Hints & Tips / Re: Merlin: First Game
Mon 29/11/2004 07:55:40
Alright, I am so very stuck in Melrin: The Disciples Ordeal.

I have all the ingrediants to make the levitation spell, and have tried *everything* to combine them.Ã,  The game just keeps saying "I don't want to combine those two items" or "I don't want to put that in the bowl."Ã,  It's obvious there is some little trick or step that I'm just not getting.Ã,  ???Ã,  I hope it's not a bug, as I've noticed there are some glitches (at least for me).Ã,  Like when I have to use the orb that turn stone into metal, I need to click the ladder on the stone object for it to work.Ã,  :-X

Edit: Okay I think it was a bug/glitch.  Apparently, I couldn't combine items when I pressed tab to bring up inventory.  Only when I placed my cursor on the top of the screen to bring up inventory could I combine ingredients.  Strange, but I'm glad I figured a way around it.  :=

Good to hear about HOTU giving you guys some pub.  Very well deserved.  Two of a Kind was a pleasure to play.  A few hard puzzles, nothing too hard though.  Always interesting to get the chance to play as two different characters in the same game.

One minor quibble, really not even an issue.  At the end of the game I had the twins talk to each other and when I selected "What should we do?" the other answered back "Let's explore the mansion some more."  Eh, good advice except the ability to go back to the mansion at this point is nil.  :P  Other than that, a few spelling errors, the game was just about perfect.  ;D

Oh cool, thanks :) I'm glad you guys liked the style, so I guess I'll try to find a happy balance between the two, try to create a style that is not sooo blur/unfocused but also try to make it different from the others. I'll also try to make the characters darker to blend in with the background. I've already have a sequel mapped out and I'm going to revamp the whole interface and use a Lucas Arts style with the status bar, I think that would help identify hotspots faster especially with the unfocused style that I'm using for the backgrounds.

Hello, just finished your game. Ã, Really quite well done! Ã, Two of the puzzles had me stumped. Ã, I had to check this forum to get the answer to one of them. Ã, I think it would be a great idea if you could incorporate a feature to display the name of an object the cursor is currently over. Ã, That way, you can continue to utilize your unique "blurred" graphic style (which I think is nice too) and give the user a little more direction on which objects can be interacted with. Ã, :D

For what it's worth, I was never able to finish this game.

Spoiler
Whenever I gave the guy the wooden hand with wallpaper wrapped around it, he said here's a cinema ticket.  However, the ticket never appeared in my inventory.  I tried switching up the order I did things in, trying to get the ticket right away or right at the end.  No matter what, the swine never actually gave me the ticket.

This game had its moments, but could use some polish.  Not bad for a first effort though!

This is an excellent AGS game in my opinion.  Sure, the plot gets convoluted near the end, but that is my only complaint.  I thought the graphics were great.  Sound and music awesome, the intro was great too!  Really an amazing effort.  I highly encourage your group to begin work on your next game right now!  :P

Also, hitting that kid in the head (isn't he all head?) with a shovel was your choice, you could've finished the game without knocking him out, or even ruining his sand castle! Shame on you!

Haha, that was the funniest part of the game for me.  Wonder how many people just automatically trampled the poor tyke's sand castle and then wacked him with a shovel just because?  :P

Hi Tina,

If you look at the lasers closely while you are parachuting down, there are some spots that are wider than others.  Guide the parachute to one of these larger squares and you should be fine.

Are you using the link from Klaus' signature?

Yes I am...it's bizarre!  I guess I should ask my ISP why they won't let me view this website.  ???

Thanks for the hint!  8)  I also had to start over since I had picked up the water, mushroom, and compost before I needed to.  The game wouldn't let me plant the seeds once I had done that.

Overall I found this to be a cute game, if a bit rough around the edges.  Some good ideas at work, that's for sure!  Combining the seeds was unique.  I didn't find the arcade game too bad once I got the hang of it.  Sometimes it wouldn't let me use the space bar though to lay the mines.  Whenever that happened, I had to exit the arcade game and then replay it.

Alright, I must say that this game is cool and confusing at the same time.  I talked to the dead bird and beat his/her high score of GBE, scoring a 210.  However, I still can't get the seed!  Talking to it again just brings up old dialogue options.  Did I miss anything, or is this a bug?  One thing that may be missing is I can't take the batteries out of the radio.  I've tried everything, but the game won't let me do it.  :-\

Heh, very nice effort for everyone involved in "The Hamlet."  I liked the graphics, the way the houses looked a bit tattered and abandoned.  Sure, the game is short, but it has a lot of atmosphere.  ;D

martin, at the end of the game:

Spoiler
try hiding in the barn.  Look for an object that you can hide yourself with.  Also, notice where the man is standing.  ;)

Sinitrena,

Just finished playing through your game.  Overall I thought you did a nice job.  I also liked "A Magic Stone."  The puzzles in both games were on the easy side, but that is fine by me.

Curious about the ending to James Bond game:

Spoiler
Is there a way to blow up Clawman's base as well as kill Clawman?  I wasn't able to find a way to kill him.

Is it just me, or is the MAGS website down?  I haven't been able to connect to it for the past several months now.   ???

Heh, no I never did find the guru.  I had no idea that one could go north from that screen you described.  It must be tough to do because I know I've tried walking through what looks like a hole in the wall. <shrugs>

As to your wondering about what exactly is the end of the game, you may be right.  Who knows!  Unless there is another random area to get to that neither one of us has found, I'm in agreement with you that the game is over.

Thanks for getting back to me!

Hints & Tips / Anyone played "What is that?"
Wed 22/09/2004 03:59:05
Hi, just curious to see if anyone else has played this game that was posted to this site a little while back?  I'm stuck and out of things to try.  To be honest, there aren't that many inventory items nor active objects to use them on.  Any help would be great.  8)

Right now I have a transmitter and need to find a hard hat (I'm guessing).

I really liked this game as well.  I thought the pacing was fine, and the difficulty ramped up well as the game moved through the days.  I admit I had no clue how to escape from Barry when he was chasing me the first time, but other than that, I liked the puzzles.  Very very nice game!

Someone knows how to get the secret/bonus puzzle?
There is reference to it above in this thread. you'll be able to interact with something that earlier in the game it was impossible.
The lump of clay "smells kind of funny". Pib has to use "purest elements possible". There is mud on the track.
So - is it possible to get mud and use it for the golem instead of the not so pure clay?

Is this true regarding the mud?  I've tried to pick it up both before and after the race, but with no luck.   ???

Sounds like you guys have made more progress than I have.  Sounds like finding the Abbot's book is something I totally missed the first time I tried playing this game.  ;D

Thanks Scotch for replying.  I still can't figure out the puzzle, but I'll come back to it again I'm sure.  8)  Maybe I'll have an epiphany.
