JUST KIDDING, BUDDY!!!

Thanks to Robin Ferreira and his brilliant hosting and site design, we are online to kick ass! Hybrid Studios, formerly known as SQ3VGA team, with yours truly as a leader and art director, is starting to work on a brilliant, hires, 3D Space Quest III Remake! Okay guys, bye and see you at the site!

What?

OOH, my bad. I forgot to give ya all the link, silly me!

http://www.planetwilco.com

Bookmark it guys, you'll have to visit it again and again and again!

Phew. Finally we can rest. For a month or two.
That was a joke, of course, because as we speak, our brilliant artist (me) is doing work to fill the SQ3 media page! (oh, and create the actual game too)

Good news for us since that way the game will even been better. Any plans to release a playable demo of the canceled VGA version (just to kill time while we wait)?

What sort of size room files are you getting? How does the AGS compression compare to PCX?

AGS uses a GIF-style compression method, which should yield better results than PCX (though not as good as jpeg/png).

PNG or JPEG support for compressing backgrounds internally would probably be possible now; back when AGS was first written there were no decent libraries to do so, but times have changed. However, the current compression method shouldn't be too bad.

And what about the question made by scotch related to sprites? Since AGS suport GIF compression, is it possible to have the option to compress sprites in the exe? The default option should be "do not compress sprites" (good for slow computers). This could help a lot for HI-RES games.

I think i solve the problem. I was using PNG format. I must use PCX format to keep the palette order.

I need your help because i can't find the right solution on the forum/guides.

I want to use the command CyclePalette as used in Demo II Splash Screen.

I'm using paint shop pro 7. There i have a grat problem with the palette. When i open the image and convert to 8 bits, the colors i want to cycle are in position 31-66. But when i save the program removes from the pallette all color not used. So now i have some of those colors on the first position. Of course that when i import the picture to AGS (exact pal) colors change.

I think the problem is with the painting program. Is that right?
Other sugestions are welcome.

I have downloaded Proskritos's template? I'm thinking in making a fan game using one of the templates(this is not an an announcement). The template helps a lot, but there's still some things to add. Right now i'm adding to the template functions that show red lines in maps (like in indy4).

I think the template helped me a lot. But how usefull are those templates? Is anyone else making a game using Proskritos's templates?

Save games and sprites are not compressed for performance reasons -- so that save games load instantly, and because sprites are constantly loaded from disk throughout the game, compressing them would have an unwelcome performance hit.

Besides, with today's 80 GB hard drives, is a 1 MB save game file really a problem?

And if the sprites were stored in pcx (or other) format. Would this afect too much the performance?

Maybe we could also compress some resources (the sprites). I know that it is not made to allow the games to run on older computers. But this could be implemented as an option to the creator.

Lucasart's don't really care about fangames anymore. They certainly haven't shut one down since FOMI.

Of course a more likely explaination is that they don't know about them.

Yes that's true. And now Lucasarts canceled all adventure games (FT2 and Sam&Max2). But that doen't mean that they don't care about old games. The true is that they don't want to release any old game as freeware.

But maybe this year (after the release of Indy:FOA2 - http://amberfisharts.com/)we know Lucasarts position.

hq2x looks good, except that it only support 16-bit colour.

Why don't you use hq2x as option for 16-bit. I'm thinking in making a game in 320x240 to achieve a small file size, and i think that the game will look better with that graphic filter.

Note: This is only a sugestion.

I have another question related to this GUI: Can we release a game with Lucasarts GUI in the internet for free (I know the demo has Monkey2 GUI)? Will Lucasarts go after us until we remove the game for download?

I think that some graphic filtes (super2xsai, supereagle, hq2x,... ) as option could improve some 320x200 or 320x240 games. Will this be one future feature?
Should we contact the author?
Is it possible to put the graphic filter in our script?
