I like Virtual Sound Canvas for playing back general MIDI files and listening to music in games. It can also convert files straight to .wav format. I guess you can figure out how to convert them to ogg vorbis from there. Because the Sound Canvas is THE standard for general MIDI it should give the most accurate rendition too.
It isn't free though...

Here's the theme for the next music competition:

"70's porn music"

The cheesier, the sleazier the better! No special rules or conditions. Feel free to interpret this idea any way you want.

Hey! Yeah! Let's go with me. Thanks.

Now I just need to think up something for the next contest...

I put this together while looking at that pic. I really like it, where is it from or did you draw it?

But I thought Shadow of the Comet already had a point and click interface  ???

Sound like you have a great voice there.
There's only one way to really improve the sound quality: buy a better microphone...

Are you using a Wavebird (that's the wireless one) or a regular controller? The Wavebird can be unresponsive, like you describe, when you're getting interference.
I think the GameCube controllers are great, probably my favourite controllers out there.

Whatever. It sounds completely different, so nothing else really matters.

I didn't realize I'd confused you. I never said clipping and compression where the same thing at all. Distortion in a guitar amp and digital clipping are two completely different things as well, I'm sure you realize.

You're still using "clipping" instead of "compressing." Totally different things.. clipping loses information.
What is your point? Who are you talking to?

A large percent of new CDs are mastered to clip. A little bit of digital clipping on the final master can be kinda fashionable, I've intentionally done it myself sometimes. But I hear stuff that's just overdoing it. Like when it's clipping so hard the vocals start cracking up (like in the RHCP example there). I think the worst clipping I've heard was "Zwan - Mary Star of the Sea" CD. The mastering on that sounds so shitty I have trouble even listening to it.

I wouldn't worry so much about what the waveform looks like. It's what it sounds like that matters. There's lots of digital "ultramaximizer look ahead" compressors that can push your music up into a something that looks like a big meaningless rectangle without nescessarily destroying the music. That big rectangle your looking at is probably the work of several 100 thousand dollars worth of gear. Still, I think music is definitely over-compressed these days. There's something about CDs released 10 or so years ago that's missing today, to my ears at least.

Anyway, I have a lot of thoughts on these issues but I won't go into them here. If you're interested check out some of Bob Katz articles here: http://www.digido.com

I think you should change her name to April Ryan.
#215
I don't see any reason to change it. I didn't think Zoe was all that of an unusual name anyway. I've met a few Zoes.

Well, it'd be kinda nifty to be able to change settings (especially toggle full-screen/windowed) in-game, but really it isn't terribly important.
You can't really compare AGS to a modern 3D game. In new games there's a lot more settings and you generally have to tweak things to get the best performance on your hardware. It would be a nightmare trying to tweak one of these games if you had to quit each time, run a config program, restart the game, repeat, etc. But with AGS games you normally don't need to touch the setup options. I think the AGS setup program is only really included for troubleshooting, just in case the default settings won't run on your computer. I think for most users it isn't intended to be needed or used.

Is there a way this could be handled by a plugin? Maybe some of you could take it upon yourselves to develop the tools needed for support of 3d characters?

Holy crap, this is amazing! It's a complete conversion of Maniac Mansion with VGA graphics, MIDI music and full sound effects. How was it done? Was there an FMTowns version of Maniac Mansion or are the graphics all redone by hand?
#219
You didn't happen to get a new monitor as well with the new computer? If you did maybe it just can't display 320x200 resolution. You could try setting it higher or to window mode with winsetup.

This is brilliant. Nice choice of background music, too.
