Telltale's Jurassic Park goes "Heavy Raining"

It seems like Game Informer have had a chat with the game's executive director Kevin Boyle. And he reveals that the game will be inspired by last years Heavy Rain.

Due to the great praise Heavy Rain received for the gameplay, it will be exiting to see how Telltale will develop the new game. I think the more open non-linear style would fit good together with adventure gameplay, at least for this title.

It alsy says the game will be a sequel to the first film, and the beginning "will take place during the film, but from a different viewpoint."

This is exciting news! I can't wait to see how Telltale tackles this concept :)

Thanks for sharing!

I first found this news at a norwegian internet page, that also included some quotes from mr. Boyle not found in the english internet. here they are quickly google translated:

- To make something that pays off both in the quieter character-building parts, as well as intense moments that you expect from "Jurassic Park", is a new direction for Telltale.

- Story and characters are a very important ingredient. You're going to feel the drama. You'll feel the excitement. You'll get different feelings. There is humor in the lighter moments - time to get to know and love the characters. And of course the spectacular island, and then break everything down to the moments of terror.

- Even though our game is more linear than "Heavy Rain ", the player's actions affect the way the story unfolds. The choices the player does affects the detail of the story so you will know that we are watching the choices all the time.

I hope they are not going in the direction of entirely getting rid of puzzles. Not for the sake of JP, but of future Telltale games.

That said, one of the main problems with Back to the Future is it's similarity to the basic Telltale game mould. A change would be healthy, and I think required, actually.

JP sim/strategy games rule. JP adventures? Meh. I'm excited to see what they may do, but personally it'll be hard to beat the fun I've had with Operation Genesis. IMHO, JP as a point and click is a very odd choice for TellTale. What completely unrelated to the JP world of characters character will we play in this sequel prequel episodic re-branding? Will it be just a PR scam for JP 5? Most JP games (to me) just don't cut it, I'm hoping they'll prove me wrong - but meh. Will Spielberg be involved? They sure as hell won't have a Pete Postlethwaite cameo. Will Ellie be remarried? Will Lex have some life threatening disease by which the end of the series all the Hammond's are dead? Will John Williams do the soundtrack? I just hope TellTale don't make something that fans like us could've done better. Good on them for trying but really, no original titles and re-hashes of all old franchises? They're becoming a bit like the guy at the bar I just want to avoid. If it's heavy rain style, I can only image it'll be pretty pants.  :-\ Maybe they have been asked to make the official JP5..

Is JP actually still hot at this point? I thought it got old pants long ago.

Damn, I could have put that one in Snakes!

I don't know about this game. There doesn't seem to be that much to find about it yet. No screens or anything.

If I were to play a Jurassic Park game I would have it be more like JP: Tresspasser. Only working properly and looking good.

Totally agree. If it turns out to be a game without puzzles, I'll have to think twice before buying it.

A new Trespasser-styled game is ok, but at this point I expect better from Telltale. Hopefully they will make a game close to the original story, and without directions that doesn't make sense comparing to the rest of the movies.

I'm fairly exited about what they can cook up, but we'll have to wait and see..

m0ds

That's it. Definitely worth waiting and seeing. I had reservations about BTTF but they seem to have been proved wrong. Well, that is - pre-February free copyness.

Scavenger

A Jurassic Park adventure game?!

This can only mean one thing:

"They show extraordinary intelligence, even problem-solving. Especially the big one. We bred eight originally, but when she came in she took over the pride and killed all but two of the others. That one... when she looks at you, you can tell she's working things out."

I can't wait to play as the velociraptor!

Igor Hardy

Or, going by the same quote, you could play as a man testing a velociraptor's intelligence and teaching it how to solve adventure game like puzzles.

Game Informer have now released the exlusive first look, and you can check it out here. This time with screenshots.

Whrn I first heard about this game,  I thought it was gonna be a horrible mess. Reading these articles actually get me excited about it!
Thanks for the link Gudforby :)

It looks like a terrible linear button masher game. It doesn't look like there is an alternate path. It's just what they want you to do, and if you don't press the right buttons at the right time you die.  :-\

Dragon's Lair with Dinosaurs, and in 3D?  :=

Oh yes, because walking around and exploring is so boring...I know, let's just have you warp to every location and then button mash your way through.  Way to trash a franchise, Telltale, but then Back to the Future is its own brand of lemon, too.
