In the section "AGS Games in Production" there are 2 or 3 post for the last 24 hours. And sometimes there are 0 posts for a 24 hours. This is very sad for the game authors that need feedback :(

ThreeOhFour

It's great to get feedback on a game you are working on.

But sometimes we have little feedback to give. Games as a product are often quite hard to give feedback on until you see everything working in unison - ie playing the game. Sometimes one or more features shown in the GiP thread will stand out and make us want to comment, but otherwise what is the point?

I understand that not getting feedback on things can be disheartening, but I also understand that sometimes it's better to knuckle down and just get your product out there, and then get feedback on the completed game, rather than hoping for praise of a blurb and two screenshots. Still, if you personally wish to give praise to all our budding game authors out there, good stuff :).

It seems like you're trying to give the community here a shape up. I don't understand the point of all these posts you are making. If you want something to happen, lead by example. Encourage people in the GiP thread yourself. Make a high resolution game yourself.

Just don't expect people to say "Oh, of course, yes Sir!" every time you make a comment or share your opinion.

Bai Karl

Ben, I'm necessarily evil. Like the woman in the family :) Sometimes it's good to hear a things from the other side. Nevermind if it's right or wrong. It helps.

You're absolutely right. It's good to hear someone tell their opinions on how we could turn the whole AGS scene into a more professional corporate machine that eats babies. It does help. Makes us appreciate our current situation more.

Its a universal rule that you'll get a lot more respect for your opinions if you've walked the walk and not just talked the talk.

Game authors who've done a release get more respect on the AGS forums, in general. Just imagine how much more weight you'll carry if you could say "MY 800x600 game gets waay more downloads than everyone else's games" rather than "I think you should do THIS".

Actually, there is a lot of feedbacking going on in that thread. I don't see one thread with 0 replies in there.
And 2/3 posts in the last 24 hours isn't that bad, considering WiP threads don't get updated that often.

And I agree with SSH and Ben, instead of starting this thread, why not comment on some games in the WiP section?

Bai Karl

"Game authors who've done a release get more respect on the AGS forums, in general."

No.

Game authors who've done a release in 320x20 get more respect on the AGS forums, in general.

SSH do know at least one author that created a game in 800x600?

Eggie

Where did you get this weird conspiracy theory about us hating high resolution?
And why aren't you listening?

Let's say this is the case. So what? How does this affect your life? Why do you care? What are your motives? You clearly don't like how this community works so why are you still here? To me it just seems a bit hypocritical...

Bai Karl

I can't stand when on two lines and one circle you get "Great game! Looks interesting". Just check out GiP section. All i'm saying that there are games here that don't gets enough attention. And for my opinion, this is wrong!

Ubel

All you can do about that is give the games attention yourself. Really, that's it. You can't change the world by complaining about it not changing.

People like different things. Also, people like to encourage other people if their games don't seem amazingly professional. You shouldn't complain about that.

Well, if someone released a game in that resolution, I'd respect him/her.

But seriously, instead of being negative you could also have started a thread praising all those great 800x600 games.

Rincewind

I'm pretty sure that most of us here would appreciate a great hi-res game just as much as great lo-res one.
And I'm also pretty sure that most would get just as excited and drop exclamations of hype and praise when somebody posts screenshots of a game with beautiful, hi-res CoMI/whatnot-styled graphics as we would when somebody posts great lo-res graphics. (Fallen Legend being a great example - Beautiful hi-res graphics, and lots of positive response from the first day of posting)
I think it's mostly a matter of lo-res being easier to handle, quicker to draw, and overall being a style that a lot of people here like. (as many has already pointed out) In the end, it is indeed just up to the game makers themselves.

So, in short, I'm with Eggie: I can't really see the conspiracy here.

Bai Karl

Ok Rincewind,

Let's see when Fallen Legend (which has amazing graphics) will be included in the "Pick of the Month"? I think never, because there are lot of games in 320x200 that are waiting their turn.

"Tale of Two Kingdoms" and "Ben Jordan 6" will stand forever on the main page! Why?

Ubel

Because people don't judge games by graphics.

Anyway, this is pointless because you just will not get the point. The answer is somewhere in the big amount of replies you've gotten so far. Keep reading them, you should find enlightment sooner or later.

It's not finished yet.

Bai Karl

Indiana Jones Demo was chosen for pick of the month June 2008. Why not and Fallen Legend?

There were completed games in that time!

The Fallen Legend demo doesn't compare to the Indiana Jones FOY one, if you have played the two. One is much more "complete" than the other.

Eggie: Thanks. I should have known someone would go ahead and just say it sooner or later ;D

Bai Karl

Ok, and about the completed games at that times? SSH choose DEMO for pick of the month while there are completed games? I know that, because i remeber exactly that time.
