I'm seriously considering that but I just worry that it might get me negative publicity for a crappy game and give me a bad rep, you seem to know the score, has this approach generally been more positive or negative in general for game makers?

Also I'm not taking the game too seriously, no I'll leave that for more important things like finding a boyfriend. ;D

BTW, thanks for the all the help.
Just one more question, say I have a team of a designer and a coder, would that make my role in the game look really small?

In an attempt to edit my original post I made another one so can someone please delete this post?

First of all no disrespect to this forum's area to post for game making positions, I've already posted there and didn't expect to find one anyway, it would be more a bonus and that goes for anywhere that I ask. What I would like to enquire about is about other places that have similar threads or where I could try to put a team together for my game(even if the team consisted of just 2 people). It's also about increasing my chancing of finding a designer. I am aware of ways to attract designers or make the position appealing to them but not many places to find them as such.

Ok I'm happy enough with LiveJournal for now, it does what I want it to, cos I'm not looking for anything too fancy, to me a blog is more about its content than its look.

Look yes that avatar is much sexier than me but I'm not trying to delude people into thinking it's me, I have been looking for avatars online that represented to some degree what I looked like and that was the main one I found, I actually would like to find a different one but I haven't been able to yet. Anyway it's only an avatar, it's not meant to be like a photo of myself.

Right now I'm more concerned about problems with making the game than popularity with my blog, I think there has been a lot of confusion over what I was talking about.
LiveJournal now has a section called "Communities", sort of a blogging forum or group and I made one for people who develop and/or design free games. So it's not really related directly to my blog. However I've decided to ditch it anyway.

I've visited your blog and posted in the past, its in my favourites, you simply haven't updated for a long long time! And all it took last time was your thread on this forum. The best thing to do from here is include a link or banner (which isn't too big!!) in your signiature. Members here will click it, providing your post regularly enough. I get about 3 unique clicks from my AGS sig every day :) So thank you randomly clicking people!!! And in fact thank you SSH for generating a lot of clicks for me today too, hehe :) So I guess that proves you will get stuff from these forums alone. Other than that if you want to take your blogging really seriously, its best to buy a .com or similar cos then you'll appear in Google and double the clickage to your site yet again. I think blogs hosted on sites do too, but not to the extent you would being a personal entity online. Advertising your blog isnt really spam, especially in communities like this - seen as most people have one nowadays. Follow the sig rules here and you can advertise whatever you like (related to your game-making, I must add ;)) The best promotion for things like this is generating it yourself. I don't think there's anyone out there specifically making sure your adventure game creation is hitting mainstream news or advertising areas ;) And in my opinion, its not necessary. But I have no idea how serious you intend to be!!!

Above all advertising, just do what you do & do the best you can. Then you'll find true success :)

ps to my knowledge, and having experience with it, LiveJournal is a bit inferior in these days of blogging. I'd try looking to shift your content elsewhere, or a personal .com asap. Good luck!

I'm over the whole promotion thing really but I have been thinking, what do you think is the best free blog service as far as options and customisation go?
I don't take my blogging seriously, after all I hadn't posted in it for awhile because I was taking a break from making the game.

Would it happen to be the one in your sig?  You might notice dozens of people advertise their websites (commercial and private) in their sigs.  That's for whatever you want to put in there, inside the realms of size and decency.
Now but it's a community I started with LiveJournal, I think a small banner with a link to it will do. Any advice about how to promote both my blog and community in general(not related to this forum or site)?

Well, it depends. If it's indeed a product that might be generally of use for the people at the forum you're posting on, it might be fine to start a thread along the lines of "Hey guys, check this out!", with a little explanation and everything. If you're just trying to fend off crap... go buy and ad already.  ;)
Well I wouldn't call it crap but it's to let people know about a site(sort of) of mine that would possibly interest user's here.

Many game making forums don't allow advertising(including this one and this is not spam as I haven't advertised anything in this post) and I don't want to break their rules or spam.
So does anyone know of any such forums where I could somehow promote or let people know about (insert what I'd be telling people about here, relevant to game makers anyway).
Also I'm looking for free and legal options for promotion of it in general and to appropriate audiences.

Here's the link: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;u=2055
Thanks for the help but I had just realised how to do it.
Go to your Profile
Then click on your online/offline status
And there you'll find the link you're looking for.

Just thought I'd mention how I worked it out so if anyone else wanted to know they could find it out via this post.

Think it's appropriate now to close this thread.

Update
Okay what I'm looking for is an additional part time designer.
Also I need voice actors, a male and a female. The male would take on 2 roles as would the women, meaning each voice actor needs to ability to realistically alter their voice for the second role.

The game is called "Paper Memories" and the plot is a guy who wakes up one day and finds he has no memory of who is or anything about himself, anything further would be a spoiler and I haven't worked out the entire storyline yet.
Until now I have been using almost entirely free(not illegal) sprites for the game but I feel it's time to create a team and then get a name for that team. A partnership or collaboration that means it's no longer my game but the team's game.

For information on my game as well as screenshots please visit my
blog
.

If you are interested please let me know via
PM

I would suggest having the objects cast slightly lighter or softer shadows. This has improved since the first post, but I think you're losing detail because the objects appear to blend into their shadows.
Well no offence but I'm fairly happy with the finished loungeroom I posted last year but the main issue I have now is having open doorways for the other directions to the one that was made and I was allowed to use, since I am unsure how they did the editing in the first place, I'm unsure how to emulate it.

Maybe something like this:

I'm not trying to bump this old topic as such but this post is relevant to it.
KhrisMUC could you tell me how you did the changes because I need to emulate them for the other 3 sides or directions?

This is my most likely finished Loungeroom background.

I think this could be a really interesting style. I'm curious to see what the sprites will look like in conjunction with the bg.
If by sprites you mean characters, well here is a screenshot  with the main character I'm using for the moment in that room. He's unable to move currently in this room because since it's not finished I haven't made any walkable areas for it. However this is most likely not going to be the sprite I will use for the main character, it's just one I am using for now to test the game, the one I'll use will be a more detailed sprite. The shoe graphic in the screenshot is the walk cursor I'm using at the moment. I have the game set up in windowed mode and at 2x something so it'd fit on my small monitor but wouldn't look so small.

I meant the gray part at the side of the wall. I think it makes it easier to differentiate between the top and the side.
No offence but I find it makes it a bit harder, it seems too close the black shade right next to it but it's just a minor thing.
How did you change the door like you did? What program are you using to make these changes?
This is the latest revision with a table added, I want to add one more thing but am not sure what. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I was thinking of a TV but then I'd probably need to have it sitting on some kind of cabinet and that might be a bit too difficult for me to achieve and make the size ratio work.

Quote from: cobra79 on Mon 09/07/2007 07:15:40I distorted the door slightly, added lines to the floor to make it look like panels and made the walls vertical slightly darker.
Yes I can see how it works better. To be honest though I don't notice the darker walls.

I wasn't misreading the post, it was merely that I didn't realise I needed to add the ; after SaveGameDialog, I see now that that is needed for ending these script bits so I will keep that in mind. Seems to be working, thanks!

I like the wood floor, but I also think the deep red of the original could work if it were not too saturated and textured in a subtle way.
I will be using carpet for the bedroom, just have to work out the texture and colour, red wouldn't work for it because I already have a rug in there that's red and black. I'd post a pic of it but at the moment it needs more rework.

KhrisMUC was nice enough to allow me to use his rework, I thank him for that. So here is my latest update of the Lounge room. I made the objects a bit larger, removed the stereo, changed the look of the door and switched from carpet to wood flooring. How does it look now? I still plan to add one or two pieces of furniture to the room.
