But the thread was in the Rumpus Room. Nuff said.

Chuck Noris went to the party but forgot to bring the beer.

And then you contract rabies.

It's like publicly slagging off the Chinese when they are inherently linked to your own business enterprise and the national economy.

It's probably more moronic than ironic..

(Sorry about the political guff, folks. It won't happen again.)

But the bacon isn't Kosher.

It's like rain on your wedding day.

(Incidentally, it did rain on my wedding day! It was one of the worst storms in decades http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_Victorian_storms)

I might give this a crack. Pointless and plotless stories are my specialty. ;-D

General Discussion / Re: We are not bemused

My stupid mate used to substitute ‘bemused' for ‘amused' in sentences which I'm sure he found hilarious. I found it mildly amusing.

Cheers Taby.

I went with Hangover because the compilation desperately needed some of that upbeat 'normal' mainstream stuff at the beginning. However, I would have selected Halt Dich An Mir Fest had it been suggested earlier.

I've noticed there is a lack of female artists on the compilation, which is something I'm usually conscious of when making these CDs. There are many brilliant female artists out there.

Love your work AprilSkies! Looks perfect to me. But if you want to add some AGS characters I suggest the classics like Trilby, Charley Foxtrot or the Blue Suited Man from Demon Day.

Hi Tabata! Why don't you suggest a track? Any German folk music you could suggest? Like Rammstein, or something?

for the chill stuff, I like 'Slow motion' by third eye blind, or the 'easy' version from faith no more...

Thanks selmiak - love FNM! And great choice of song too. It's in at no.9.

I think our chill-out section is complete. Need more upbeat stuff at the start.

Stu..
I like the themed playlist idea. I suggest Pop Masturbation Music for the next one.

Cap'n D..
I said ONE song suggestion not fucking five! Did you not read my simple instructions? Or are you trying to piss me off? Why the nerve! Your account should be suspended for this! Where's Darth Mandarb when you need him? But seriously, thanks for your recommendation. I've now listened to some Eliza Doolittle and Paloma Faith and decide I like them. However since you have already chosen Spin Doctors, the girls will have to wait for Pop Masturbation.

Duals..
I prefer Broken Social Scene to your earlier suggestion, Ride. So the new track will take precedence. Ride can go back in their box.

AprilSkies..
Thanks for volunteering to draw the album cover. I suggest AGS Anthems as the title (although Monkey Mix does have a nice ring to it).

I strongly suggest some Muse. Knights of Cydonia, Map of the Problematique or Unsustainable are my current favorite, but I'll be happy with basically any of there songs.

I went with Knights of Cydonia because of the rockin' guitar at the end. And the horses. It obviously follows System of a Down.

Note: tracks now linked to Youtube vids. Apologies to those with no Youtube access. All tracks will be made available in a zip file once the playlist is complete.

Playlist updated. Good work people!  8-)

Hmm.. just realised that MediaFire is blocking sharing of these files.  >:(   I'll provide a zip file with all tracks once the playlist is complete.

Still a few more spots to go. Need a track 4 sandwiched between T-Rex and Ride. And perhaps a few more slower songs around the track 9 mark.

Also the song orderings are only tentative. Feel free to fiercely debate the song orderings.  :P

Playlist updated!

Babar..
Annie Android's Automated Affection is perfect as the first track! It was so obvious!

Eric..
T.Rex - 20th Century Boy works as track 3. I've made track 2 segue into this one.

Gurok..
Christopher Cross - Sailing in at no. 10. Nice song. Never heard it before.

Adeel..
Jagjit Singh is placed at the end of the playlist. Had to listen to it a few times and it seemed like a good finishing track. I must admit I haven't listened to much Pakistani music, but I couldn't help thinking something was missing like a bass guitar. Perhaps Pixel Hunt could do a remix of this one. Maybe Noa can add some backing vocals. Or am I being a bit ambitious?

More suggestions please!

The Rumpus Room / AGS Mix CD
Wed 13/08/2014 13:46:15
I like making mix CDs and over the years I've made dozens of them for friends and relatives. I've come to appreciate the art of making a compilation CD, with song selection and ordering being of uttermost importance. The first song needs to grab the listener's attention and I usually choose something highly energetic (e.g.Thunderstruck, by AC/DC) or alternatively something unexpected (e.g. Let the Good Times Roll, by Louis Jordan) which then leads into the next, more fitting song. After the initial sexed-up tracks, about mid-CD, I typically shift down a gear with some slower, mellow or melancholy songs (e.g. Thank You, by Dido). After the low point, the music returns again to a rejuvenated state and usually finishes with a climatic end track (e.g. Demon Days, by Gorillaz) or a comedic track (e.g. Eat It, by Weird Al Yankovic). The songs should flow too.

There have been previous topics on the forums where people discuss their favourite music or what they're currently listening to. This post takes it one step further in which contributors can post songs here to append to a playlist to create a mix CD, with the songs more or less following the structure I've outlined above. Ultimately I want to have a CD I can play in the car and I thought this might be a fun way to do it. I'll start by suggesting Saturday Night Palsy by TISM as track 2. Why track 2? Because it feels more like track 2 rather than track 1. Also, having it as track 2 prevents anyone from suggesting Song 2 by Blur.

PLAYLIST

So please suggest any song you think might fit in the compilation (or even a song you just like) and I'll update the playlist. I will accept any musical genre and in any language. At this stage can we please just have one suggestion per person, and later if the CD spills over 70 minutes of standard audio we can restart with another playlist and you may nominate another song.

Also if there are any other enthusiasts out there please share your style of making a mix CD. Does anyone get creative with album covers?

The Rumpus Room / Planet of the Apes
Thu 07/08/2014 13:16:27
I've just gone and seen Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Very cool movie (5 bananas) but I had to rent the previous movie Rise of the Planet of the Apes to remember what actually happened previously. I had a vague recollection of monkeys getting smart and going ape shit on the Golden Gate Bridge but couldn't remember much else. I'd also forgotten the title of the previous movie thinking it was Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (and that the more recent one was Rise of the Planet of the Apes). 'Dawn' and 'Rise' like the morning sun seem interchangeable to me. Logically the next movie in this sequence should be Morning Tea of the Planet of the Apes.

Is anyone else a fan of the rebooted Planet of the Apes series? What about the old movies? I've not seen them, apart from the Tim Burton one (which I quite liked actually).

..But more importantly, what should the title of the next installment be?
