You can referee the contest!

AGS hits the 800x600 resolution finisher! It's about to win when, Oh no, here comes SCUMM down the ramp with a folding chair, OMG!!! SCUMM slams the chair across AGS's face!

SCI drapes the arm over and 1... 2... and a reluctant 3 by Ultimo. Ultimo cries. :'(

I like SCI Studio too, but I tell the guys over at the SCI Studio Forum how much I like it, instead of wasting everyone's time here.  And, no one there goes around telling them how they think AGS is much better.

And, shouldn't this be in the Gen-Gen forum?

It is adventure related so this is the correct forum for it.

Tell that to m0ds. I moved PhilRoberts2004's upcoming SCI adventure from the upcoming games forum to this one, and he moved it straight to gen gen. f00.

Well...AGS seems to not be the right program for me...(sic) due to the fact that Chris Jones has not even come up with a tool that has you check for latest updates in the program.

There is, however, a mailing list. On the downloads page, off to the right side, you can sign up for it and you get e-mails when the engine is updated.

Not everyone who posts here uses AGS.  Erwin_Br is using Sludge for his game, for example.  Female Squinky uses it as well, though she hasn't posted in ages. I'm sure there are more, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head.  Anyhoo, seeing as you have made some very mature posts and havn't been screaming "YOU SHOOD ALL YOUS SCI STOODIO CUZ IT ROXXORS AND AGS EATS PAINT AND MY GAM WILL HAVE 532532785 CARAKTERS AND MAK YOUR GAM LUK LIK STOOPID!" welcome to the AGS community. I hope you enjoy your stay.

Yeah, nobody here is flaming really, cause nobody hates SCI studio. We all appreciate the work he does on all those programs over there, and the work he does.  Most of us have given it a try in the past, or use both engines. I used his font editor to create the 3 SCUMM Clone fonts.

So, in closing... my ovens on fire. Be back later.
- Oh great, I'm stuck in colonial times, tentacles are taking over the world, and now the toilets backing up.
- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

Okay...

I didn't know about this SCI thing and I'll be checking it out since this thread.

On the other hand, it's a little unwise to tell an AGS community that SCI is BETTER than AGS. They both have their strong points. And the points you brought in favour of SCI were pretty dumb. I mean, "You know the way people say it locks up WELL IT DOESN'T!" being the first thing that caught my notice... I mean, did it not occur to that not everybody has the same computer, running at the same speed, with the same abilities.

Also, "Chris Jones hasn't even come up with a tool to check for updates" is a pretty sad point in favour of SCI, because as Dragonrose pointed out, there IS a mailing list, and whether or not there IS a update-check, this does not denote to the quality of the final program.

Perhaps you should have taken a more, "Hey guys, this is neat too!" stance rather than comparing them, on an AGS forum especially.

But I'll check it out anyway, because it sounds like there are a few interesting features alright. I have to say that one of the major plus' of AGS is that there is such a huge and tight-knit community, that is readily available to give help to newbs and such.

Anyhoo.

As far as I see, this is a total non-issue. AGS is a far superior program to SCI Studio, and there is a reason.
AGS is updated constantly and is not meant to restrict your style. You can make any type of adventure game you want.

SCI Studio has one specific purpose: to allow you to create old-looking, text-parser games in the code of old Sierra games. They are meant to be old! AGS is meant to be.... whatever you want it to be!

As for the graphics editor in SCI Studio, it leaves some to be desired. It is more complex than paint to figure out, but the end result is just the same. When I used SCI Studio (for a short time) I used a different graphics program anyway (namely Paintshop 5, at the time that was the version I had).
