No, it's not impossible. I do it, so does my girlfriend and many members of my family. Everything I eat is vegan and from sustainable sources. Every product I use has no animal ingredients and is not tested on animals. If anyone wants any tips I'll be happy to oblige.

It's not important to me, it's important to the orangs who will all be gone in 5-10 years if this issue is ignored, it's rather more important than the other things you mention. All the other forums appreciated me posting this as almost everyone does not know about this. Delete if you wish and I won't mention it again. With the clock ticking for them I've tried to spread the word in any way I can, it's all I can do :(

Hello fellow gamers.

I wish to draw your attention to an issue that has not been widely publicised by manufacturers because of its inherent cruelty.

The ingredient 'palm oil' found in many products is leading to the unecessary extinction of a wonderful creature, the orang-utan.

The plantations to produce the palm oil are being made at the cruel expense of huge parts of the rainforest which is the orang-utans' only home. Vast areas are being cut down at an alarming rate for this purpose. If things continue at this rate they will very soon be extinct just because of the greed of man. It is predicted they may only have 5-10 years left unless things change.

There are two types of palm oil, those from sustainable sources and those that aren't. Sustainable means rainforest is not being cut down, non-sustainable means it is. If the ingredients do not state it's from a sustainable source then I urge you all to refuse to buy the product and find something else, or contact the manufacturer and ask them directly whether the palm oil they use is from a sustainable source. Please be aware that some companies are hiding their use of palm oil by instead listing 'vegetable oil/fat'.

Please do not be a part of this. Please boycott products with palm oil in unless it's clearly stated they are from sustainable sources. It only takes a minute to check but our efforts could mean a new future for these wonderful beings.

Results of my findings so far:

PRODUCTS WITH SUSTAINABLE PALM OIL:

There is a company called 'Fry' which has a range of meat substitutes, they use only sustainable palm oil and have won an award for being a really ethical company. I highly recommend them, and the food is deliceous. They can be found in many health food shops, and here is a link to their website. Suitable for vegans. http://www.frys-special.com

Here are some links where you can buy soap and oat cakes from companies which definately use sustainable sources.

http://www.scousesoaps.co.uk/
http://www.wildaboutoats.com/news/index.html

Hovis bread has confirmed to me that the palm oil they use is only from sustainable source so I can recommend buying their loaves.

Jacob crackers have confirmed that the palm oil they use is imported from suppliers who use sustainable resources so I can recommend them also.

The Linda McCartney range of food only uses sustainable palm oil so I highly recommend them, their stuff is lovely too.

Redwood foods only use sustainable palm oil so I recommend their range of foods.

Vitaquell Organic margarine uses only sustainable palm oil.

PRODUCTS TO AVOID:

Any supermarket-own brands containing palm/vegetable oil. Many have signed up to an agreement which intends to 'look into this problem' but are currently just milking the market for profit and using non-sustainable oil. This covers a huge number of products, please check all ingredients.

PLEASE HELP THIS CAUSE BY LETTING ME KNOW OF ANY FINDINGS YOU HAVE. CHASE UP MANUFACTURERS AND DEMAND ANSWERS. I urge you to investigate the products you buy so you know that what you are buying isn't adding to this terrible problem. Do not accept companies telling you they cannot tell where their palm oil comes from or they cannot guarantee it is sustainable. It is possible to use only sustainable palm oil and know where it comes from, it may cost them more but the option is there.

Thank you for reading. For more information and other ways you can help please visit the links below. Please spread the word.

http://www.orangutan.org.uk/

For more positive action, you can contact supermarkets and MPs making it clear that palm oil from non-sustainable sources is unacceptable, and that any palm oil in ingredients must be clearly labelled as sustainable or non. This deforestation must stop before it's too late.

I'm still playing it at the moment, I'll let you know all the things I find.

Another minor point I noticed: when you go to save your game, after you have done that and you return to playing the game, the cursor becomes an arrow rather than one of the normal icons you cycle through.

I'll add more if I find them.

Edit: I've now finished the game. Congratulations on one of the finest quality games I've played on here, I loved virtually everything about it.

It's a very solid game, the only other minor thing I found was
Spoiler
when you first meet Suzy-Ann there is a spelling mistake... she says "wanna see what I just finshed making"... I think the word finished just needs another i in there.

and I don't know if it was intended or not, but during the ending sequence (which is very fine I may add) you can't skip the dialogue lines.

Thanks again! As a huge fan of the genre this game really appealed to me.

Thanks guys, sorry I put it in the wrong forum.

Yeah as I haven't played with any actual coding of games with AGS I didn't know how difficult my suggestion would be to implement, sounds like it might currently be a lot of hassle. Maybe it will be a possibility if the changes to the AGS engine are made. Glad to hear someone has had similar thoughts!

Yes I must say I would always favour a mouse-click-only or key-press-only way of skipping text and dialogue, that would avoid most of these incidents from occuring in the first place. And it would stop me missing dialogue because I didn't read it quick enough either. When checking out the demo for the hitch hikers guide to the galaxy game I see this was put into the options of that game, you could choose either timer, key press, mouse press or key/mouse press. I think that's a great feature to include.

Thanks for taking my ideas seriously, I'm so used to people just insulting me constantly on other forums whatever I say.
#26
Thanks Snake :)

Yes often the dialogue can be repeated by talking to characters again, but sometimes that particular dialogue option disappears after use, or your character says something the first time they do something or enter a location and they won't say it again unless you load up and replay.

I know it's only a little thing and I'm not trying to say every game has to have this, it's just meant as food for thought as I'm sure any serious game designer wants to know how they can improve their games.

Hi there, I am a big fan of these AGS games and although I haven't yet made the jump to trying to make my own, I'm a long time game player and always have lots of ideas as to how games can be improved.

One thing I have thought of that could be used in any game is a log of the most recent dialogue or other text the game has presented to you. The reason I say this is if I accidentally click the mouse and skip some onscreen text, a lot of the time the only way I can read it again would be to reload an earlier game or restart. Because of this I find myself saving my games very regularly just in case I miss dialogue.

It could be as little as the last 1 or 2 lines of dialogue/text, it could be integrated as a notebook or just as the character's memory, it wouldn't seem out of place in any game I reckon.

Thanks for reading! I have other little ideas like this that I think could become a part of each game as standard, often things I see in one game that I think should really be in every game. I'm happy to elaborate if anyone is interested!

Thank you all for the great games you make, they go a long way to livening up my life.
#28
That's OK, just trying to help :)

I've noticed a few little things so far if you're interested, if not that's cool... such as

Spoiler
When I use an object on the sticky tar (that you use to join two cards together) the response always seems to say that she won't use the cards on the tar, regardless of which object I'm actually trying to use. Also the walkspeed in some of the screens, especially one of the first ones with the dwarf in lo res, is very slow.

These are only very minor things, please don't get me wrong. I'm very impressed so far, I love the humour, the graphics and animations are excellent and I look forward to playing it more. Great job!

Looks great, I've just started to play it.

I've noticed that if you press tab to bring up the inventory, you don't get the same looking window as when you select it from the top bar, and it says YES NO NO underneath... seems to me like it shouldn't be like this?

This is excellent, a brilliant example of how games should be made. It was funny, entertaining and interesting. I loved the commentary too, and having a walkspeed slider was a great idea. Bravo!

I really liked this game, it was funny, interesting and original. Most of the puzzles were great, a few were a little illogical like

but mostly I loved the style of the game. Great work! Hope to see more from you.

Really cool and funny game, I'm enjoying it!

There seems to be a mistake in the game...

Spoiler
I got stuck trying to input the code for the keypad, and had to ask for help in hints and tips. Turns out you have to enter Z, square, I, IIII instead of Z, square, I, III which is the code you are given. Since I can find no reason to indicate this different code I can only put it down to a mistake?

Nice work!

Hi there, I'm stuck in this game.

Spoiler
I'm trying to get through the door to pit IV where I am being told to go, I've used the battery to power it up and the weird interviewer guy has told me the code is Z, square, I, III, but this doesn't work and I don't see any clue as to what else it can be or anything else I can do.

Any hints would be appreciated please! Thanks.

Great work on making a new version and taking the feedback into consideration once again.

I have to play in windowed mode, I used to play AGS games in fullscreen on my old PC and that worked fine but on my new PC for some reason if I play any AGS game in full screen I can't see anything, all I get is a blank screen with a little blue box saying 'signal is out of range' (a monitor message I think rather than one from the PC or AGS) and all I can do is alt-tab out. Sound usually seems to work though. So I've only been able to play these games in windowed mode. If anyone has any ideas as to how I can successfully play in fullscreen mode or what could be causing my problems please let me know.

In my windowed mode I was finding just about every exit in the game very hard to use, right from the start and as far as I got. The ones where I use a door to exit the screen are OK though.

Thanks again and great work!

I really appreciate you taking onboard what I said about the exits from screens and improving the exit areas.

I downloaded the new version, but I can't seem to notice any difference, I'm still finding it as hard as before to get my character to leave the screen :( Am I doing something wrong? I feel the exit areas could be made hugely bigger without adversely affecting the game.

Edit:

I really like this game and got a lot further, but again found myself frustrated by the exit thing and I feel I'm probably missing a whole screen that I don't know how to get to or don't know is there.

Great work on the game though, overall this is a very nice game.

I found something you may like to change also:

Spoiler
After the murderer kills the pirate in the alley, I went after him and killed him on the island. Later on I returned to the main town and went in the pub (I hadn't been in there since the pirate got killed). Even though my character now knew where the murderer was (killed by me!) he still asked everyone in the pub if they had seen the murderer fleeing. Not a big deal I know, but thought you might like to be told :)

I want to like this game, but I'm finding it too frustrating to play. The exits to each screen aren't clear and I have to keep moving around really close to the edge of the screen to try and find them... The game looks good apart from this. Could you make the cursor become an arrow when you are over an exit (and make the areas for exiting the screen bigger) please? It would really help me to play it. Thanks.

Hints & Tips / Re: Mystery of Haunted Hollow

If you're right at the start of the game

Spoiler
After going down the stairs you can exit the screen to the left to find the front door instead of the back door.

I just started playing, if you're stuck on another bit I'll try and help you later!

Edit: I think I'm stuck on the same bit as you now.

Spoiler
Can't find a key for the back door, can't seem to get anywhere... I feel I am missing a room or something in the house, where is mum's room? It seems oddly missing.

Awesome, I loved this game, thank you :)

Definitely my favourite short game so far. I found it very funny, the voice acting was great, nice puzzles and visuals, and very entertaining.

I look forward to more from you!

Thanks everyone for helping me to be able to play this game!

Thank you Leon that is so kind of you to do that for me, I appreciate it :)

It worked first time from that link, I look forward to playing it now!

Once I've had the chance to play it I'll let you know what I think :)
