A few questions about this module...

1. Does it work with AGS3.x? It's fine in 2.71 and 2.72 but when I ported my game to 3.0, AGS complained that the dll doesn't work. Does anyone have a version of the dll that works with 3.0, or is there something I need to do to get it to work?

2. Scorpiorus mentions that to change the rain view you need to use srSetRainView, but this is not discussed in his documentation nor does he say on here how to use it. It takes four integers as parameters - that's as much as I know. Does anyone know how to use this? Using srSetRainDefaultView sets the view once only and doesn't seem to allow you to change it.

3. Scorpiorus apparently hasn't been active here since 2009. Is anyone in contact with him in case I need to ask him directly?

Thanks everyone!

Thanks for that, Arj0n. I'm much further on now. Any tips on:

disabling the accumulators? I've done the one in the room with the walkways and glowing symbols but I'm a bit stumped on the others.

Thanks.

I'm stuck one step further on the game.

I can send Tachy back and forth between the UFO and the Germans' base and have got into the second room of the UFO, but I have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing now.

Thanks for any help.

Spoiler

I never liked The Hound too much at the first place. If you know the story of Doyle vs Sherlock Holmes, it was probably the one that it was the most obvious that he didn't wants to write about him. (Plus the fact that there's no word for 'Hound' in french. So The Dog of The Baskerville is.... you'll never guess... a dog!!!)

???
Spoiler

But that's what "hound" means in English, too. No one seeing the English title would think it referred to anything other than a dog.

@Stupot+: She says he's her bodyguard, but then, if she is an escapee from a psychiatric ward, that might not be the case.

@Chicky: The mouse cursor changes when you're over something you can click (except in the chase scenes).

It's a platformer....

Oh, so it's not Adventure-related?  ::)

The game isn't, no, but Yahtzee is (or was) AGS-related, ergo it is something adventure-related :)

Nice game, thanks for the link. So, what is that controversy about?

No problem. I liked the game and thought others might do to.

The controversy is about the way the woman is treated - following the woman, slapping her, etc. Look the game up on jayisgames.com (when the lights come back on - they're currently blacked out in support of the campaign against SOPA and PIPA) and read the comments section. There doesn't seem to be much fuss about the way the guy and the cat are treated.

Just played this little point-and-click game, Follow, listed on jayisgames.com. It's stirring up some controversy over there for its content. The artwork and music are really well done, the gameplay is quite good and the game itself is pretty easy. Just mentioning it here for anyone who'd like to play it.

Ben 'Yatzhee' Croshaw is making a new game!

It's called Poacher and you can read about it on his blog. It's a platformer and reminds me a bit of Knytt's games.

Don't worry about it, Hernald. This happens all the time. I see games that feature ideas and puzzles in This City at Night (still in production!) all the time, but I'm not planning on changing anything. The only thing you should worry about is if a huge chunk of your game is identical to someone else's - then you might want either to make changes to avoid charges of plagiarism, or to call your lawyer :)

I have a book that gives advice to creative people, and one piece of advice is that if someone else does something that you are doing or planning to do, then you should still do it and do it better than them! And remember, there is nothing new under the sun.

It crashed on me (see below). Here's what I did:
Spoiler
I went into the lab, got the probe, killed the blond scientist, then exited. The bad guy showed up and then the game crashed.

Yay! Bravo to Midian Design for completing and releasing this game, which was a bit of an Odyssey in itself :)

Congratz on releasing this awesome game!
And kudos to Paolo: you did an awesome job on the English translation!

Why, thank you :) I hear you did a pretty awesome job yourself on testing the game.

But anyway, enough with the love-in... at $3.99 this is an absolute bargain, so to anyone who as read this far, GO AND BUY IT NOW!

Ben, is that an off-switch design on Elodie's T-shirt? What will happen if we... press it? (Or is it an on switch? ;))

A further update for those following this thread...

I've nearly finished one of the most involved scenes in the game. The next thing will be to add another character's walk cycle so I can develop a couple more scenes. There's still a lot to do though.

I was getting through this quite nicely until

I got into the apartment. I've escaped the bad guys. I can't leave by the apartment door yet. Looks like I have to do something with the console, but tinkering around with it doesn't seem to help.

So what's the next step? Thanks.

EDIT: OK, I worked it out in the end:

Reporting LIVE from the AGS awards ceremony...

I won't spoil anything for those who aren't watching. All I'll say at this point is that there seems to be an unwritten rule that everyone with the same avatar has to stand next to each other. I have never seen so many Sams and Maxes in my life. And for some reason, all the Sams seem to be standing up the front so no one else can see anything (see pic below - thanks Armageddon).

The problem with best newcomer is the definition of newcomer: forum registration date? number of completed games released? number of "proper" games released?

My interpretation of this would be who has made the best first game? In other words, a better title would be "Best First Game". Eligible would be any AGS game that is the first one ever released by an individual, whether a test game or a fully-fledged one.

Would a demo count as a first game?

I would say so. Perhaps the award would be something like "most promising newcomer", in which case it wouldn't matter whether the game was a demo or a full game.

And what counts as a first game? I have a credit for beta-testing and proof-reading, but I wouldn't think that would count as previous experience.

That's a good point. The nominee would have to be the person who contributes the bulk of the game - the artist or the person who does the scripting. It's not an easy one to pin down, so there would need to be some clear rules about who would qualify.
