Woah, I didn't realize there were any. Sorry about that.

Sorry, Australian Universities don't count. Please change your nationality.  ;)

Spoiler
I'm past where you are, and I didn't do anything with the hole in the rock yet. Maybe you could do something with that fishing rod and see if anyone wants to trade what you catch?

I don't do MIDI but people ask this question all the time. I think someone asked it last week. The general consensus is usually that for a good one you'll need to pay around $30 at least, like most good programs. AGS is one of the good exceptions.

Do a forum search though to be sure.

Heh, or you can call your voicemail and look like a weirdo, like me. I usually don't have that problem because everything comes when I'm sleep deprived.

QuoteActually, working from the end isn't a very good idea in some cases, because it makes the game very linear. Non-linear games that have more than one ending (or have just one, it doesnt matter) are veery hard to do this way, and normal games would turn out more linear than they already are because of the very straight line goinf from end to start.

My explanation was kind of simplified from what I really do. I would write an explanation for how I'm doing the game I'm currently working on, but it's an RPG so the process is a lot different. Here's how I would design an adventure game.

1. Figure out where I want the story to take place (big city, suburb, neighborhood, all in one house, etc) Write down what the general feeling is around this place is (lively, dreary, what are the people like? Are there lots of people?). What does this place look like?

2. Who is my main character going to be? What is his/her personality like? What does he/she look like and what age?

3. Who else might be involved here? Where will they spend their time and what kind of personalities do they have?

4. Based on this setting and characters, what kind of interesting thing could go wrong here that would allow an adventure to take place? Who or what causes it to go wrong, and how could the character solve this problem?

5. Think of as many other ways to alter the storyline and fit in a puzzle by making it difficult to get certain essential items, etc. hopefully making it more interesting to play. General adventure game stuff. You can also fit in mini games at this point.

It wouldn't really be so hard to do this in a nonlinear fashion, you'd just have to come up with multiple endings in step four, and then find where the decision point is (where something is done to choose between ending 1, 2, 3...)

I don't think you'd necessarily need sine, cosine, and tangent functions.

Are you planning to do this with an overhead view, or behind the player? Doing it in overhead won't be as hard.

I was thinking you could have the player pick a direction for the ball to go, and a constant (friction) to be subtracted from the ball's speed as it moves. After that, some sort of function to make the ball slow and/or change direction on hills, maybe have a certain point that repels the ball depending on how close it is, and depending on how high the hill. After that, you'd only need to set boundaries and make the hole work right. I'm only a novice programmer, so it'd take me a while to work out exactly how to do these things, but I'm sure it's possible.

I've never had to worry about a sniper in my life.

1. I live outside a small village in Finland.
2. Everyone there is always drunk.
3. HAPPY, drunk
4. The most dangerous thing here is me... and my machete...

Not too long ago, we didn't think any of these things could happen to us.

Some drugs are addictive enough that "experimenting" with legalization could be pretty harmful in itself.

That doesn't prove anything, I played GTA for 12 hours straight once trying to beat it in one go and I stopped patiently for people crossing the street.

I think you're just crazy. Here's why: If that happened to me, I'd definately stop or slow down significantly on the video games.

I just condemn people who waste their time arguing over such stupid shit.

And that's not retarded, cause Maddox and Seanbaby do it all the time and their pages are respectively (and I quote) "The Best Page in the Universe" and have "Over 26 Million Faces Rocked".

So, they must be right.

Therefore, you are wrong.

You may continue to eat your ass with a spoon!

Yeah, so you, like Maddox, aren't a retard because you proclaim so yourself? Congratulations, and don't take my congratulations lightly because I am the greatest human being that ever lived. I said so myself, so it must be true.

Maddox is a skinny nerd that sits behind his computer and writes drivel everyone already knows. He's no smarter than any of us. I don't disagree with much he says, but his presentation is horrible. Logic shouldn't need cursing and blanket statements to justify. That's the sort of thing 12 year olds thrive on and love to revisit, hence the millions of hits. It doesn't take a genius to find the obvious and curse about it, he just happened to be one of the first to use the web for it. Also, he himself commented on how badly written 99% of his mail is, I'd say that's because his fan base is largely not the intellectual type. I don't even know who Seanbaby is, but I don't really search the internet for people publishing their thoughts.

Really, when you curse at n00bs it's funny, I voted for you many times in the Foregos, but I guess there's a good reason you didn't win, eh? You're calling me a dumbass for saying it's not wise to call people stupid for not knowing the capitols of foreign countries..

Totally go for AGS if that's what you want to do, I was just thinking you may only want the end result, no matter with what program. If that were the case, there are better tools for the job, but AGS can do tons of things because of the scripting capability. I'm sure mini-golf isn't outside of its domain.
#1214
Yeah, I'll bet the terrorists read DG's posts (because everbody knows they read AGS Forums all the time) and they're like, "Man! This guy knows his shit. Look how much he curses to show his intellectual superiority over anyone else in a debate, and tries to make it look as if he wasn't arguing with the two people he's making fun of for arguing. We need to stay away from Australia, way too easy."

See, you forgot to mention how retarded you are, because it's not like you weren't arguing. Retard.

After the fourth grade I got over it and started wondering why the athletic kids got more attention from the girls.

In Oklahoma you are allowed to carry a concealed weapon (Normally this is illegal) with a license, it hasn't really cut crime that much. Most people won't carry them, so really it doesn't matter if the criminals are the only ones with guns in the end.

QuoteSo all I'm really saying is that if less people owned guns, less people would get injured or killed by them. Makes logical sense to me & you can't argue with that logic.

I can, because I have a theory that if less people owned guns they would be the people more likely to use them for harm, but lets not get into a gun debate. I'm not that much an advocate of it anyways. It still holds to reason if a crazy person wanted to kill people, there'd be plenty of other ways too.
#1218
Yeah, that used to really piss me off in the fourth grade.

It's not always about realism. Even if he does get awesome textures, it's still not going to be realistic. That doesn't make it look less nice though, especially since the backgrounds are probably also not photorealistic.
