I live my life in the constant hope that I might one day be called upon to do that thing where you open a locked door by poking the key out with a pen onto the newspaper pushed underneath and then pulling the newspaper to the other side. Some day...

I guess this is worth a shot! for whatever categories people want:

The Astonishing Captain Skull

Ah, cheers! I uploaded a new version.

A mysterious death on an isolated research station! A deadly secret in the ancient caves! Can Captain Skull unravel the mystery of the Ghost Planet... before it's too late?

Basically this started out as just a way to mess around with plasticine figures and goofy spaceships, before mysteriously turning into a mid-seventies episode of Doctor Who (which has blurred in my memory into endless scenes of dour british men arguing in silver rooms before being strangled by mutants). Basically this is a more straightforwardly "adventure game" thing in that it mostly involves talking to people and looking for clues etc, complete with little notebook I ripped off from the old Discworld Noir game. I think it's fairly long and more polished than my other stuff, although that's not saying much and a lot of the content isn't strictly necessary to complete it. Anyway.

It was a joke! You don't have to sit through Space Jam
#8
- Larry Bird is seen playing Police Quest II when he's introduced in "Space Jam", however the movie depicts him completing a puzzle which was not actually in the game, leading to speculation that there was a leaked alternate or beta verson (the 'Space Jam Variant').

- An episode of the "Dinosaurs" sitcom shows Baby playing a prehistoric adventure game made of bones.

- In "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air", Will Smith derides the sexual performance of an old white man by comparing him to Guybrush Threepwood.

- Direct-to-video horror film "Arcade" involves a haunted computer arcade where actions in the games occur in the real world (e.g. causing Pac-Man to eat a ghost makes a real life Pac-Man eat a small child). One sequence involves the fictitious adventure game DoomQuest; the command "Use Card With Man" leads to a bystander being fatally stabbed with flying cards.

- In "Robocop III", Robocop's visor interface is actually a modified SCUMM engine.

you have to visit the factory to the northeast of town. there's a punk/ted war on the road there and they won't let you past, so

stand in the middle of them and use the Cramps tickets

it's a pretty bad puzzle that relies on you knowing about the band in the first place but i pretty much threw the game together as quickly as possible without putting much thought into it!

Works perfectly, thank you! I'm fairly new to strings right now so I'm not too familiar with any of the functions  ;D ;D
#14
Hey, I'm trying to use a DisplayAtY function that also displays a text spring. Unfortunately putting in the string name at the end of the text gives me a "wrong number of parameters" error. Here's what the line looks like:

Code: ags
DisplayAtY(180, "Thank you. You have created one Mr. %s , thirty five years old, currently residing in Frog City, USA.", myName);

Are there any workarounds for this problem? Anything I'm doing wrong? Thanks for the help!

EDIT: oh yeah, and myName is a global string variable, so it's not because I didn't define it in the room script.

Hints & Tips / Re: Too Many Kittens
Mon 15/02/2010 15:03:28
Yeah, sorry about that! Technically you should just be able to combine the items like Jamol said, but the gerbil is so small and blends into the backround so it's a little trickier than I'd thought and requires some clicking around!  ;D

There are too many kittens! Can you find all the kittens? There are too many.#

Tom Tom's quest for an delayed onion shipment sets him on a path into the dark heart of the American Dream.

FEATURES:
- An almost 5-minute RPG
- Innovotive battle system takes place entirely in the fifth dimension, beyond the reach of human ken
- A game created in the proper dialectical spirit: rather than kowtow to bourgeois concepts of 'immersion', 'depth', 'gameplay' or 'quality' this game powerfully confronts the player with cumbersome controls, tiny text and frequent bugs. No longer being sated and tranquilized by the comforting norms of traditional 'entertainment', the perspacious gamer rises above, spirit renewed and heart soaring with dreams of the revolution!

An immersive Tolkeinish world.

Can you solve the mystery of the missing onions?

Class struggle vividly portrayed!

Custom ageing system lets you age in real time while playing

but also part of it was that this was made pretty quickly so I just made stuff up as I went along for the most part!
