Wow - I thoroughly enjoyed playing this game. Graphics were great and the puzzles aimed just right :) I can't wait to findout what Nelly is going to be up to next!

Great Job!

Simon the sorceror

Full throttle

Monkey Island

Discworld (this one sticks in my mind not only because I am a fan of Pratchett but also because I remember playing it one xmas whilst staying in a council flat (while my house was being rebuilt...don't ask.. it was traumatic...) - I went to make a cup of coffee and left the game running. After a while someone knocked on the window, which was odd since it was a second floor flat... Tap tap "... hello..." I checked the window Tap tap ".....heeeellooooo....." - I thought I was going mad.... then I walked past the computer and there was Rincewind tapping on the monitor trying to catch my attention.....)

Gabriel Knight - What can I say but...  Wow!

1. Bards Tale (spent many sleepless nights playing this one...boy was I addicted...)
2. Elite (was no good at space ship games so my fella would be the pilot and I'd be the merchant - if I hear the Blue Danube now I only have to close my eyes to see those wire frame graphics... sigh...)
3. Civilisation
4. Simon the Sorceror
5. Any SSI/TSR D&D rpg

I am not great at perspective but it looks ok - what might be throwing you off is the colour of the top third of the wall - it is the same as the floor which I think is effectively tricking the eye into thinking 'this is where the ceiling starts' - leading the viewer to believe that the room is low(see comments below) - then you are left wondering why there is a blue square hovering in the middle?

It works like a charm and was exactly what I wanted ... you are a star!

I struggle with walking animations too - so I can't help you there but ....

I really liked your first version - he looked mopey and the head had a certain charm about it - kinda reminded me of Rugrats. Your latest version seems to have lost both these things - he looks like the school bully and he has lost that... unique style.

Now a subject I can talk about :D

Bartimaeus I like your sketches (although I love Josh Kirby's art Kidby does have a good grasp of the characters Pratchett creates) The second one seems much more polished than the first - now let me guess.... he's from the watch and too young to be Vimes so it has to be Carrot?

Having said that I would like to see where you can go with the sketch of Vetinari... to give you an idea of his character he is cold and calculating always one step ahead of the game - he runs the city with an iron fist. One arch of an eyebrow would be enough to strike terror into the heart of any citizen who'd forgotten to put the bins out...

A thought about the path - as it is a small outhouse the path seems too 'constructed' it might look more natural if it were a trodden path through the grass rather than the built one you have there...

he is looking good and I thought gangs of new york when I saw him too - would love to see a game with him in it...

As far as the pose goes I have a few thoughts for you

Hand on hip - Showing five digits (four fingers one thumb) which is very unnatural try placing the thumb (top digit) behind the body. Also the coat hangs straight down which means he is holding the hand away from the body which will make him seem rigid.

Silly tip - I tend to stand up and strike the pose that I give the character, if it feels wrong then I adjust the pose accordingly...  try to stand like you have painted him... notice how odd it feels...

What an interesting idea - I like the blending of the two very different media.

However I agree with Babar that it looks wrong because the perspective is 'off' - it would work if you matched the 'camera angle' in the foreground to mimic the angle in the background (or vice versa)

Your voice sounds fine - the lines are delivered a little flat but I am guessing the guy is a bit in shock after what happened so it works :)

I think the hair makes him look elvis-y for a couple of different reasons.

colour - try changing it to a brown or red
sideburns - they are quite low just how elvis liked them... moving them up will help if you don't want to get rid of them
quiff - again a very elvis thing you could play around with partings rather than a quiff...

A few good suggestions thanka guys I'll give them a go :) - am using photoshop if that helps...

Anyway I've been working on another view of the caveman [front] if you would like to have a look - again I am open to any and all crits, suggestions and help... which I I have a feeling I need now since I am not quite as happy with how he turned out.

thanks LJUBI but I would like to shrink the sprite anyway - there must be a way to do it without the funny edge problem....??

simple walk animation

I know it's rough but I am not sure how to do it better (am working with imageready)..

Also I am having trouble with the size of the sprite - I would like to shrink it by 50% but when I do it screws up the clean outline and makes an ugly white border around the image - any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Guys

Babar: you made me feel good about my pic - even though its not perfect, I did work real hard at it... *beams all proudly* and yes I wasn't sure about that outline.. I think you are right it makes it look odd.

ProgZmax: Thanks for the suggestions - taken on board and changes made although I did struggle with the digits (hand and foot) and will probably fiddle with them some more.

How does it look now?

Oh and while I am here I might as well add in the left facing version too...

I would still appreciate any crits you can throw at me :D in the meantime I am going to try to figure out how to animate him...

Critics' Lounge / caveman sprite for C&C

Hi there,

I am new to the forum as a member but have been lurking around for a while whilst  I am learning how to use AGS.

Anyhoo - I finally feel confident enough to tackle making a small game and have done lots of planning... however my artistic ability leaves a lot to be desired...lol

I would appreciate c&c on my first effort at a sprite.

ta..  :)
