I'm sure all of you know of (or maybe not) 'Let's Play:' Videos that float around youtube. I was thinking of dong a series where I play games from these very forums to play through with my own narration.

I'd just like some input. Is this a good idea? Bad idea?

ShadeJackrabbit

Good idea. Try and aim for high production quality, though. We don't have enough adventure game LP's.

Scarab

Um, yeah, I think someone has already done Yahtzee's games, though I can't remember whether they were narrated or not.

Go for it, I say!

p.s. I'd suggest doing a little research on how to do them well, if you haven't done one before. Keeping the narration interesting/funny for a long time is very difficult. I'd also sugget playing through the games first and taking notes on all the things you want to say during the video.

LRH

Good advice. Yeah, Yahtzee's have been done...but I mean the lesser known titles. I don't expect a huge audience, but it might make for a fun thing to do here and there.

Look for games with voice acting. I watched a couple of let's plays of the early Ben Jordan games, and to be honest I can't decide which is worse, listening to the commentator doing all voices or having to read text in a YouTube-sized video.

Edit: McCarthy Chronicles could be a good one!

Calin Leafshade

McCarthy's been done.

Do Necroquest just so you can hear Azure being a butt naked succubus.

That's the thing, though. With the right commentator, the dialog can be done really well! Plus, I'd rather not play a game where the voice actors do all the work for me, that's no fun :P

Bulbapuck

Dang it Domithan, stop stealing my ideas :P

I've actually been planning the same thing, but if I ever actually start (been post-poning it for a while now) I'll make sure not to step on your toes.

Also: PM me, or post a link to your channel so I can subscribe ;D

LRH

I'm sorry Bulba  :(
We can work with each other, I'm sure!
I was planning on putting them on my site, because I'm not a fan of using youtube. However, if that seems to be the better idea, maybe I'll just throw them on there.

Bulbapuck

Haha, don't be sorry :P I'm a lazy guy, there's a big chance that I will never actually do it. However it would be fun to watch :D

By the way, I think you should put your videos up on youtube as well. Just because it's so easy to follow them there. Unless you have a good way of letting people know when you put up new videos?

Snake

Lesser known titles you say? Well how about my demo of Matt to the Future? I know it's only a demo, but what the hell?

Or even Castle of Fire? It's not an adventure game, but it would be fun to see other people play it ;)

Sure, I can do Matt to the future!
Probably not too soon though, I'm very sick and it would sound pathetic to talk like this through a whole video series. I'll give it a go tomorrow if my voice improves.

Awesome!

One game you should do is the horror game, Prodigal. One of the best AGS games I've played. It's lengthy and well-written. You never hear anything about it around here, but it's a great game. I think it deserves some recognition.

\\--EDIT--\\
It's not technically a LET'S PLAY, but there is a playthrough of it on YouTube already... :(

My youtube relationship is still so young, but I have been thinking about an AGS related project with youtube. I really want to see adventure game developers, than just read them. I know the podquests were highly entertaining (well I thought they were) so why don't we have something similar with video? Hmmm?

Let's play is a great idea, Dom! I may join you.... if not at least watch you. (I think I'm sounding rather creepy in that last sentence)

The only person in favour of the mobs seems to be IndieBoy.. but he's scottish so we dont listen to him anyway.

Non-English Let's Plays are EVILLLLLL!!!!111111

Dualnames

I'd do Castle of Fire Snake, though I'd be constantly like AVGN is when he's playing Silver Surfer.
Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

I remember when I made those videos. I'm surprised people still watch them, 'cause man did they suck.

Anyway, I think doing a series of LPs of just Adventure Game Studio games is a great idea. You could even try to get multiple people involved, and then create a playlist or YouTube channel of just Let's Plays of AGS games by people on the forums. I know that I've been thinking about doing Abducted: 10 Minutes!!! and Ben Jordan 3 but haven't due to my immense lazyness.

Yup, good idea, go for it. Especially if you can find a game that you can solve or complete in an unexpected way.

(for instance, I wrote a walkthru once on completing KQ1 with as little points as possible, which can go as low as 30 / 158 iirc)

Grundislav

One thing that might be interesting (and I sort of regret suggesting it because I'm way too lazy to ever do it) is to have the game creators themselves do a sort of Let's Play of their own game, but do a DVD-style commentary as they go along, talking about making the game, etc.
