what's your game about mark billy? that blue figure looks like an alien of some kind

It's not alien, it's human. Just floating in the cylinder (a bit like a bacta tank from Star Wars). I hope this conveys well actually, the purple might be a bit much. Maybe I should reduce the purple tint on the character?

ProgZ: I like your edit lots, actually. I've just finished doing some lights all down the corridor, but it doesn't maintain the mood as well as yours does. Love the door signs too!

Here's the edit:

What do people think? Does ProgZ's edit work better?

Thanks for the critique everyone!

@Andorxor: I like the little screens, that's a great idea. I'm just working of the lights at the moment, then I'll add some screens that are consistent with the computer behind the window.

@Jakerpot: Rust wouldn't really fit. I see what you are saying though about texture. I'm adding some light sources and with this some shadow. This should achieve the texture, hopefully.

Oh crumbs, I forgot to colour the doors before uploading. Excuse me! :S

EDIT: I've fixed the doors.

I'll have a go at some lighting next.

Critics' Lounge / Background is annoying me.
Mon 23/03/2009 18:20:08
This background has been annoying me for a while now. I'm fairly happy with the bits inside the windows, but really don't know what to do to make the corridor aspect more appealing. The colours are also horrible, and I can't find the right combination...

Generally just frustrated. Advice, ideas and paintovers all equally welcome.

It is a background used for a cutscene. It is supposed to be a medical area of a facility. The cutscene works by following a character down the corridor (scrolling) to reveal the end window and then a conversation between the two characters is seen.

Thanks in advance! :)

A Scottish friend of mine has a friend called "lar" and was frequently annoyed his English friends calling her "laR". He tried to explain how to say "lar" without the r, but it came out as "laR" or "la" whenever I said it. I never really knew what he was on about. Obviously the same kind of thing.

What annoys me, is the way British people say Barack wrong, when talking about Obama. They "Ba-ruck Obarmuh" as in army barracks. It should be "B'rack Obarma", surely.

Interesting stuff.

Maybe like jack-from-the-box but from the pot instead of box? :P

;D It would be funny, but maybe a little no-sense at all?

Yeah, that's a plus. The more unusual it is, the more memorable.

I don't need a name to make player remember for ever, when i make more and more games, the players will have it in mind (for sure if the games are good  ;) )

1. If you think this why are you spending so long trying to think up a name?

2. If you think this why are you inventing a name for an invented company before making any of these "more and more games"?

People have said this countless times in this thread, but it needed saying again.

I really like it.

Just make the image box the same width as the topic list box and you're sorted! Good work!

I started an edit on the upper body, I was going to do the legs too. Just trying to demonstrate how to neaten everything up (i.e. colour count) and add some symmetry.

I think his pose will be a problem, it looks like he is on tip-toes or a jester or something...

These all look great! And the thread has reminded me of Commerce Unread - really love the art direction for that game. Was really looking forward to it!

I would put some pictures up of my project, but rather than having lost interest in it, I've recently had a new-found motivation for the thing. So much so I'm working on it most of my free time, and a lot of my not-free time. Including leaving Uni work until the last minute every week and getting stressed over it! :D Surely the sign of new-found enthusiasm... ;)

I'm hoping I can release a demo by the end of the year at the very very latest though!

Wow. Thanks everyone for the compliments, I'm really pleased with how this is coming along now! :)

It's a slow process though, and as ever I've been unreasonably ambitious! :D

Strange your saying its more managable because I think it looks alot better :P.

Lower resolution, mainly.

Yeah, it's the same thing with movies, dialogue is always written after the movie has been filmed.

"lol"

I meant it can be refined after. It's no good writing it all now, or getting someone to help at this stage. They would be waiting days in between each line they wrote!

You should of waited till sunday

Yeah, but I'm hoping this will be released in the future.

I can script, and I love doing it too. It's nice to have a break from the pixelling sometimes...

Only thing I'm not great at is dialogue, but that's a post production job, really.

Sorry if the digging up of this old thread is illegal, but just to let people know the project has been revamped entirely:

I've established a far more manageable - and attractive - art style, which means development is coming on a lot quicker now, despite having to basically start over.

Reminds me of the Blade Runner music by Vangelis. Which is by no means a bad thing! The whole project is looking great!

Gilbet V7000a 's torso. The original arms, and MantraofDoom's head would make the perfect edit! :D

They say (certainly of British general elections) that whoever Murdoch wants to win will win (Thatcher, Major, Blair all had his backing). I'm sure that goes for America, too.  He's just as powerful there, if not more so.

And Brown does too (I'm fairly sure), which will be interesting... ;)
#439
Really impressive!

What loominous said, but using a more grey-blue colour or even something closer to white rather than the yellow...

Religious or atheist, it doesn't matter. What matters is whether they are secularists, and the founding fathers and many other great presidents were exactly that...
