what programs would you suggest i use for animation? i have used windows paint so far and it looks ok but i would like to use something better for my next game, any suggestions?

also is there an wasy way to do a flash, like a white screen? i could make it that the character gets hit in the head and when he has come around the wall would have collapsed.

I have a kitchen scene, where the top of the wall is very damp and dripping with water. the plan is to make the character use a pole to prod the damp spot, which makes the plaster fall in and allows you to get up to the room above.
PROBLEM
i tried making the rubble from the wall fall using animation but it was really unimpressive and took far too long. I was thinking about doing a sort of black out and sound effect or something so that i dont need to animate the stuff falling. How do i do this.
Any alternative ways to achieve this would be welcome
thanks

I'm trying to learn to write programs in Java, and using a textbook i have written a program to calculate the factorial of a number. Using the DOS command window i managed to compile the program, but when i tried to run the program using the java command in DOS i get the error "noclassdeffound" I looked on the internet to try to figure out how to fix this problem and most solutions involve altering the "classpath". I have tried to do this but i cant get it to work. I dont know what to set the classpath to. If anyone could help me sort this problem out i would be very grateful.

yeah pumaman i know what you mean.
Lo_res_man proves my point tho. Still it probably wont get improved since most people use scripting. Poor noobs wont get a chance *plays violin on shoulder*

yeah, but im just thinking of beginners. Im an intermediate user and i do sometimes use the interaction editor. I think its quite dauting for a new user to have to dive straight into scripting and i think steve's idea is good, its exactly what i was thinking.
Another idea is to allow the user to create a custom list of commands. This would let you put all the ones YOU like to use best in it so that you can get to them really quickly.

I was just thinking that it was quite annoying when your using the interaction editor how you get a huge list of possible actions for an event, when you only use a few of the actions for the vast majority of the game, I was thinking that maybe a possible improvement would be to have a smaller list of commands to come up first, containing the commands which are used most regularly, for example i find myself using "move character" "display message", or "go to another room" ALOT more than some of the other commands. I know that you could just learn to script these commands and so could avoid the tedious scrolling around the "configure action" drop down box but I'm thinking more in terms of a less experienced user who is getting to grips with the system and is not confident at scripting the actions themselves.

p.s the "less used" actions would be held in a different window perhaps titled "advanced commands", you wouldnt just forget about them :)

I get an error message saying something along the lines of "the game engine appears not to have terminated correctly, if the problem persists start a topic on the tech forum"

is this the point where a little guy appears on my screen and gives me a map of the isle of dartwind to find the long lost super help guide for AGS? or not...

Yeah the dialog request is definately getting called, I think the problem must be with my conditional statements in the room that the object is in. I have been using the editor to do a conditional statement on the variable but i think i must be doing it wrong because ive been creating a new variable form scratch, I get the feeling that its testing the wrong variable. How do you use the variable after youv exported it?

I cant get this solution to work, I've manipulated the variable names etc to get it to work in my script but it doesnt work, the variable is not changing value. any suggestions?

Hi,
I need to make the value of a variable change when a particular option is selected in a dialog so that I can proceed to pick an item up.

i.eÃ,  Ã,  Ã,  Ã, "OK you can take my hook"
*variable changes to 1*
Hook can now be picked up from floor

I'v tried dialog requests but I cant get them to work, if this is the right way to do this could someone tell me exactly how to use this function or if there is a better way please let me know.

thanks,
Scott
