I actually found myself thinking Moon would make a better game than a film due to the whole 'extra lives' thing. It would also give you the option to circumvent a lot of the exposition if you happened to be a player who had, ooh let's say, read ONE other sci-fi story in their lives.

If I'm allowed to deviate a bit from adventure games; I think the mythology of the classic Hammer vampire movies could be weaved into one hell of an awesome open-world RPG. I had the idea while watching Brides of Dracula which contains this perfect little Fallout-style dilemma.

Frequency?  Now there's a movie that would make for an interesting gameplay experience, particularly with the sudden changes in the present caused by even minor alterations in the past (moving a screwdriver where your modern counterpart can get it) along with the modern-day character's advanced knowledge which can be passed to the past player via radio (or whatever).

Also, Hammer's vampire series as an open-world?  Not so much, but as a series of games, or even rpgs, hell yes!  Even though I'm an 80's child I love the Hammer films for being classy and still delivering a good horror narrative.  Indeed, I'd like to make a good horror-themed series like that at some point!

Also, you'll have to forgive me if I'm making loads of spelling mistakes; I'm typing from across the room on my Fitdesk right now :).

I saw a movie last night called "The Jacket". I was only half impressed by the film itself, but the premise I found quite interesting. Basically it's just about er, tripping out and becoming part of the future, then taking information learnt in the future trip back to the present and using it to your advantage. Something along those lines would be cool IMO, but not a direct version of the movie - cos it was a bit lame. I am totally gripped by time travel games/movies etc right now.

I agree, that Moon image looks great - but I also agree with Progz. Not a lot happens in the movie to warrant a grand set of puzzles for a game - but it would certainly make a decent short/medium adventure.

Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

Inception. I'd love to see that.

Me too!  Especially the idea of swapping between dream levels and your actions on one level producing an effect in the next etc.

On a similar(ish) theme, what about Enemy Mine?  That could make a good adventure game.

this should happen. Anyone want to form a team to write a script? :D

other than that:

Kill Bill

Pulp Fiction
Actually, the whole non-chronological plot business would be interesting to write for.

I think 'The Hangover' is a great concept for an Adventure game.
You wake up, with no recollection about the night before and have to travel around Vegas piecing a bunch of clues together.

Totally agree!  I had the same notion after watching the movie.  In a similar vein your best friend is 'missing' and you have no idea what happened the night before so you set off to find him!  I was imagining it in a Leisure Suit Larry type setting.

I also think Moon would be an interesting game (love the movie) but yes, you'd have to take serious liberties with the story to make it work in an adventure setting.

I've always thought the movie Cube would make for an interesting game as well (even though the movie wasn't all that great).  The backgrounds would be a snap to create and each room you must solve progressively harder and more complicated puzzles to find the way out.

While not strictly based on a specific movie... I actually (quite a few years back) started working on a game called "The Little Lebowski" (if you can't figure out the movie that's based on...).  It takes place in 1999 and The Dude and Maude's kid (the little lebowski) has gone missing and the Dude puts on his detective's cap again to go in search of his missing kid (very complicated case).  Walter, of course, is by the Dude's side to help him and he's obsessed with Y2K (but the Dude doesn't really mind as Vietnam is no longer the obsession).  The Ghost of Donnie appears to the Dude (after he's had a few white russians and smoked a bit) and helps him along as well!  I actually have a script/story of it on a hard-drive somewhere. I still intend to make it someday!

Haha you actually hit the nail RIGHT on the head!  I had, loosely, written a scene where a room was actually falling apart and the puzzle's solution was to use a rug to "tie the room together" to keep it from falling apart (I hadn't worked out the specifics on why the room was falling in half, but I was leaning towards an earthquake).  I had planned to use that phrase nowhere else in the game (and not even at that part) so it would be a silent "easter egg" for true fans!

I was going to go with:

>USE NAILS WITH WOODEN BOARD

You nail the wooden board to the floor.

>USE CHAIR WITH WOODEN BOARD AND DOOR

You wedge the chair between the wooden board and the door.

> OPEN DOOR

Se7en, the adventure game universe could use a good serial killer hunting game after so many, many, disappointments.

Die hard, one man against a whole bunch of thugs and more importantly; against all ods.

Any world war 2 game: would be brave and rewarding if someone gave it a try to make a good game about ww2. As a resistance member, someone looking for his relatives or even as a german soldier or ss officer... most adventurge games dealing with world war 2 only have some nazi's in them (indiana) but in the heart of war would be something.
I say start with movies such as Blackbook about the resistance, why not.

The Simpsons by the way, talking about a good cast with tons of possibilities for cool games.

I really think The Simpsons was scraping the bottom of the barrel a good while before they made the movie. Futurama on the other hand...

vicky, christina, barcelona LOL - that is, if you want to play something meaningless and a waste of time...

seriously, though, inception might not make a bad game, as well as minority report and the rome apartment
i think one i'd like to see is the adjustment bureau, i think it might make a nice quest kind of thing, especially if they put more action into the whole door/corridor thingy..

Heh. Reminds me of that time I was thinking of making a CUBE vs. Predator game for the "one room, one month" MAGS. But then I answered Baron's call to arms and we made Snakes of Avalon instead.

Actually, we considered that idea for a day or two, but Baron kept insisting Cube is too obscure a movie, and Canadian to boot. ;)
