I hadn't seen that anyone posted this but the email went around work and I thought it was quite interesting:

It's interesting reading the descriptions of the characters, especially the Glottis one. Seems there's a puzzle in there that was scrapped about turning a fan on for Glottis... Oh adventure games.

Fantastic! I, for one, will be reading the frig out of this. Thanks for sharing!

Wow, what a special download :) Thanks for sharing the news, eric!

Adamski

I was going to post this earlier, but got too involved in actually reading it! Much more awesome than the design docs I usually get to see :P

TheJBurger

Haven't had time to read through the whole thing, but there are some hilarious gems in there.

This post: http://www.doublefine.com/news.php/site/comments/ive_been_saving_this_cake_for_ten_years/, also from his blog, is an interesting read for Grim fans.

Hey, I like the idea of using block diagrams for puzzles. I have to do this for my game because I was already wondering how to get a good overview there.

Eggie

The thing I like best about this design document is the jokes.
I bet game design documents these days aren't allowed to have jokes...

creatorlars

Yeah, really good read!  I like how it reads like a narrative, and yet it cohesively breaks down and organizes all the pertinent information relating to items, locations, characters, puzles, etc.

GarageGothic

Thanks for the link. This is very interesting reading indeed - especially seeing the flowcharts of puzzle structure was inspiring after following creatorlars' thread about mind maps

magintz

Oooh interesting! I have to say I can't believe it's been ten years, it feels like yesterday that I remember wetting my underwear in excitement over the demo.

*glances at the copy of Grim Fandango on my bookcase*

I think I know what I'll be doing tomorrow :)
When I was a little kid we had a sand box. It was a quicksand box. I was an only child... eventually.

I'm at the link, but I don't see anything, just the site's menu and a banner ad. Am I missing something?
Status: Trying to come up with some ideas...

magintz

Hmm, that's weird does the same for me now. Perhaps they have taken it down? I checked it last night but only posted my response today so I don't know when that would have happened :(

Same for me.... Well, for those still looking for it:

[Edit]: Dang, I was gonna try and upload it, but my comp won't let me. Stupid video converting software. I'll try again ASAP.

Maybe Tim wasn't actually allowed to release this so he deleted the news post?
Weird...

Who knows? Al Lowe has some files on his page, so does Christy Marx (she even has whole games).

There's a mirrored version here, for anyone who didn't grab a copy. Couldn't find anything about why the original was removed though, so lets innocently assume we're still allowed to read it.

At least I will read it, once I get around to actually playing Grim Fandango...

Removed at LucasArts' request, apparently - the reason why I'm not hosting it on my site and you're unlikely to see it on any of the other major LucasArts fan sites either.
