Should everyone get a course in Mexican Spanish before the trip? It has become commonplace, right? Like, the McDonalds menus and staff speak only Spanish, or so I've heard.

Hey dudes, I don't think I'll be able to make it this year.

GDC is going to be a big expense for me, and I really don't think I can afford both that trip and Mittens. Alas...say hi to Mickey and Minnie for me.

I used to live in Ft Luderdale, but I happen to be back down for a the next few months.

EDIT: Oh, and if anyone needs to figure out transportation, at least from the airport, I live near enough, and with a minivan, so let me know. Eric's Free Taxi service available.

I'm pretty much at this point a confirmed definite. I have the funds. My manager advised me that if needed I can absolutely take the time off unpaid as long as I request it "in advance" (which translates as "prior to the dates I am requesting off, but not now"). I'm hoping to actually have paid time off for at least part of the trip.

I'm going to hold off on making a payment just yet simply due to the fact that I like having some padding in my bank account and I figure I can set the actual "necessary" funds aside prior to the due date anyway.

As far as any theme park adventuring that may have been previously discussed, if anyone was still planning on that, I'd just like to say that I'm out. Mittens is a go, but only for the week.

I will most likely fly into FLL (I believe), and will try to find a flight which best complies with the transportation schedulisms set in place.

You gotta laugh don't you? You can take a chainsaw + any size of gaslighter with you on the plane as hand luggage, since they're not listed as illegal items. I0m off to the nearest convenience-store to buy me a chainsaw, you know, just in case the pilots die of food poisoning, then someone needs to get into the cockpit to fly the plane (and pass on the fish!). And that flamethrower? It's to ward off evil terrorists, sir.

So, 7 weeks until Mittens, and just over 2 weeks until the payment deadline.

Yes, remember the June 1 deadline still stands.  Obviously if we haven't hit the 23 person cap by then it will be extended until we do, however this also means there are only 2 spaces left, so if you're planning on coming, now would be a good time to let us know.

I've put a lot of thought into it and due to two (2) large unforeseen unavoidable bills that threw some things out of whack...I have to regrettably back out.

I could actually probably afford it still, but I would really be pushing the envelope and for various reasons I have decided against it. I didn't want it to come to this because I have been looking forward to it quite a bit...

I can't meet the 1 June deadline for payment because I can't guarantee that nothing else is going to come up.

I'm sure you were all so anxious to meet me.

I've been hemming and hawwing long enough.  I am still not sure what my situation will be with my fiancee moving in (visa is about a month or two away from clearing), and things will be very busy around that time.  Rather than draw it out I will have to give it a definite say "no".  Have fun in FL!

I've already told Grundislav, but it's a no from me as well.  I've barely got enough spare cash right now to cover the base cost of Mittens, and that wouldn't include my fare there and the food/other stuff I'd have to buy.  If the next one is in California I'll be there, though.  Somehow.

Right after I went to Mittens '04 I thought, "If Grundislav is hosting this thing one year, I'll be the first to sign up!".

Unfortunately, many things can happen in 5 years, and it seems that I won't be able to make it... there's other expenses and travels that I must also pay this year.

So, I'll leave you all with my envy of those going there and wish you all the best in Florida!
