Completed Game Announcements / Bolt Action
Tue 31/07/2012 14:28:42

I've managed to beat the feature creep monster and finally finish (barring a version 1.1 if needed for fixes or something) my first game!  A few years ago I got the idea that it would be pretty funny if a hero was trying to save the planet while everyone else cowers and/or cracks wise.  It has taken quite a while to finish what is basically a one-room game, though this is partly due to development centering around having fun moreso than buckling down with deadlines.  Anyway, enjoy!

One genetically designed man along with an inept, insulting, and cowardly scientist must save the World from his evil twin brother and hordes of zombies!

Features:

  • Zombie blastin' action
  • A deep, emotional backstory that rivals the classic works of...Ok scratch that one
  • Variety of weapons
  • Ungrateful innocent civilians
  • Chuckle inducing mad scientist
  • Zombie piledrivers

Thanks to Pinback for his stunning background, Ponch for patiently testing, and SSH for making some awesome modules!

After Microsoft shat out Windows ME, I stopped being an early adopter of their operating systems.

On the subject of Windows 8...I feel like I'm the only person who hates touch screens these days.  It drives me crazy putting fingerprints all over what I'm also using as a monitor.

Along with the above mentioned games, I'd add Time Gentleman, Please!.

I know this is a serious thread, but it's a testament to the maturity of the forums that no one has drawn attention to this sentence:

I can count the number of comedians who can pull it off on one hand.

I was so wrapped up in the topic that it didn't even register.  Its true though, most comedians use two hands.

I just noticed I have extra copies of some games on Steam...If anyone wants free copies of Half Life 2 and Half Life 2 Episode 1 let me know.  Just give me your Steam handle.  I also have Duke Nukem Forever.  I only have one of each, so first come first serve.

I'm for a PC world when it helps shut the racists up, and I'm against a PC world if it means we can no longer have frank discussions about race and/or cultures.

When it comes to yucks, I agree that edgy comedy has gone downhill in recent years and really has become lazy.  I can count the number of comedians who can pull it off on one hand.

I second the vote on reviving that mini-golf game.  It looks like fun, and pretty original for the AGS universe.

I'm with you in that rape jokes can be funny, just like really any topic can be, in the hands up a capable comedian.  The only problem I have with rape jokes is that too many comedians are relying on it these days for shock factor; in podcasts moreso than in their standup act.  So its now becoming a bit unoriginal.

On the offensiveness...I'm in the camp that only really unfunny jokes have the potential to be offensive.  Louis C.K. and Chris Rock are geniuses that can make anything funny, and both have covered every kind of taboo topic on the planet without too much real-deal controversy outside of the easily outraged people that gasp at anything and aren't smart enough to understand context.  Whereas you have lesser standups, Tracy Morgan (the lame gay joke), Michael Richards (rant against hecklers), etc...that get in trouble simply because their stuff isn't funny.  And if it doesn't get laughs, then people assume it must be mean spirited and then its in the news.  I think to be able to pull off rape, race, and other edgier jokes you have to be a talented comedian or else people can take it the wrong way.  I myself don't take it the wrong way unless its obvious a standup is breaking DDQ's "Don't be a dick" rule and going after non-hecklers.

Good job capturing the mid-to-late 90s webpage style Ponch. :)  Brings back horrible, horrible memories.

Come and See
Happiness

Its funny, I love "Come and See" as much as I disliked "Happiness" (yes I know its critically acclaimed and the director has an impressive overall body of work).  The former is one of the best war movies I've ever seen.  Everything about "Come and See" was ahead of it's time, especially the use of sound.

This sounds like an original idea.  I don't think I've played an adventure game that stars a cantankerous old dude.

Cutest AGS screenshots I've ever seen.  Good luck with this one!

I think there is a difference between what Ben is explaining regarding his early projects and their submission for critique and/or pats on the back on the forum, and a full on attention whore who craps out buggy alpha version training games and continually pesters everyone about them.  I try to ignore the latter, though luckily there really is only a few of those folks on this board and on the bright side sometimes the output (screenshots, characters, etc..) from the games can be entertaining.

We always do that "kids these days" thing.  I don't think its generational.

Just bought the digital version, and will have time to play next month.  Looking forward to checking it out, as it looks like a ton of effort went into this one.

Sounds great (nod).  I'll be taking you up on this offer soon.
