A passing thought that allowing RoN assets in any Monthly Mags competition might increase participation, as well as make more folks aware of the RoN assets. I've always thought/felt that, unless it was specifically a RoN anniversary game, using RoN assets violated the MAGS rules.

Got the original Mount and Blade game from Steam. It was on sale, at that time, for less than five bucks, US, and I've been spending a ungodly amount of time playing it. Any M&B fans around here? I've tried to get cassieBSG to try the game, but she's been busy entering MAGS, or knitting socks for Tabata's Coloring Ball. Like to hear your thoughts on the game?

An entry, but doesn't really meet much of the stated criteria. Skippy, the Mud Skipper, taking his pet for a walk.

Or, maybe it's just his lunch.

Modeled in Anim8or. Gif file made with GIMP.

Cool jwalt, another nice interactive movie. Have a feeling you enjoy writing more than puzzling... ;)

Made another Spoons Music Video:

http://www.mediafire.com/file/hku1yxjo16qiood/walkRoNgyptian.zip

Wanted to see how some stuff I've been working on looked "in game." A little RoN line dancing, as it were. Pay no attention to there being two Nick Linders in the video.

Happy Birthday, Waheela. She doesn't seem to be active, here, anymore, sadly. Still have that gif she posted, and it still has the same effect on me as Chicky's avatar, if I watch either one of them for too long. Hope she is well, and prosperous in whatever she is doing!

Thanks for the encouraging comments. They always help.

The abandoned disco I tried to model was found via Google Images. Looks to be a fascinating place. Also this, which I had to find a way to get into the game:

@SilverSpook - what I have in mind for the rest of the game relies heavily on RoN background assets, so it will have a different look.

@Chicky - I'll look into fixing the things you mentioned. One was already on my to-do list, but hadn't noticed the dialogue issues.

Demo is available:

For now, you can safely ignore the inventory section of the menu bar. I'm also not sure it is unbreakable, but it has seemed stable on my attempts at playing through the game. Shouldn't take very long. Uses Ghost's BASS template, so right click/look and left click/interact. Not happy with the Disco Globe at the moment. Will have to figure out something better.

Punk Allen doesn't like Disco on general principles, and he really hates the Disco Monkeys. In return, they don't much like him, either.

Not overjoyed with my monkeys, and I don't have their side views, yet, but they may have to do.

I've decided to tackle another RoN game.

Templeton Tjin will be the predominant player character. He is taking a tour of RoN's defunct Cairo Disco with Maria Scotterson, of Cloudy Day Realty. Meanwhile, back at Tjin's museum... Stay tuned.

Here are two screen shots:

Game will be a combination of RoN 2D assets and my 3D Anim8or models. Although I've gotten some good Critic's Lounge suggestions about making them look better together, I'm not sure I'll make many changes to what I currently have.

Progress is hard to judge. RoN assets mean a lot of the character art is ready made, and I have most of the current background under control. So maybe:

- graphics 60%
- puzzles 10%
- scripting 10%
- music/sound 10%

Edit: Have a Demo of one portion available.

https://www.mediafire.com/?35esb7d4h6h8amc

Ignore the Inventory section of the menu bar, for now. It will handle that on its own. Also, I'm not sure it's isn't breakable, but it has seem well behaved on my attempts at playing it. Not very happy with the Disco Globe at the moment. Have to fix it, one way or another.

There is another section of the game, yet to be made. It covers the stuff happening outside The Cairo Disco.

Edit: Decided to cobble together another Spoons Music Video. Bit bloated, size wise, and Nick Linders is able to be in two places at the same time. Really just wanted to see how a couple of things looked "in game."

General thank you to everyone for the comments, and a special thank you to Gurok for the paint over (and the two hours you'll never get back :P).

Here's the source image I based it on:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/john_coffee/6166824940

You'll note the actual image has a chair by one of the tables. The bar is higher, and the stools are meant for the bar. Looks like I should raise the bar and the stools, doesn't it.

Thanks, again!

Some screen shots related to a possible RoN game:

Elandra may not be in the game, but I had her walkcycle handy, so stuck her in the scenes.

These are a mix of 2D characters and my 3D modeled environments (modeled with Anim8or, and rendered in Bryce). Not sure how grating this is. Open to comments.

I deleted one frame and messed around with the walker size. Not much, but maybe it helps.

That one frame didn't really seem to be doing much of anything, so thanks! Been trying some things "in game:"

And this:

Not really a game. Just goofing around. Might become one.

Edit Feb 15, 2017:

Decided to try just the walker, alone:

Also, I needed an abandoned disco. Found a neat picture with Google. Fired Anim8or up to model. Rendered in Bryce. Screen shot from my nebulous game:

There's something about that walker animation that just looks like he's stretching the walker out and making it wider. Maybe adding an extra pixel to the widths of the walker might help. :-\

As for the Egyptian mask, that thing is very creepy. So it's perfect. :-D

Tried the extra pixel route, and I didn't like the way that looked, either. I'll keep playing around with it. After the fact, I should say it finally dawned on me what AnasAbdin was driving at when he talked about the walker legs and his feet being at the same level. Just me, being dense.

Took a try at AnasAbdin's suggestion:

Also need something with an Egyptian mask installing itself on one of the character's heads:

Had a thought about another possible RoN game. Might need a Museum Guard. Based on Mr. Pickles, in a different suit/uniform. Five frames.

I realize the two sides views are going to be harder, since it's nonsymmetrical. Just goofing around, but open to comments. I know the hands usually grasp the sides of the walkers, but this was easier. Anyone familiar enough with the RoN Museum to know if they already have a guard?

Nope, I didn't catch the mugger. Somehow I managed to skip that whole part of the game. (laugh)

So, no mugger... Then you haven't found all of the words in the game, yet. Finding the mugger was kind of an afterthought. Not sure Grundislav and 304 would call it a fair puzzle, or a logical one. Cassie knows where the switch is, but that's about where I put her to sleep, I think.

Congratulations on finally releasing it.
I played it. Other than a tiny bug when I exited a conversation early which meant I had to repeat the whole conversation, the game ran perfectly.
Although the dialog... SO MUCH DIALOG!!! 8-0

Yeah, sorry about the dialog. Put CassieBSG to sleep a few nights ago.  ;-)  Did you play one of the betas, or was the problem with the conversation in this release? I thought I had either corrected the ones I'd found, or left dialog options on, so it could be worked around, if necessary. Did you catch the mugger?

Thanks, Cassie, for all your effort! And thanks, Danvzare for taking the time to read all those words!

Completed Game Announcements / Spoons III

CassieBSG is still beta testing for me, but this may have reached the point of either releasing the game, or pitching it into the trash. I'm risking releasing it.

RoN game, that derives from Irishrichy's game: The Spoons, and Brentimous' game Rock - A True Story. RoN's rock group, The Spoons, figures prominently in both games. I tried to bridge the gap between the two games, and offer clues to what happened in "the lost game," Spoons II.

At one point in time, this was fully unauthorized, but Irishrichy responded, unexpectedly, to a PM. So it, kind of, sort of, is authorized. Irishrichy even provided a sprite he'd made, which I have included in my game.

Link to game:

I suggest you play this one in a window, since it is mostly cut scenes. The escape routes available to you in full screen mode are pretty limited. I've also had issues with the midi pieces I used being about as pleasant as fingernails on a chalk board, but not consistent enough to figure out why they go so out of tune. In windowed mode, you have the ability to shut off the speakers and save your sanity.

Screen shots, above, are from the Demo game, but are still part of this release. The Demo game became the intro to the full game. I've also included The Spoons Music Video, here, as well.

Edit: After the fact, I thought some additional links might be in order, here:

The waiter and Athena (hope it's better now Jwalt? ;) ).

Both look great to me. My complaint about Athena was never about the modeling, just about the shadow beneath her chin, which is now gone. :-)

New beta released for testing:

https://www.mediafire.com/?p9cdy8huqjk111w

Known issues:
1.  Problem with two of the midi pieces. They sound horrid, in parts. Trying to track this down. Not sure what's causing it. They sound fine in Windows Media Player. They sound fine in the AGS Editor player. But they go wonky in the game.
2.  For testing, you might find a saved game useful before you talk to anyone at Scid's on the Beach,
3.  Seem to have developed some quicksand on Josh's Beach (one with the Changing Cabana). Get stuck in a loop between the ocean and the shore. You can get out of the loop by clicking on the cabana, or Josh. Here, again, I'm not sure what's causing this.
4.  Have had intermittent problems getting the bikini. This is a game killer, when/if it happens. Not seeing why this happens? Very inconsistent bug.
3.  For testing, you may want to play in a window. Game is mostly cut scenes, and you can't reach the menu bar all that often.
