Domino, Progzy, hey guys. Good to see you again.

Progz: yeah, publishing has to be the most nerve-wracking industry in the galaxy. Luckily, I think I might have gotten things to look up a bit. Look on shelves next year for a book entitled "Dark Hearts" by an author named Callan Souza.

Rharpe, I checked out your site... I think I remember going once upon a time and seeing a little bare-bones site up. You're really making a nice li'l setup for yourself over there. When i get a bit more time, I might stop in and join the fun. good stuff, glad to see you, man.

:D oops. I think we're using the wrong terminology here, but I meant clockwise, not counter-clockwise. It seems from the looks of the edit that you understood me though  :)

Looks good, and even the very minute details make for a huge change in the overall quality of the pic. Good work.

My first crit back from my long hiatus! Yay!

This is really, really nice. Better than I could do (all my art for my games is normally just static high-res drawings). I love pixel art and and envy people who can do it well. From an art standpoint, I think the overall angle could stand to be moved a bit counterclockwise. It looks like he's just getting ready to move into one of those Michael Jackson Moonwalk leans. Also, he's got tremendous detail, especially in the hair (which I really like), but the hands are just kind of blobby. One last thing: the hoodie looks like it's pulled against his neck and leaning off to one side. I think you should add a bit of hanging hoodie material on the left side to remedy that.

Awesome pic, man. Again, I envy your ability.

What do you mean, I told you I didn't chat. I talk to you on Y! whenever I see you on, but we do have quite a bit of difference in time. You know, Matt just stays up later.

Thanks a ton, Barbarian, and I'll be most happy to do anything you need.

Nik!

(runs toward Nik, arms outstretched... chariots of fire begins to play)

I missed you buddy. Is that your kid? Well, of course that's your kid. He's bigger than I recall, but children do that, don't they?

Welcome back, everybody!!!

...wait, no... Strike that, reverse it... I'M the one whose been gone.

I just wanted to swing in here and say hi to everybody. I've missed being a part of the forum, and with my tabletop RPG ready to be published and my first full-length novel completed and currently in the mailboxes of a ton of literary representatives, I have time to come back and be a part of the goings-on around here.

Everyone please check out my new "welcome back" game, Alpha X: Project SMASH, available
here
.

Yay! I'm back!! For good this time!!!

Thanks, PJ, you're a lifesaver. I kiss you!

Coming along nicely on the sequel. I should have enough materials soon for a WIP thread. I'm not ready right now, but if anyone feels like working on music, voice acting, or animation, I'd sure be glad of the help. Especially the voice acting. ManicMatt did a fine job by himself in secrets, but that was a comedy :)

Oh... my... god...

Sometimes the best answers are the easiest ones, and the dumbest questions are the ones that we spent three days trying to figure out with a fellow AGSer on Skype.

Thank you SOOOO much. I owe you my firstborn.

I'm having a bit of a problem.

In my game, I have a default overlay GUI (it appears like a screen around the room); a GUI in the shape of a small robot in the corner that you click on to access a menu screen that gives you access to the inventory, save/load/quit, and your different cursor modes; that aforementioned GUI that pops out of the robot, and a "scanner" GUI that pops up and covers the screen with a semi-transparent filter that makes it look like the room is being scanned, along with some other nice graphical functions.

My problem is this: when the two latter GUI's are up (the scaner and the menu bar), the game animations freeze. I want the game to continue running while you are using the interface. How can I do this?

thanks so much for keeping up with my project, auriond... I really appreciate it. I used rapidshare for now and it seems to be working fine, but they do delete after 45 inactive days.

thanks again, all. I really hope this whole shebang hasn't hurt the chances of people showing interest in the full-length sequel I'm currently very hard at work on.

Is anyone else having a hard time downloading??? I just had to send the file to ManicMatt over an instant messaging service because the zip file he was getting was corrupted, and the main download site at wikiupload is showing up to me as an invalid url. Does anyone know of a reliable place I could put this thing until agsuploads is working again? I'm trying rapidshare now but it keeps freezing.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it greatly.

Steve: Yeah, I tried AGS first thing. I think Ashen is right, it's still down. Whenever I tried to upload I got a thing in the middle of the page that said EXEC fail or something...

Ashen: Thanks, and yeah, I agree with the footsteps. I really like them as part of the atmosphere to the game, though. Do you think maybe if I cut off one of the footstep sounds and started loading the new room earlier it might make it a bit more bearable in a longer game?

Anyway, I thought I would give an update here on how the new one is coming, since I'm not far enough along yet to get a WIP thread. I'm finished with the new GUI, which is similar to the old one only with some better-devised graphics and more options. Also, it's more compact, so you get everything you need on one screen instead of having to switch between two, and then calling up a third for system functions.

I've added a first-person gunfight capability, where pressing SPACE draws and holsters your gun. It's working nicely so far. I also changed the scanner cursor in Project:SMASH to a regular look cursor. Now, scanning is a seperate option, and I've added a nice little effect to that.

You also have the ability to access computer terminals. Since you're a member of Bureau 6, you have access to the Alpha-X Database from any computer terminal. I'm working on that right now. It should take a while, but when I'm done you should be able to look up anything in the game world.

Thanks again for the download, and I'm glad you enjoyed it.

#253
?? It's working fine for me, I don't see what the problem is. The mirror is still uploading.com, but if you use the main download link, it should take you to wikiwhatchamacallit. I really hope you're wrong, because I PMed blashyrkh and said it was safe to download now!!!
#254
All right, it's up and running. Here you go: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=837 , or go to the completed games page. I ran into a little bit of a problem with the site I was hosting it on not working and featuring NSFW ads, but it's all taken care of now... So download and enjoy.
#255
Thanks for the notification, I'll get to work on finding something. I certainly wish AGS Upload was working. I tried downloading my own game just to make sure that it worked, and all I got was a dating ad, so I didn't think much of it. Attempting to find alternate hosting now...

(EDIT) All done. The new link is currently up and working. It is AD FREE, and seems to work very well. For anyone who might have tried to download the game and either got offended by the NSFW content or weren't even able to get the game, please do me the favor of giving e one more shot. Much obliged.

(EDIT 2)  :-\ Dang it. I left a save game in this new download file!!! Just ignore it, it doesn't work anyway...
#256
Well, it didn't take me very long (especially since I worked nonstop for three days and used a GUI I had already previously written), but nevertheless... Here is the completed game:

http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=837

I really hope everyone likes this, because I want to make a bigger game using this idea and I wanted to see how people liked this before I undertook a large-scale project... so please, post any and all comments and criticisms. If anyone would be interested in helping out with background art and music in the sequel, please drop me a line.

Alpha X is a first-person cyberpunk adventure. For more info and screenshots, look here:

enjoy  ;D

I thought I'd stop in and show the whole GUI in action. So, without further ado, el screenshot:

The monitor on the right is, obviously, inventory, and the monitor on the left allows you to scan objects in the room and to interact with them. The scanner option is presently up and focused on the light... however, I hadn't yet scanned the lights because I wanted to show another feature, which is the automatic scan of every room upon entry.

The "menu" button brings up the save, load, and quit options in another specialized window which I don't want to take the bandwidth (or, let's be truthful here, the time) to post.

p.s.: the glowing snake is a crowbar and the anime-style shoulder armor with the star design is your Bureau 6 badge.

Welps, I've been gone for quite a while, but I've decided to make a new game in AGS. Be introduced to the world of ALPHA-X.

You play as Rhys Dryden, a detective working in the drug investigation department of Bureau 6 in the year 2195. Your job is to track down users and dealers of the dangerous drug known as SMASH. Now, reports are coming in that Zeke Russell, the only SMASH dealer ever to give you the slip, has killed a member of your team, and it's time to bring him in for good. Investigate the seedy underbelly of Neo York City, uncovering the illicit ring of drugs, prostitution, and murder.

In the office of the chief getting your assignment.

The downtown scene in the old sector of Neo York.

Alpha-X: Project SMASH is actually the prequel to what I hope will be a much larger game with more features and a much deeper story.

Looks very nice, the first shot especially. It seems as though you're really giving the graphics more detail than in Secrets, but I hope  the story and humor quality will be intact. I'm eagerly awaiting the call to beta test it! YAY!

Erenan: hope you weren't writing a lengthy response because something I said offended you. I mean no offense by anything I said, even though the whole murder/cannibalization bit is a tad strong :P

Vince: You know how to say what I'm talking about better than I do, using quite a few less words. Of course, I mean precisely what you are saying. But again, the originator of the post mentioned he was torn between Christianity and a "right-hand" occultic path. There is no "Christianity" without the Bible, and thus it's obviously what one would study if that was what they wanted to know about. To defend my position about reading the bible instead of listening to preachers: I grew up in a Baptist home, and I went to Catholic school. I've been in Baptist, Catholic, Episcopalian, Lutheran, Methodist, Non-denominational, and Pentecostal services. They all say some things that coincide with the "book in question," but it's more a matter of picking and choosing what suits them. Most followers of a particular religion believe the religious leader and forget entirely to bother investigating the source material. So, to restate my original post, "If you want to be a Christian, don't choose a denomination and study the bible in light of what they want to say. If you think christianity is for you, go to the source of Christianity (the bible) and make sure it's something you want to believe." I would offer this same advice to someone no matter what spiritual path they chose to follow.

And you've got to remember... Sure, YOU know that things change, but books don't, but most people see black or white, forgetting the infinite spectrum of shades of grey between them, and follow the black and white of a scripture, person, or organization to the letter. That's why, at the end of the day, I make the saying in my signature the ultimate "scripture" in my life.
