Is anybody bringing a laptop? I might have something to show and tell but I don't have a laptop.

Layabout

I can bring a netbook, but the small screen size makes it awkward to 'show and tell'.

Maybe that 50" TV would help you out  :=
Does anyone have a VGA to HDMI cable?

Apart from that I'd also really like to show and tell something, so I keep my fingers crossed that anyone brings a portable computer.

LimpingFish

I'm bringing an android tablet that outputs 720p over HDMI.

So if anyone has...y'know...anything running in...um...android?

...

It could show images and videos of people's work, though. On a micro SD card...

Has VMWare yet been released for Android :P

But wait - maybe that netbook could stream the video signal to your tablet, which throws it at the TV... SIENCE!

Snarky

I'll bring a MacBook, but it doesn't run AGS games very well (and I don't have the means to connect it to the TV). Assuming someone brings a Windows laptop, I'll see if I have some useful cables: I think I have a VGA to DVI and a DVI to HDMI, so I could potentially chain them together. It would be better if someone has a more direct solution, though.  :P

BTW, what kind of power sockets do they have in Ireland? The GB type?

abstauber

@Snarky: I could bring a mini-DVI to VGA or mini-DVI to composite, if you have an "older" white model.

I could also provide a virtual machine (vmware) running Window7 32 bit.

I run Windows 7 in Parallels, but sound tends to stutter in AGS games.

I was able to dig up the cables I had in mind, but I can't chain them together because both the DVI ends are male. Unless someone has a computer with DVI or HDMI out, it won't work.

I will bring along audio cables, though. (Headphone jack to headphone jack and/or RCA red/white)

Finally, a Mittens with proper ******* plugs!  :=

Keeping in mind they have that projector room, which hopefully means easy laptop connection... I will bring my S-Video lead to SCART. Will anyone's laptop support S-Video? At least with that I know I can get a TV hooked up. Really hoping the right leads and laptops are there to be able to show the movie!

Creed - maybe you can bring something along those lines for a super quiz prize? :) Question is, can anyone beat Francisco Gamezalez and win it!!!?

Creed Malay

There better be! We needs us our premier. :P
Kim is probably bringing her lappy, if that helps folks.

edit - Sure thing, Mods! :D

This netbook only has vga output. So if anyone can get the cable to correctly output to the tv from vga, then we are in business. I was tempted to bring along the beasty laptop, but decided against it.

It depends on what inputs the TV supports, too. If you say it's a modern plasma screen, it should have HDMI or DVI in, maybe component, and SCART and coax, right? That should work. On older TVs it would probably be more complicated, with only SCART, composite and coax options.

Also, some TVs don't let you get sound input from a separate audio cable when they're in HDMI mode (and you don't get sound from video outputs on laptops, of course). Didn't we have that problem last year?

I have about five kilos of different video cables, but not exactly what we need. Maybe I can pick something up.

Disco

I am bringing my Macbook Pro that runs Windows 7 natively in Bootcamp, so no virtual machine issues. I do not have any special TV connectors for it though.

Snarky

Oh, I do have a connector for that. DisplayPort -> DVI(f) : DVI(m) -> HDMI.

(We should have a backup, though. I'm a big believer in Plans B.)

Yay, so computing is covered :D

@Disco: Now if you could only send that phone list, that would more than great :)
