Hi everybody,

I have a question. So obviously AGS lets you use 1920 by 1080 resolutions. I googled around the AGS forums but found contradicting information.

Is AGS able to handle characters, objects etc. in higher resolution's? Or is AGS not the recommended software? Love hearing about people with these resolutions since the default resolution is perfect for pixel art by not so good for illustrations with animations that have too many frames..

Sorry for the newbie question. Love to hear from the experts. :)

Edit: I googled for the answer and did found an old topic on this question. This means I got to switch from AGS to something like Gamemaker. The thing that sucks is that this community feels sociable and truly passionate. this thread can be closed. My apologies.

Seems pretty quiet :) and I wasn't planning on entering but can I give it a shot? Maybe the subject is too broad.

I can't promise anything though.

So cool to see the feedback! Such a nice community.

Congrats to Radiant for coming up with such a original idea. I currently have a slight concussion with a killer headache but as soon as that passes I like to play Blackbird Pie. :)

Would be cool to see more competitors. Would it maybe be an idea to also post the jams on Itch.io to attract more people?

Sorry all. I have to withdraw because life's responsibilities keep getting in the way. I still really want to complete that western so I'll be back and look forward to the rest of the entries.

This is great! For weeks I wanted to get started making a western themed game. I can't for the life of me find the motivation without instructions like a game jam. I hope I can make something finish something for this month ends.

Moho is vector based but it can export raster based gifs. Any idea on the maximum number of sprites per view? I tried looking it up in the manual but couldn't find it.

Like Gilbert said I'm sure I can reduce the number of sprites/frames but I have no clue what the maximum number of sprites per view is :)

My apologies for being unclear :)

I mean I export a gif from Moho and tried to import it in AGS as a view. The problem is there are way too many sprites (more than 200) for a simple animation. I'm currently looking for a workaround or use more simple animations.

Hi! I tested out some animations in Moho. I tried exporting them as a gif and import them in AGS. Unfortunately there were way too many png's.

I was kinda excited to create something with it. I know Gamemaker can handle it but I really want to stick with AGS.

What do you think? Would lower res and less frames work in AGS? :)

I absolutely loved Telltale's The Walking Dead. The setting and theme doesn't matter to me as much as a game that lets you make impactful choices that influence the storyline somewhat.

Looking at a flowchart of the game the choices didn't influence the main story that much but playing it you really had a feeling that the decisions that you made were impactful. It has been my dream to create something similar but I wonder how and where to start :)

@heltenjon  Thanks for the feedback and for taking the time to play it!

Too be honest I haven't made a lot of games but they all follow the same pattern. No thought put in actual gameplay. Definitely something to work on. Now that I know a bit of what AGS is capable of I'm confident that the next time I'll start the process with actually sketching out some gameplay elements.

I was so excited that I told my best friend I made a another game. When he asked me what the game was about I actually realized it isn't really a game but basically a animation with click elements. Let's see if I can do better next time :)

It was a fun experiment though. I love the ease and possibilities of AGS :)

I enjoyed this, and thought it was really eerie throughout!... I kept expecting something disturbing to happen, but it didn't really... but tension!  :-D  That might have been the music. I liked the music change between the king and the rest of the screens. Congrats on the first game!

I'm not participating this month, since we submitted the theme and I'm crazy busy, but here's the idea I was thinking about (if anyone wants a weird idea):

1 room, 24 birds rehearsing singing / choir practice, inside a pie. They make sounds (notes?) when you click on them.  something something...  That's all I had, it might look like this:

(but better)

Reminds me of a puzzle in Toonstruck. As a kid I couldn't solve it. You basically had a clown face and different coloured buttons and they all needed to be pressed in the right order to solve it. The game would give you clues on what the next sound was going to be.

Also made a trailer!  :)

So I got a little bit enthusiastic and ended up finishing the game.  ;-D

It's now downloadable on itch: https://speksteen.itch.io/mathildes-dream

I almost felt like quitting yesterday. I get so excited I just can't force myself to stop working on the game. So I decided to take a break today and finish a little bit each day to keep it fun for myself.

This is the song I'm going to go with. I was actually proud of it because usually I end up making something way too choatic and this one sounds pretty chill.

This is what I got now. I needed to log in to Imgur and to my suprise I found my first game that I never finished. I spend so much time getting the first room right that I just eventually gave up. I all of this in Gamemaker which involved a lot of work! AGS is just way more convenient and practical.

The main characters even look a like.  :)

That's awesome!

I don't have much yet but it's a start. Learning the software as I go but I'm set on finishing the game.

Hi everybody,

Just a question. So far I have the animation ready and made a ambient soundtrack. I look forward to complete a short silly game but was I was wondering can I post updates here or in the in progress section.

I sometimes struggle with motivation and I thought putting myself out there gives me some accountability.

That's so cool! I'm still new to the forums but it would be super interesting, atleast for me, to be able to ask what drives people to design videogames. The answers probably differ per person.

Quote from: cat on Sat 04/05/2024 14:34:12Not too long ago, I discovered that the guy I refer to when I'm stuck at Plusword is actually one of the makers of Firewatch.

What a small world  :)
I recently googled him because I was curious about the soundtrack which he was also involved in. What amazes me the most about him was all the different roles he had in the creation of Firewatch. He seems super talented :)

Quote from: speksteen on Fri 03/05/2024 09:59:25It surprised me that I haven't heard of any titles made after Firewatch by the creators because Firewatch sold very well.
They're living in Valve Time now.
I'm not sure I follow so sorry if I'm misunderstanding.

But do you mean like Half Life 3? Which probably never will be released? :,(

Edit: Oh I Googled Valve Time and I get it now...That's a bummer lol. At least we still have the good memories of Firewatch.

The Last of Us Part One was the first game that made me react aloud in excitement at the screen. It was such a beautiful story that gave me hope during difficult times.

I was in homeless shelters for two years and it was tough. I deeply believe that having played the game gave me a strongly instilled hope that there would be light and positivity at the end of the tunnel. And there luckily was.

To lighten the mood. Firewatch was also a beautiful experience. It had humor, adventure, fun and a beautiful story about two people having a deep connection. It surprised me that I haven't heard of any titles made after Firewatch by the creators because Firewatch sold very well.
