Ooh, what a beautiful track that is, boyd!

If I had checked back to the forums a little earlier, I could have participated... but then again, 5 days is enough time to make a good bg.

Shure the character packs could be good and useful, but there is always a but...
It could lead to big amount of real amateur games that all look exactly the same...

Yup, what Jaffe says, its nice, but there is also a possibility that this is a trick to expand market  :-\

Let's talk about Deus Ex in this thread too!

The choices often had consequences, but the end sequence all came down to what you chose to do in the last half an hour or so. Anything else you did before that didn't matter. You could have killed everyone you could kill throughout the entire game, and then be a nice hero and save the day. (I'm speaking of the PS2 version, but I imagine the same applies to the PC version)

Hah, this reminds me of some Hitman game that was so hard that it was easier to go on a rampage killing spree than sneak and steal. But the main thing that still kept me motivated to go with sneak and steal, was that the atmosphere and theme of the game was really good, I just didn't want another shooter...
So the looks of the game, what creates the mood, is quite important for gameplay style. Game should always provide enough motivation. Unfortunately, I haven't seen much player motivation (besides the motivation that it is AGS and actually "there") in AGS games that tend to have multiple endings, even reactor 9 was somehow failure in that point.

Ooooh, I loved those Byzantine pictures, too bad its never going to see the daylight  :(

Here are some of my backgrounds from a friends project "My Little Real Life Adventure" which concept was really good though. And yep, its sort of dumped.

Character sprite by my friend.

Don't draw stuff on lined or squared paper, draw stuff on clean paper! Trust me, it gives you better solutions, more positive influence. No disturbing lines.

And usually colours are not the same in shadows. For example, green leaf has blue shadow, but not dark-green. Try to play a little with colour tones and values, you will get better through practice, see what looks best for the atmosphere. Usually warm tones have cold shadows and vice versa. Once you are getting the colour theory, start trying adding colour reflections on different surfaces (Everything reflects on something, even if you don't notice it) and dispersion.

I have also seen a good tip, especially for shadowy backgrounds, to make the main composition from biggest shadows and shades, and start working from silhouette. It is nice to keep things simple at start.

What I would really like to see in AGS or any other adventure game, is infinity action. Something fun you could do in the game that doesn't necessarily progress the story, but is just fun. And guess what, you could do this any time once the certain level is passed. Sort of like minigames in the first Sam & Max series, but more implemented into the story, so the action could be part of certain room or situation.

Make an ultimate games competition with ultimate teams!

Hi! This thread made me wonder really big, because I have lots of themed tracks.
Here is one:

http://www.zone.ee/inkspot/urbanisatsioon.mp3 - Driving on a highway set in rural area, reaching to the city step-by-step.

I don't know if this suites for the competition though. It is not very gameish and was done long before this thread existed. I don't have any whatsoever musical education or knowledge of notes, so yeah, track may be a bit goofy since it is only based on my 4 years of practical experience.

Oh well, maybe I'll do another, more gameish background track just for this competition for the 15-th.

Ah, Saddam, the father of terror! Certainly the cause of 9/11 and what more... Finally, dead, BURN IN HELL!
Isn't that just plain stupidity to roll all terrorism acts to Saddams fault? Oh, he killed his own people? Well, America and many other countries do it too! USA death camps in Cuba, Russian censorship etc.

I don't actually care if the bastard is dead or alive, the thing is, that all the shit is actually the same. Just another media manipulation to icrease "the war of terror" to insert fear in peoples minds. And what would be the better place and time than THE NEW YEARS EVE to remind that there is still a great chance of terrorism!

Fuck, there are pople dieing in Afghanistan. Families killed, and bodies sold back to some remaining family members so they could bury them. Deal with that!

The multiplayer AGS game idea is not bad at all!
The problems mentioned before are indeed possible and need attention. However, I think that problem with idiot spammer people could be solved with just a bit of modding. But then the moderator, who i suppose to be a host, couldn't play the game since he has to know everyhting. So this leads to a job opportunity which means that the system must have a server and monthly fee with enough players to keep the moderator alive. I think that is the problem.
Another way over this is just ignoring it, gathering up with buddies in a private server and just enjoy, create special chatrooms for people to meet up to gain trust between each other, so they won't turn into spammers. And besides, there are tons of games out there that deal with spammers, still they work and there are enough servers for everyone! Also, I don't think click-adventure games will be so popular among idiot spammers... They most-likely tend to go with mainstream.

The bigger problem would be instant logging in/logging out thingie. What if the murderer just logs out in the middle of the game? How long will the game last? And how exactly will the murderer capture work?

And with AGS type of games, limited items, wether they are randomly placed or not, can still cause repeating gameplays. I don't see a proper solution for that, except just making every item found on shelves, ground, chairs, cupboards etc (~100 items at least) usable in many different situations.
With such type of gameplay, if there are so many items, game can last quite long. Well, I remember playing one Natural Selection match (usually lasts for 30min) for lover 4 hours, but long online matches tend to not work properly because sooner or later people will log out.

A better way of online AGS game is to make characters more self-dependent, maybe. There could be an island and a treasure, everyones goal would be getting the treasure somehow. But people could still team up. However, this idea is more complex and I don't exactly know how and why the treasure should be found...

But anyway, I think the solving of mystery case is still worth of trying! You will never know if you don't try! Its just that the players should be organized and deticated, which I believe, at least AGS forum members will be!

EDIT:// Oh, just red the last post! Well, the idea itself is not bad but what fun will the admin get?

Has he explained why he did it?Ã,  What did MaterazziÃ,  say?Ã,  It makes me which i could read french, so i could check out their newspapers.
Materazzi told Zidane that he (Zidane) is terrorist...

That made me hink that maybe Zidane had to do it -- todays bureaucracy in sports, all the moneys and deals and stuff, like in boxing. Zidane was indeed a bit out of shape in the last 2 games, like something was eating him...

Weeeeh! Zizou, 13 years of carreer went to the flush because your stupidity! I am happy to see that you've had the worst possible goodbye! (I hope to never) see you!Ã,  ;D Au revoire "le grandeur"! Viva Italia!
Zidane got a Golden Ball today, so STFU!
Italians are nothing more than a bunch of sissy actors.

Yup... But sissy actors with a world cup. Zidane just arrive to sissy (without the actor) because his last image as a professional football player will be of the one corresponding to the aggressive dumb and CRY BABY man.Ã,  ;D F*ck him, and his golden ball (Which he can use to attack players more effectively)Ã,  ;D
If Italians like to call each other terrorist, then ok. I thin italians are jelaous.
