Hello,

First of all, hello everyone. I hope this is the right place to ask for technical help. If not, please direct me to the correct sub forums, thank you.

I have this persistent problem with AGS editor. I start a new default game, it creates the game and I can even run it once. After running it once, everything seems to working just fine, I can even make adjustments in the menus, edit rooms etc. The problem appears whenever I try to test run the game again.  I get an error message saying:

"The game engine does not appear to have shut down properly. If the problem persists, post the problem on the Tech forum"

I click "OK" (the only option) and right after that, the following error message box appears:

(First lines translated: Process cannot use the file because the file is currently being used by another process)

Notice, that this happens even if I don't mess with the settings. Anyone know what's going on here? I've tried running as administrator, tried Win 8 compatibility mode, still get the same error. I'm running a HP laptop, with Windows 8. ATI GPU, desktop resolution 1600x900

Hmm, can you open the Windows Task Manager and check if your game's process is really still running after you quit the game first time?

I do not have much experience with Win8, but here I found a brief guide to Task Manager: http://www.howtogeek.com/108742/how-to-use-the-new-task-manager-in-windows-8/

If it is actually running, try ending it from Task Manager's context menu; if this works it could be used as a workaround until we find the main problem.

As far as I know, Regonzo is using windows 10, not windows 8. ;)
Ctrl + Alt + Del, then task manager should open the task manager on windows 10.
I have no issues with AGS on windows 10 64 bit. It may be, yet again, a problem due to file right management.
Regonzo, where is AGS installed? In which directory is the game project folder?

I get this one randomly and rarely in windows 8.1. I just click OK and can carry on as normal no problems. I think I've only got it when windows is still starting up and I'm just being impatient to test a game.

Dropbox is also still initialising and I run AGS as well as my projects out of the dropbox folder. Not sure if that's related or not.

You using file syncing of any kind?

Regonzo

Crimson Wizard: Yes I can access task manager. It does not show anything after I close the run game test window. Good thinking tho, I thought It would help, but unfortunately that is not the case here.

Billbis: I am running Windows 8.1 64bit to be accurate. Could this be the problem? If my AGS version for 32 bit machines? AGS is installed on C:\Program files(86x)\Adventure Game Studio 3.3.4

Retro Wolf: No I am not using any file syncing, other than Google Drive. But that should not affect AGS in any way.. right?

I've tried running AGS with different resolution, but no dice. Next up, i am trying to install an older version of AGS

You working straight out of Google drive? I've noticed when running AGS, Dropbox is constantly trying to sync a file but it can't because the editor has locked it.
