@ Progzy: because I suck at pixel art. Either that, or it's some kind of Freudian/Jungian thing where I see special agent Dana Scully as being somewhat of a mother figure and looming precariously over my id (Mulder) and EGO (Roger). :P

Some good ideas for adventure games I'd like to see:

Futurama
Simpsons
SouthPark
Evil Dead/Army of Darkness
Doctor Who

There was a Futurama Fan game being made that was cancelled. South Park was also made by AGS a few years back. Doctor who is currently in Development by someone in the Games in progress forum.

And for simpsons, thats my department. Check out the HUGE simpsons game template here(4 megabytes): http://www.energonplant.com/SimpsonTemp.zip
It has 43 rooms, most of which already have the walkable area's and walkbehind done and the scaling done. Most of them can also be linked together. It has like 11 characters or something like that and several sprites and each character has their own gui as well as some other crucial GUI's needed. The gui's are already programmed in. This may work on the latest version of AGS, but please remember it was compiled with earlier versions.

and A demo of Where's Maggie: http://energon-plant.com/OLD_ENERGON/SimpWM.rar
(This one is around 3 megabytes and was actually updated this month. Also, keep hitting the "F" KEYS to get around. EG: F1 F5 F7 etc...)

The problem with these adaptations (which aren't "new genres", obviously - it's a strategy/rpg/FPS/adventure game adaptation of a film. Is the novelization of a film a distinct literary genre? Is the book-film adaptation a distinct cinematic genre?) is that they rely too much on the fame of their source of choice. Their selling point is the Lost/Futurama/Batman/WHATEVER name, and it usually masks poor gameplay. They usually focus on one or two aspects that made the film (or whatever) popular and then forget even how to tie it into a coherent narrative or a pleasant gaming experience. Games like The Dark Eye or Philip Marlowe Private Eye or Discworld have shown people what to do. People still haven't learned.

no death sequences, no walking deads, no timers...

...You can still have all these things. Most people don't like walking deads because they can get a bit annoying and gradually sap the enjoyment value of the game. But actual death is still widely done. Same with timers. You could do walking deads too, if you wanted.

Pardon my stupidity but what is a walking dead?  ???

why do you love licensed products so much?
wouldn't it be better if it had ELEMENTS of those shows, but with your own original sort of storyline?

How about you just go make a game... Stop posting so much and do something with all your energy. Constantly posting lists of shows or movies that you'd like to see be made into a game has gotten old.

Well, a cool new genre idea would be film games. I think potentially cool movie games would be potential point-'n'-click games. We've already seen Saw turned into a game, why stop there? What about classic films like Whatever Happened To Baby Jane?? I think, put in the right contexts, these games could make one hell of a great genre. :)

yeah some seriously phenomenal ideas there.
