "attempting" a very loose definition to apply it to what I have actually done.

As far as why it is what it is...
When you purchase a Bible, one of the options is to buy it with or without the words of Christ in red lettering.  This has led to an inside "joke" when someone is teaching on a passage where Christ is speaking.  He asks rehtorically, "How do I know Christ is speaking here?  I have a red letter Bible and it's red/read."  So I named my imaginary company Read Letter Entertainment, and put Read in red lettering so it would be pronounced RED and not REED.  My first game is planned to be a Christian game based on Ephesians 5.  As I am still in the writing stages, and my artistic skills are lacking, I expect it never to be completed without extensive help.

As for registering...
Why do I need to register an imaginary company with no products?  And if my imaginary company does produce a free product, does it really matter if the name is registered?

Spoiler
Being from the central US, I don't handle that many Canadian coins, so I don't know for sure of what material they are made.Ã,  However, I always thought they were aluminum, being lighter than our US copper-zinc coins, and also trom the sound they make when they hit other coins.Ã,  So anyway, what I'm getting to here is, I rejected the idea of using the magnet to get the coins out of the sink because I didn't think they were magnetic (aluminum and US coins aren't.)Ã,  I didn't try the magnet until I just started using items with items, and it stuck to the gummy stick.Ã,  I'm still not sure Canadian coins are magnetic.Ã,  I'll have to check the next time I get some.

Otherwise, it's a very nice little game.

I especially like beating the lumps out of the matress with the make-shift billy-club.Ã,  Now that would have been a good place for some quality animation.

After coming out of the QuickMart, Roccio finds that his car has been vandallized!Ã,  His friend, Stephen, stops by and convinces him to go chick chasing at a local night club to take his mind off of it.Ã,  Arriving at the night club, Roccio finds that he needs a membership card to enter.Ã,  Darnit!Ã,  He just spent his last euro at the QuickMart!

It all looks good...

Except the default text!

Maybe you should use the digital font you used in the title screen and inventory for your speech text.
