AGS Awards 2009

What are the AGS Awards?
The AGS awards are an annual event where the best AGS games of the year are selected. The winners are chosen by you, with your vote!

How do they work?
There are two stages, nominations and vote. In the former, you nominate games that you think deserve to win; you can nominate as many games in as many categories you like. The nomination phase is over! Read a list of who made it here!
The top five nominees advance to the second phase: here you can cast just one vote in every category (voting closed at 12:00 GMT on 22 Feb 2010)!; the nominee with the most votes wins!

Where and when will the ceremony be held?
This year the ceremony will be held on AGS IRC, a chat channel for dudes and dudettes like us. The datetime is Febraury, 27th @ 22GMT. Check details here!

Who's behind this?
This year the awards are organised by me (bicilotti), with the great help of CJ (forum-wide announcements and renewed nomination page) and Jake (IRC ceremony).

I'm a non native english speaker. If you find mistakes in this post, or unidiomatic english, please send me a Private Message so I can quickly fix those!

Good stuff! And IRC even better :) I'd go with 20:00 - 22:00GMT. Though anytime on a Saturday is good for me. Friday is out of the question. Whenever...Looking forward to it, so thanks bicilotti!

Awesome. Thanks for a great start to your reign as AGS Awards guy, bici!

Hang on... can we really nominate AGS Awards Ceremony 2008 for an award?!

And, massive typo :P 'Which are the gategories?'

20:00 is 5am here. Too early for an award ceremony!!!

*edit* One more thing, the Vestibule demo was originally released in 2001 or thereabouts. I'm not really sure it should be in that list. I know for sure it was ezboard days. We can't have Yahtzee winning any more awards, seriously.

To address a worry stated by Grim Reaper in the Fyc thread: yes, commercial games are eligible as freeware ones. Updated the first post, and corrected the massive typo.

edit: Layabout, is/was the game (vestibule demo) to be found in the database in the past? Or was it just in a WiP thread?

Layabout

I'm not sure if the database even existed in ezboard days.

Currently it seems impossible to nominate the commercial games in other categories than Best Demo.

But anyway I'm afraid this years very strong commercial releases will leave very little awards for the freeware titles. And does anyone know why Blackwell Convergence isn't in the database?

Thanks Ascovel, there are indeed some commercial entries which are in 'Demo' category, despite being full games, (albeit commercial). I PMd CJ about this, it should be changed soon.

Layabout: rules of the previous edition of the AGS awards where pretty straightforward, it's the date of registration in the database that counts. So good luck to Vestibule. (same goes for BC, if the author puts it in the database, it'll be eligible that year).

Commercial games are listed as Demos because only the demo is available on the database.

Makes sense, doesn't it? :).

Intense Degree

Is there going to be another category of "Best Short Game not made by Ben304!" ;)

Just askin'... :=

IndieBoy

Noms done :D
Reading through that list sure made me reminisce about all the games I've played this year. It's a shame that some games that I loved this year aren't that well known, but fingers crossed for those authors.

The only person in favour of the mobs seems to be IndieBoy.. but he's scottish so we dont listen to him anyway.

Yes and no. There is a complete game benheat.
But that's not what interests me: I just'd like to see those adventures competing in categories different than "Best demo".

If the authors are not around, consider making a post yourself in the fyc!

abstauber

I've just seen that The Vestibule is on the nomination page as well...

Best demo from 2001 in 2009 ?  :=

Helme

@Abstauber
The chances for winning 'favorite MAGS' are not bad, too.

Layabout

It is actually extremely broken that commercial games should not be considered for nomination due to the way the nomination/game pages are set up. The same way it is broken that a demo from 2001 for a never to be released game should be considered for an award.

I would have nominated Blackwell Convergence for every award due to the time effort and love put into that game. But alas, I cannot.

This needs to be fixed and people should be able to re-nominate if they wish.

Actually, in previous years I've gone and reminded people ahead of time to get their games in before the year end. This year I didn't, so perhaps some adjustments can be made. Mea culpa.

@Helme: ...if the maggie-voters like to shoot stuff. That's why I try my luck here ;D
(abstauben = to scrounge sth.)

Helme

At least my main play-tester Dr. White is very obsessed with shooting.

Well, to be fair I totally forgot to add Blackwell Convergence to the AGS games database, so that probably disqualified it.

After all, they are games made with AGS, aren't they?:)
