@RI, regarding Jackie's new job -- something strange going on here. Spooky.

Irishrichy, according to his profile, was last active in 2009. Similarly, Brentimous was last active in 2010.

Irishrichy made the following post:

http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=37781.msg496581#msg496581

It lays out his vision for Spoons III. (Spoons II was to be a "lost game.") It's a fairly well constructed "outline." Been wading around the web, way past my bedtime, and, in my sleep deprived state, beginning to wonder if Brentimous' Doh-mii could be David Bowie? If David Bowie was the musician who signed The Spoons to their record contract, in view of Bowie's recent death, it would make a suitable lead-in to RoN-Rock, effectively connecting the two stories (before and after his death). I noted Let's Dance was the song The Spoons mangled, and resulted in Doh-mii's rant near the end of Rock.

Irishrichy asks about a celebrity as a minor character. He mentions thinking about running with Brentimous' idea of Richy as a "pederast" (Doh-mii actually said pedophile). I note that Michael Jackson dies in 2009, which opens up some possibilities along the lines of a companion for Dead Bill Cosby as well as someone that only Richy can see as a result of the mugging. (I make no judgement of Michael's guilt or innoncence -- just sayin'.)

Irishrichy had a secondary concern to explain Scid's Bar on the Beach and how George Watstatts could be in two places at the same time. How about: he's got a twin brother Arnold Watstatts (identical down to the stains on the apron -- clever reuse of sprites, as well).

Don't know who Irishrichy planned as the player character, but I'd like to do something with Jackie. In view of the mugging of Richy, she might fit the bill. I'm wondering what is the proper protocol for running with someone else's ball, as it were?

Edit: Been thinking about what Scid's at the Beach might look like:

Rough idea, so it's just a jpg image.

Like Retro Wolf said, there's nothing stopping you from simply ignoring the canon.
Personally though, I think nuking the canon would be a bad idea, since people will no doubt be attached to it. A better idea would be to create a whole new RoN type series. Although that might be a bit difficult to do in terms of assets.

I've run into a little Spoon conundrum. While trying to educate myself about The Spoons, I found a discussion about canon/non canon games already on the boards. I'll have to read through it (them) unless RI has a condensed version available.

If interested, my Spoon conundrum involves a discrepancy in who plays drums in the band. Spoons indicates Nick Landers is lead vocal and drums, with Chris Furlong on guitar. Rock has Chris on the drums, and Nick Landers standing in front of the band with nothing in his hands. Spoons (apparently like Rock) was a trilogy that doesn't appear to have been finished. Spoons II was intended to be a "lost game." Fairly detailed layout for Spoons III on the boards.

In a way, the games represent the different approaches mentioned. Spoons stays with reasonable actors. Rock involves a pirate, Mr Pickles, and Death. Both were interesting enough games, but Spoons requires less bending of reality.

It bumps into some pretty strange things: a Zombie mayor, Death as a political advisor and sand castle afficianado, a pistol packing chicken, aliens... There is a place for stories involving them, and I guess I could just avoid using them, but seems to rub folks wrong if it goes too far off-canon. In the OSD universe, alternate realities seem acceptable, but they're weirdos, anyway. ;)

Just played Spoons and Ron-Rock as research into Jackie Furlong. Didn't see anything that indicated she worked at Dominatrix, so I guess I gave her a job, whether she wanted one other than musician with The Spoons, or not. Found the Ron-Rock game very interesting. Doesn't appear to have completed the series it had in mind, unfortunately. Worth a look.

Is there a TV Station? I've encountered what appears to be a radio staion K-YATZ. Just asking, 'cause I don't know.

I tried for another Music Video using the RoN assets.

Link:

Guess it's okay, if you don't mind peanut butter on the roof of their mouths to get their lips moving.  (roll)

Odd ball question: Did the original intent of RoN actually involve a canon, or any sort? I initially thought it was offering up a group of "actors" that non-artistic folk, like me, could use to build games and tell stories. Seems like the "canon" is interfering with that, now. I'm not up to speed on the canon, and since some of the games are no longer around/runnable, there will always be holes in my RoN universe. I think, maybe, we should fire RoN's canon, and begin treating the assets as assets.

I'd signed on to help Cassie by modeling 3D things like pots and pans. She's been fiarly easy to get along with, until she asked for a specific axe. Took several tries to get it past her quality control, and I am now wondering if this might be an indication that Starbuck's date doesn't end well.  (laugh)

I took the Muffin Diver for a spin. Enjoyable.

@ DarkWater

I tried Home Sweet Ron, but got dumped back to the desktop when Elandra clicked on the Pizza Boxes in Dominatrix Pizza. Says no such function in Script for hPizzaBoxes_interact. I didn't verify a consistent error, but suspect it is probably going to be one.

Edit: Completed Home Sweet RoN. Very enjoyable, entertaining, and instructive.

Sorry about the slow walking Bum in my game.

@Jwalt - is the link above your final version?

Only one version of "my game." Several versions of the music video, which is not an entry. Sorry for any confusion.

- 3D art - Anything you might wish to help  with is just fine! Even if it's just a Languatron! :p

Had to look it up on the web:

Be aware that getting a rigged model out of Anim8or can be problematic, and Anim8or seems to be the only thing on the planet that makes sense to me. No problems with obj or 3ds, just with the bones and animation. Hopefully all you might need are the sequences of stills. I'm willing to help, but my skill set isn't all that hot. Nor is my attention span much longer than a gnat's. I can, however, provide you a languatron with the newer, rubbery buttons, as well as the older model.

/**/ is already supported in normal scripts, but I do not remember about dialog scripts.

Just played with it, and indented, it looks like the block delimiters will also work in dialog. Didn't compile it, but it changes the color of the lines between them. I appreciate the info. Thanks.

Edit: I notice a couple of calls, in Noto's code (35, 42), to other dialogs without the goto stuff. Are his calls an alternate way to do it?

Edit2: I'm getting suspicious about the comment in line 76. It may need to be indented like the script commands are. Might be wrong, and probably should be keeping my mouth shut about stuff I know next to nothing about.

I'm curious about the color change following his apostrophes? I'm not seeing that in my one and only dialog tree. It almost looks like it's seeing those as comments?

Crimson, is it worth asking for a block comment delimiter (as in /* and */ )? It would help tracking down lines with problems. Or is there already something that comments out a bunch of code without the // before every line?

My apologies, I accidentally destroyed the db entry for your game and tried to restore it but got a page expired. Please do put it back in there and sorry again for causing this problem.

I put it back up. Also added the other game, Luther in the Hood, but it is showing up twice (under the same number). Must have done something wrong, or it is my nefarious plan for getting even.  ;-)  Can you fix?

Messed around a bit more with that music video using the RoN assets. Not sure if I made it better, or worse. Mostly, it remains the same:

Edit: Working on another modification to this. I've got the rabbit doing some stuff. Working on timing the rabbit's actions at the moment.

Edit 2: Updated link. Rabbit timing still an issue, but off and on, it works like I wanted it to. Not nearly as fond of the song as I was before I launched into this project.  ;)

So, in another thread, someone who shall remain nameless (Cassie) suggested that, since beaucoup amount of time remains, I should work more on my movie, adding puzzles/locations/characters, turning it into, well, an actual game. I tried; I really did. I dutifully opened the file and made -- a music video. Sorry, nameless person (Cassie). I'm just hopeless, it appears.

Edit: revised the original version. Newer one:

I don't want to talk to lawyers, so I'm not going to leave this up in perpetuity. It was fun to do, and I'm a bit surprised at how often, without any scripting on my part, the followers will take a look at the cute, fuzzy little bunny in the window. If my pixeling skills were up to it (they are not), I'd love to give the bunny a carrotnet and fire the animation, at the appropriate moment, when the song reaches that instrumental interlude.

This isn't another entry, just something that gave me a chuckle while doing it. Your response may be different.

Edit: Managed to get the rabbit to do something, so updated the link.

Downloading... :)
Not you do know that there's still plenty of time, you could use this time into implementing some gaming features and puzzles.

Either will give it a try right now. :)

I may try to do more with it. I'd have to rethink a few of the booleans I'm using to control things. Also, The Bum may not have been the best choice in main character, since, if my take on the canon is correct, he never makes a great deal of sense, anyway. My attention span, anymore, seems to limit the amount of time I spend interested in a project. But thanks for taking a look.

Jwalt, when I can't think of a name early on I just save the game as template then start a new project using that template as a basis.

Seems an excellent suggestion. I'll give it a try. Thanks!

I went to play the game and it was in a resolution my PC couldn't handle. No problem, I'll just use the “winsetup.exe” to adjust it, but unfortunately it errors and says, “unable to launch Feb16Mags.exe” :(
But the only other exe in the folder is "BoogieBum.exe" :-\

Change the name of the BoogieBum.exe (right click and rename it). It began life as Feb16Mags.exe. I appear to have naming issues. An appropriate title doesn't seem to come to me until I've spent some time with the game.

Sticking a fork in this, even though a lot of the month remains.

Can you help The Bum find Roger? Still more movie than game, but reached a point of diminishing returns on the project.

A game using RoN assets and intended as an entry in the Feb 2016 MAGS competition. Can you help The Bum find Roger?

This game turned out more movie than actual game, but posting it anyway. Short game, set in the RoN universe. I used Ghost's BASS template.
