This looks promising. I'm neither fluent in Spanish nor an avid rpg-player, but I tried out the demo nonetheless. I talked to the people in the village, grabbed everything I could, which seems a bit odd...I could take bread and food from people's tables.

Outside of the village, I managed to rid the area surrounding a farm for pests, and I suspect I'm supposed to sell the snake skins to the apothecary later on, but I couldn't find a way to do it now. What I first thought was a spear or an arrow, I now think is a pen - I could use it to read a book in the Church/temple, otherwise I have found no use for it.

I discovered by trial and error that some keys have uses - I brings up the inventory, though I don't know if anything can be used yet except eating the food. V brings up a magic screen? Potion screen? And S brings up a place to rest, save the game and view stats. These stats ought to be visible somehow, if you can find a way to do it. I had no idea about my character's strength or stamina left and was killed by anything stronger than a skeleton. (Could be I'm just useless at this, or that I missed a vital clue in Spanish.)

Does the demo have a goal or a scripted ending?

I would like some instructions early on about which keys to use. (I apologize if it's there, but I haven't noticed.) I'll also recommend using graphic displays of the stats and have them be visible at all times, if you can pull it off. And I hope for an English version eventually, after you have finished the Spanish version.

Edit: Found the instructions about the I, V and S keys in the launcher, on one of the buttons I did not press the first time.
I also tried the pacifist approach to be able to view the whole area in the demo, and I managed to upset the gods enough to get -8 at Gods approval, but I have no idea what I did to upset them.  ???

I have played the demo several times now. I'll admit I am always a bit skeptical towards games where events happen in a sort of real time and you may miss them if you are not in the right place. However, I've played focusing on solving different problems, and this makes the games played quite varied. It looks good, animates extremely well, and the mechanics are well-oiled and easy to get the hang of. Perhaps you'll get a role player out of me yet. The story is also very well told, and the dream sequences are...odd. And scary. I eagerly await the full version, and I guess this may well be a hit in 2023.

Too bad that the demo was never entered into the database. Now it's impossible to nominate it for best demo of 2022. Which it may well be.

I played this one today and liked it a lot. It looks and sounds great, which really sets the mood, but it's all the bickering between the characters that sells me on the story, and some very nice puzzles that lift it up from the crowd. I wish the story was longer and wouldn't mind seeing Iggy again in the future. Well worth the cost. Now, I think I'll have a replay to see if a couple of those problems have an optional solution... ;)

Big congrats to ddavey/GOC Games! With that, he enters hall of fame with three consecutive wins in MAGS (I guess the shared victory in December counts). Last year, he won five MAGS competitions...can he possibly outdo himself and win even more this year? It's really, really impressive.

As for the game, I've already praised in the release thread and on the games page, but I'll add here that the game comes off as well researched and puts history, science and other disciplines together in a seamless package. There's a lot here for such a limited game. I also would like to compliment how the limitations of the game plays off naturally, and there's never a feeling that the game needs more than the three locations to tell the story. If there's one thing I was wondering about, it must be when the action is supposed to take place. I'm not familiar enough with sailships history to tell.

I played the game and must say I was delighted. It looks and sounds good, but most importantly, the puzzles are of that multiple-step-variety that is very satisfying to solve. Great game! It's a pity it looks like it will be the only entrant in January MAGS, as it probably will receive less feedback and fewer downloads as a result. But this, people, this is a good short game well worth playing.

I've started playing this, and it's looking good and different so far. I notice there is branching, so I wonder: how many endings are there? Probably a bit soon to think about, but I'd be surprised if there wasn't more than one, at least. Not asking for spoilers here, just if anyone knows the number of endings.

@sincaruk These games should now have working links. Thanks for the heads up.

Quote from: gabriel19681_1 on Sun 29/01/2023 14:03:29The download works for me, although it says: "File not downloaded potential security risk".

If you click download anyway, it downloads without problems.-
That is usually the case with me, too. But this time I got "Access denied" because of some admin network setting out of my control.

Edit: gabriel19681_1 But you gave me an idea for a workaround, and I now successfully downloaded it from a different computer with a different base network setup.  ;-D

I thought Bigfoot by Cogliostro and his son looked interesting, but I cannot download it, it seems. Does anyone have this?

Edit: Problem solved, thanks to Gabriel!

A probably unfinishable short training game is here: Gravity's Test Game

What is described as an interactive music video from another one of the Space Quest Historian's alter Egos, Error 47, is here: Zak the Maniac - an interactive music video It's a fun mix of Zak McKracken in the Maniac Mansion 35 years later, in an alternate dimension  where things didn't go well in the first place.

Perhaps not surprisingly, a game called Gravity's Test Game seems to not have an ending.

I've now finished the game, and I stand by my praise. The humour and satire doesn't pull any punches, though, so watch out.  8-0  :-D  I was especially delighted to finally find a Zappa allusion. I recommend this game to anyone who like extremely well written non pc humour and don't mind if the main character has a liberal relationship to intoxication and the well-being of others. It's definitely in my top 5 list of AGS releases last year.

Quote from: Joacim Andersson on Wed 25/01/2023 23:22:04It's been nearly 20 years since I last used AGS, and boy things have changed. But now that I've picked it up again and have some free time on my hands, I thought I would remake my very first game Melrin: The Disciple Ordeal since the original is not available anymore.

Best of luck with the project! But I wonder...the database page https://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/site/games/game/204-melrin-the-disciple-ordeal-updated-version-/ now directs to the ags depository at archive.org https://archive.org/details/Melrin_The_Disciple_Ordeal

Is this not the original?

Looking good. I just noticed...the Gothic Ps look a lot like Bs. I read "Bull" and "Bush".  :-[

I noticed today by accident that if you time out while rating a game, the comment field will show up unsigned on the db games page. When I signed back in at the forums and returned to the game page, the comment was there, but my votes/rating had not been registered.

Back in the MAGS April 2007 the theme was Unexpected, and there were 8 entries, including the famous Me Go Store. But four of the games were not added to the database. They can be found at the archive here:
Day of the Fish This one is short, but funny and well worth a try.
Cabbage Quest I instantly recognized the main theme song as an instrumental version of Frank Zappa's Zomby Woof. The rest of the game is delightfully and frustratingly weird. Thankfully, there are hints in the Mags thread.
Unexpected Quest seems to be a short game of juvenile humour.
West of the Root Wonder of wonders! This one also has a Zappa song as instrumental soundtrack: The Idiot Bastard Son. Aside from that, it's a straightforward short game with an exit almost impossible to find in one room. (Thankfully, you can CTRL-X out if you can't find the hotspot.)

Edit: It seems like the two Zappa soundtracks were no accident, as the two games were made by brothers, at first mistaken for the same person.

I'm currently playing this and have been doing so for some days.

I enjoy it very much. The humour is off-the-wall, both in puns and allusions and in how inappropriate bahviour seems to be the main character's normal mode of being.

First things first. The look is inspired by cartoons/comics, and the characters are antropomorphic animals. Frankly, I don't think it would have been easy to get away with some of the humour if the characters were more human in appearance. Animation is a bit limited, but with plenty of funny bits. It gets the work done. The characters and backgrounds are instantly recognizable and it's easy to spot the interactive spots. There's an appropriate original soundtrack, in addition to different tunes from the musicians in the game and a jukebox.

The story, then.
Quote from: grizzlypants on Thu 28/04/2022 10:21:25Adult content warning: Contains scenes of cartoon violence, including blood and death. There are also instances of strong language, alcohol and drug use, and sexual innuendo.
The warning is appropriate. The lengths to which Ted (the main character) will go to in order to get his band back together, know absolutely no bounds. It doesn't matter who else get hurt, how much property damage there is, or how much and whose money is spent. In fact, the implied body count is pretty huge. This may be a turnoff for some players, but it's presented in a funny way, so I'm all in. In fact, I almost assess any situation using opposite logic: What would I have done? Then make Teddy do the opposite.

I've been laughing a lot. The story is ridiculous in itself, the puzzles are great, but do use their own special logic that won't apply in real life. And there's strewn funny bits all over. I expected quotes and allusions to movies and rock lyrics, but there are also stuff from Shakespeare, modern poetry and more. And the puns come quicker than you may grasp them. My favourite pun so far:
Spoiler
In a cemetery, there's a skull and some bones lying around. Ted remarks something like "I wonder if they still have plans to bury the body"..."Remains to be seen."  (laugh)
[close]

My favourite character probably isn't Ted, but it comes close between Leo, the singer with an unhealthy apetite for hot dogs, the "Guy on a Date" background character that turns into a running gag through all his dates gone wrong, and my favourite: Bob Dog (whose name may be a reference to Swedish band Bob Hund?) who constantly tries to make it in the food/hot dog stand business despite all his ventures being destroyed by Ted's actions.

The story has its twists and turns, so I have no idea how much remains of the game before I'm through. You always get clear goals, and I haven't wondered what to do next so far, although some of the puzzles take their time. It's not exactly difficult, but not quite straightforward either. There are a few logic puzzle minigames, like a Tower of Hanoi minigame with music studio tapes, but these may be skipped if the player don't fancy playing them.

I'm off to the nominations page now, nominating Bob Dog for best character and the game in the best puzzles, best music and best writing categories. While it may not be the best game this year, it's certainly up there.
